About Mrs. Hyena

We Just Can’t Wait

June 21st, 2011 @ 11:53 am by Mrs. Hyena

We never intended to save the top tier of our wedding cake. We had decided if we wanted cake on our one-year anniversary, we would go back to the bakery and get a new cake. We didn’t think we had ordered THAT much cake, but somehow we wound up with the top tier of both the wedding cake AND the groom’s cake after the reception.

Well, we thought while snacking on the groom’s cake topper, we’ll freeze (what’s left of) them before our honeymoon and do the traditional thing and eat them on our anniversary. But in the days before the honeymoon, we couldn’t get those delicious cakes out of our heads. One year was too far away! We agreed instead to pick one for celebrating one month of marriage, and the second for six months.

Pardon the messy stovetop. We’re still unpacking and getting organized!

Yeahhh…we had both of those toppers devoured within a week of getting back from our honeymoon.

I promise it looked fancier at the wedding. Here it was smushed and at a weird angle, and half-eaten of course.

They were calling us! And now that they’re gone, Mr. Hyena and I keep asking each other, “So there’s more cake, right?”

Unfortunately no. But we are for sure going back to get our one-year anniversary cake!

Are you planning to save your top tier(s)? Or, if you’re already married, did you manage to save your cake for a whole year?

I just can’t imagine that the cake would taste as good a year in a freezer. I would much rather just buy a new cake, and eat what is left of the one from the wedding. (I have no self-control when it comes to cake).

I’m actually getting remarried so I can respond to this post! Okay, my ex and I did the one year thing and it was terrible! Cake does not last in the freezer for that long without becoming nasty. I am never doing that again lol. I’m insisting on a new cake for our 1 year!

Waffle keeps asking if we can eat our top tier every time he opens the freezer and I have a feeling I’m going to give pretty soon. :)

We did the one-month anniversary cake splurge and it was mighty delicious! We are going a whole new cake route for our one-year anniversary too.

No way could a cake survive in our freezer for a year. Maybe not even a week. I love me some cake!

Hehehe, I’ve got a feeling if we have any cake left after our wedding that it won’t last until our anniversary either ;) I don’t blame you, that cake looked soooo yummy!

We’ve decided not to save the top tier, we’ll be serving it. If there’s any left over, we’ll eat it pretty quickly I think!

My mom has the top tier of our cake at her house - if she didn’t I’m sure it would be long gone by now!

That was one of the things I loved our baker. She is giving us a replica of the top tier of our wedding cake on our 1st anniversary for FREE! She told us cake should taste good and look nice - not freezer burnt and smushed in the freezer. This woman speaks to my heart :)

We saved ours… two and a half weeks til we can have it! I wrapped it in ridiculous amounds of saran wrap and tinfoil, so hopefully it will be good. Orange cake with fresh raspberries… it was soo yummmy!

psh, I’m impressed you waited as long as you did. I probably would have destroyed the chocolate cake without Mr. SC’s presence, a la Monica and the wedding gifts in Friends :)

Cake wouldn’t last a year in our home, much less a week! We’re going to order a new cake from our baker to celebrate events. Like the fact that it’s Tuesday–that deserves cake, right? ;)

We need to go rescue our top tier from Mr. PaC’s dad’s house this week. Keep forgetting to grab it. Maybe we’ll save it for our 1 month by the time we get around to it. Mmmmm.

Ha, my mum packed the rest of our (tiny) cake in my suitcase and we had it the day after the wedding while waiting to catch our flight for our honeymoon :) I dont regret it one bit, and will probably remake a replica for our anniversary.

@Mrs. Cardigan: Good call! We didn’t think to do something like that. Oh well, no regrets!
@Trisha: That’s super nice of your baker! Yayyyy free cake! :)
@mak418: Ooh, that sounds delicious! Enjoy it!
@Miss Snow Cone: I love that you turned this into a Friends reference. :)
@Mrs. Tartlet: Tuesdays are definitely cake occasions! And Wednesdays. Don’t forget Mondays too. :)
@Mrs. Earrings: And we have a winner for shortest time the cake lasted! Haha!

haha that’s too funny! sounds like something i would do. it’s hard for me to know there’s something yummy just sitting there. WAY TOO tempting. i think saving the cake for the 1 year anniversary is an awesome idea though, so we may attempt it. it may end up being a total fail though!
