The New Relatives

June 20th, 2011 @ 12:35 pm by Mrs. High Wire

The new family I am marrying into are some of my most favorite people in the world. I feel like I’ve known them my whole life and already feel like we are family. It bugs me that I had to wait 20 years of my life to meet them!

The first time we met - Fall 2007 at the University of North Texas (Go Eagles!)

Mr. High Wire grew up on a patch of land over 100 acres large in West Texas.

His upbringing was pretty different from from mine! He grew up in a much smaller town with a much closer knit community.

But it turns out that how we were raised isn’t really that different at all. We both come from loving, nurturing families, dads who owned their own businesses, and wonderful, caring mothers.

Over the course of our relationship, our families have grown close to one another, as we start new traditions together like our annual holiday party that we’ve hosted for the past two years.

We’ve traveled to Las Vegas and Cozumel together and had an absolute blast.

I feel so incredibly blessed to not only get to marry Mr. High Wire, but to finally be a real member of his fantastic family.

I’m lucky that the future in-laws are friendly people that I get along with well for the most part. Having families that get along is important.

Sadly, no im not. His family is just as dis functional as mine is. There are a few moments that they make me feel like a part of the family and I love those moments but the next time I see them its right back to feeling alienated and not part of anything. But I love my FI so I put up with the family.

Appreciate what you have for all it’s worth. My fiance’s family is actively trying to break us up. They rejected their own families years ago for religious reasons and they’re doing it again. It’s made the engagement more of a dirge than a beautiful time. It’s a sad reality that some of us marry into a family that wishes we did not exist.

I love this post, HW!!! I too feel so extremely blessed to LOVE FI’s family. And that includes every single last cousin and aunt and uncle. I have a teeny tiny family, and FI has a HUGE family. It has been so amazing to experience having a large family, and they are seriously some of the most genuine, caring, fun, silly people I have ever met. And they have all made me feel like I was part of the fam since day 1. Not only that, but our families get along great with one another as well. I feel truly lucky and I as well cannot wait to make it official!! :)

This is so nice to read, especially since normally people have issues with in laws! I am lucky to have great future in laws too. The planning of the wedding has made our relationship bumpy a few times… But knowing that the wedding is just one day in a marriage and a family, I am reminded and am very blessed to have in laws who love and care about me and I them.

I feel the same way! I LOVE my in-laws! They are such wonderful caring people who have totally accepted me as their own daughter. I feel so blessed to have them all part of my life now. (And the hardest part for me was learnign to accept my MIL - I am so very close with my own mother, I had a hard time adjusting to how different my mom and my MIL both were. But after one bonding weekend with MIL, things just clicked!)

Yes, I get along great with his whole family. They accepted me well before we got married, and I couldn’t have asked for a better family to marry into.

Aww, that’s great to hear! I’m a big fan of Mr. Cannon’s family. They’re always really sweet and we lived with them for a month when we came back to Ohio and were still looking for a place. They always make me feel at home, and are definitely family even though we aren’t married yet.
