Mrs. Marmalade's Picture
Mrs. Marmalade, Norwalk, CT/Raleigh, NC Age and Occupation: 27, Administrative Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Army Officer Engagement Date: December 31, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2011 Venue: Old Cadet Chapel/Highlands Country Club About Me: I'm a Tri-State area "lady," through and through. A big chunk of my life has been split between NYC and Connecticut, and I'm finally heading down south to live with Mr. Marmalade. Our long distance relationship has been one adventure after the next, we've spent time in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia, thanks to his military career. Next to Mr. Marmalade, my loves include live music, useless trivia, shoes, design, and my crazy half-tiger kitty, Oliver. I have a passion for food and wine, and I've been known to travel long distances to get my hands on the best meals. I come from a tight-knit big fat Greek Ecuadorian family---we're loud, we talk with our hands, and we spend hours talking loudly with our hands over large meals. I'm going to miss them so much as I pack up and begin my life, far away from home. But with Mr. Marmalade by my side, I'm ready to take on whatever may come. Next up: our wedding!
About Mrs. Marmalade

Bit by bit, piece by piece, I’ve started collecting items for our decor. This is a little tricky since I only have a loose idea of what I want everything to look like in the end. But I can’t help myself. I am slowly turning into a bridal hoarder.

Bridal Hoarding---It's Real, Look It Up* : wedding decor raleigh Dscn225 DSCN225

The hope is that I will not have to worry about finding these sweet little details at the last minute. And there’s nothing more eclectic then buying items from here and there as time passes, since that’s pretty much what “eclectic” means. This has also saved me a ton of money, because since I started early I still have the ability to wait until things are on clearance—see that red sticker on the frame up there? Clearance tag! I think that frame was marked down to four dollars. Score! That lantern right there? I bought it for less than eight dollars, after I found an imperfection. The plate? Three dollars, also from the clearance section.

Of course this will be a complete waste if I don’t end up using any of it. But I’m optimistic. My hoard includes a bunch of pretty frames, interesting pieces of milk glass, and couple ceramic vessels for flowers. I’m determined to make this work. I just need to settle on a design!

Have you considered collecting decor for your wedding in advance? Are you a bridal hoarder, like me? If so, I want to know about your favorite item!

*I have no idea if “bridal hoarding” is an acutal condition. And no, I haven’t looked it up.

I began hoarding as soon as we got engaged to save money and not wait til the last minute. I have just about everything almost anyway. I bought all my candle holders (like 300-400 of them) at a dollar store that was going out. I paid 7 cents for them. Now tell me that isnt a score!

I am a complete bridal hoarder! (I am sure that this IS in fact a real condition!!). My favorite is probably the vintage salt & pepper shakers I collected at flea markets that I plan to mix & match for each table. I wouldn’t pay more than 50 cents each… & now that is crossed off the list!

PS - What you have in your pics looks gorgeous! Can’t wait to see what else you are hoarding that will come together on the big day (it will! I know it will!)

Bridal hoarding is totally a real condition and I know I have it. I can’t stop buying milk glass even though I have no idea how I’m going to incorporate it into our wedding, oops.

I think every bride hoards things. I have glass vases and flowers all over my basement. LOL

Haha, I’m the opposite of a bridal hoarder. I’m afraid to buy anything! It’s going to bite me in the ass later, I’m sure ;)

I love that frame! I’ve been hunting too much instead of hoarding unfortunately because I’m too picky! Where have you been getting your frames?

I’m totally a bridal hoarder! I’ve been collecting antique bells (I’m marrying a Bell) and hankies since we got engaged. I’m ready to start on antique frames for the table numbers soon. Glad to know I’m not alone!

I’m TOTALLY guilty of this. I have about 120 glass bottles, jars, and glasses in our garage right now. I can only see us using about half of then. Yet, I still can’t stop. And @coasterkim, I really wish you hadn’t mentioned antique bells, since we’re using bells as our sendoff! Please God don’t let me start stalking antique bells now, too ;)

@s2bBradsWifey: @s2bBradsWifey:

$0.07?! That is awesome! I’m doing a lot of DIY projects too and we’ve been combing thrift stores and dollar stores. I made one of our favors - decorated matchboxes for sparklers - for $10.00 for 80 boxes (the other $2.00 went to special paper.) But yeah, I understand about bridal hording lol. You never know what you’re going to need or what will finish up the look so that it doesn’t look unfinished!

@Vonnegut1105 We’re doing bells as our sendoff too. I found an Etsy seller who makes real cute jingle bells on colored ribbon. On our tables we’ll have all kinds of old bells mixed in with the flowers. I have over 30 so far and didn’t pay over $5 for any of them. It’s so fun, I want to get more but FH thinks we have enough.

I’ve been saving vintage dessert size china dishes in the right colors. I had already been collecting milk glass for years. Now my head is spinning…frames, salt & pepper shakers, bells….thanks bees…lol! :)

I am totally a bridal hoarder. I bought the frames for my table numbers back in February and my mom had tucked all of my bridal purchases away in the closet of my childhood room. It has been a ton of fun tho right?

I’m totally a bridal hoarder! And I have no room in our tiny apartment for any of it. I’m too afraid of my mom’s questioning (”what are you going to use *this* for?”) to ask to store it all somewhere else. Hopefully I’ll make use of everything! (Cute finds btw! I love that lantern!)

This made me laugh so hard! Story of my life!! I had so much stuff that I use it as a base to start a vintage rental company. I hoard so other brides don’t have to :)

@mrsbowieii: Yes, my basement and my living room are now hoard-central.
@coasterkim: antique bells?! Sounds perfect! (don’t mind me, I’m also apparently a pusher).
@Miss Sparkler: or you can borrow from my stash!
