Mrs. Macarons, Tampa Age and Occupation: 26, Graphic Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Renaissance Man Engagement Date: September 12, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Lange Farm About Me: I'm creative at heart and a graphic designer with an unhealthy obsession with type. I love roller coasters, spicy foods, and a good glass of Crianza. We’re planning a soft and lovely vintage-meets-modern wedding in a state that’s known for its beaches, glitz and glam. I have a ton of DIY projects and lots of little details I’m dying to share and can't wait to celebrate with our closest friends and family.
About Mrs. Macarons

I’m one of the lucky ones who’s able to lucid dream. As a child, I was able to defeat monsters and escape burning buildings with my family and pets. If something seemed preposterous, I’d simply change it.

Like others, I’ve had a few stressful wedding dreams in the past, but I was able to avert a crisis every single time. MOH Sassy started having them quite frequently once she was two months out. I figured our two-year engagement allowed me to be way ahead of the game and keep me relatively stress free.

Well, hive, this generally calm and collected bee just had the WORST wedding nightmare ever. The kind that you wake from in a hot and sweaty mess; where there’s no chance in hell you’re going to fall back asleep even though it’s 7 AM on a Saturday. Just about everything went wrong, and there wasn’t a single thing I could do about it.

Want to know the horrific details?

  1. All of our guests showed up late. We’re talking three hours late. As a result, our ceremony took place in the dark.
  2. No one wanted to toss our foofers, so I cried while walking down the aisle.
  3. The coordinator forgot to put out our candles, favors, striped straws, and drink stirrers, so while everyone was enjoying happy hour outside, Sassy and I were scurrying around trying to find where everything was stashed.
  4. Foodie X was there instead of our caterer. I bet you can guess what was served.
  5. We never had our cake cutting—the staff carted the cake off without telling us and served it up to our guests, including the top tier.
  6. Our DJ played our first dance song while Macs was exchanging words with Foodie X and while I was crying in the restroom.

The OCD planner in me wants everything to be perfect, even though I know it’s unrealistic. Maybe this dream was my brain’s way of telling me to relax a bit and to have faith in my vendors.

At what point did you start having wedding nightmares?

Mine was in real life: our officiant was 45 minutes late. No nightmare I had was that bad.

I had my first nightmare right after I bought my dress–oddly enough the dream had nothing to do with the dress. I just recently had my worst one–like you said, I woke up in a cold sweat and couldn’t get back to sleep. Everything went wrong–too much to explain in entirety, but I’ll leave you with this: It involved shiny, purple leather boots and Egg McMuffins.

I had my first one early, and I’ve continued to have them off and on throughout the process. Last night I dreamed that we forgot the rings at the altar and that everyone was comparing our wedding to unfavorably that of my friend’s.

Listen, I’ve been having wedding nightmares since before I was even engaged! I am notorious for having super stressful dreams in which I am freaking out but everyone else seems to think things are normal! The one I’ve been having the most lately is where I never get around to setting up final meetings with our vendors, and the wedding day comes and no one knows any details of what I wanted–our photographer doesn’t take the pictures I had in mind, we never got to tell our DJ the special songs to play, and the music for the ceremony is all wrong. I agree with you–I’m a bit of a control freak and the thing that keeps me up at night is that everything isn’t going to go exactly as planned!

I haven’t had a nightmare for a while now, but they started over a year out from the big day. My dreams usually calm down after I do something proactive in my waking hours.

I sincerely wish that nightmare never happens in real life… and that your actual wedding will be a wonderful dream come true!

Yikes! I would have woken up in a cold sweat if I had that nightmare. :( Thankfully it’s not real, and I’m sure the big day will be just dreamy!

Nightmares are to be expected; you’ve spent a long time (and lots of money) to make this day everything you want. It stands to reason that the little part of your brain that questions or worries will manifest itself in your sleep. As a wedding vendor myself, this is what I tell my brides: “Your day will not be perfect, but it will be perfect enough.”

I had one early on in my engagement (a fairly common one, I think - waking up/not being ready as the ceremony was starting) and haven’t had one since (knock on wood!).

I’m not close enough to the actual wedding to worry yet (epic-length engagement!), but I did have one dream right after I started doing some preliminary wedding spreadsheets and analyses (I’m a data control technician/nerd4life). I was taking organic chemistry evening classes after work, and stressing pretty hard about those, and one night I dreamed that I had to come up with a seating chart for my guests… who were all water molecules… in such a way as to avoid hydrogen bonding (hint: it’s impossible), because that would make it hard for anyone to dance or talk.
