Miss Sweet Cream's Picture
Miss Sweet Cream, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 26, Public Relations Account Manager Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Outside Sales Engagement Date: July 4, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church / Rosebank Winery About Me: Born in the ‘burbs of Philly, it took some time living in the Big Apple to realize that I’m a girl who likes her roots. That’s why the mister and I bought a 1950s house on a charming street not too far from our childhood stompin’ grounds. This could also be the reason why our hometown is the scene where we are planning our super sweet, totally charming, BBQ-for-supper wedding that I never knew I always wanted. I DIE over DIY projects and live for vintage, heartfelt inspiration. I obsess over all things mid-century (from forks to furniture). Love is… cartoons and flea markets, and I am known to whip up a mean banana cream pie. I met the Mr. in grade school and after that boy took me for a spin on the handle bars of his BMX, I knew that things would never be the same again. Besides lovin’ my Mr., I also love to plan, sew and create, and that’s just what I’m doing as I navigate through the details, creating a laid-back day that oozes charm; one that will go down in (at least our) history as the Best. Day. Of all time.
About Miss Sweet Cream

Fiction sometimes has a way of weaving into reality. Culturally speaking, the fake world of movies has kick-started major trends in the real world. A young Sweet Cream vaguely remembers what Flashdance did to the ’80s. After Alicia Silverstone jumped off that cliff with her navel pierced, she had girls everywhere running to get a pair of knee highs and holding up their fingers telling their parents, “Whatever!” after Clueless hit the big screen. And then there’s Sex and the City. I realize that the small-screen version was first (and better?), but starting trends? Inspiration? Need I say more?

I have always been a sucker for romance, fashion, and the gorgeous cinematic enjoyment of the silver screen. And while I wasn’t a girl who dreamed of her big day since she was a little girl, for one reason or another, before there was a ring on my finger, there were some big-screen brides who made my non-wedding-swooner self, well…swoon.

Probably the least glitzy bride known to the big screen, Braveheart’s Murron is a breathtaking one at that. When she and William get married in a secret ceremony with only one witness, I DIE. There she is in all her bridal beauty with nobody to enjoy it but her true love. And it is absolute perfection.

When Melanie Smooter comes down the aisle to marry the man who later became known as the hottest doctor on prime-time TV, I couldn’t believe my eyes. That veil! It was love at first sight! Again, I was not a girl to plan her wedding, but this high school senior knew she had to have one on her big day…

All of these dresses caught my eye during whatever romantic comedy I was watching with my female friends (I couldn’t drag Mr. Sweet Cream to see Bride Wars!) and made me want borrow them from the leading ladies on my wedding day. I especially loved the dress that Amanda Seyfried wore in MamaMia! Bees—do you know that this dress doesn’t even exist in the real world!? That breaks my bridal heart just a bit, I have to admit.

While nothing in our wedding so far is inspired by the big screen, some brides have movies serve as stunning inspiration. Big Fish, Marie Antoinette, and Eat, Pray, Love are spectacular examples of sources for beautiful scenes, props, costumes, and stories.

Sigh! All that gorgeous big-screen inspiration has me all weak in the knees.

Even though we didn’t go this way, I think that inspiration from beautiful cinematic settings is such an amazing place to start.

Did you see any bridal beauty in a flick that you flipped over? Is your dress inspiration taken from a certain motion picture? Are you having a wedding inspired by a movie that you just wish you could have been an extra in?

I actually bought the (cheaper) version of the Vera Wang dress Kate wears in Bride Wars! I absolutely love it.

Funny thing was, I had no idea until I purchased it and tried to look for more pictures of it online!

I can’t think of any specific examples of how movies have influence our wedding plans, but I LOVE watching them, so I’m sure some inspiration slipped in at some point. :)

Like Miss Pony, we didn’t have any real influence in our plans (that I can think of off the top of my head) but I love watching wedding movies!

after watching The Wedding Planner a couple hundred times, I decided I wouldn’t have Olivia Newton John as my first dance, haha!

That Big Fish board tugs at my heartstrings since that was our first date movie! No specific movie inspired elements here, either, but I do love watching wedding movies. :)

That Big Fish board is fantastic. I loved Anne Hathaway’s dress in Bride Wars - who knows, though, whether whatever I end up buying will bear any resemblance.

These boards are beautiful! I haven’t thought about channeling my favorite movies for inspiration. Great post!
