Mrs. Seal's Picture
Mrs. Seal, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 25, Personal Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Sales and Support Specialist Engagement Date: December 12, 2009 Wedding Date: November 2011 Venue: Sts Peter and Paul Church/The Bently Reserve About Me: I am a goofy, wannabe crafty, well-intentioned Renaissance Woman (OK, perhaps "aimless wanderer" is a more aptly suited term for me, but hopefully you get the point)—basically I dabble in just about everything and pride myself in such. Without warning, I occasionally breakout into soulful improvised songs and interpretive dances and there's just no stopping me! As so many others before me, planning our wedding has unearthed a deep, intense passion for all things bridal and I secretly fear the day it will come to an end. Mr. Seal and I are quite the pair and life with him by my side is extremely rewarding—I am so thankful to have found him. Together we are planning a black-tie San Francisco affair for 250—light on the stuffiness and with lots of extra Seal-y flair.
About Mrs. Seal

As I promised in my first shoe post, I am reporting back to you after now having tried on a couple of contenders.

Yesterday, my favorite UPS man dropped off this box:

Shoes it or Lose it: a Mail Order Misstep : wedding san francisco shoes Img 1492

Tucked away inside was…

Shoes it or Lose it: a Mail Order Misstep : wedding san francisco shoes Katespa katespa

Kate Spade’s lovely “Lora” shoes via Zappos

And…

Shoes it or Lose it: a Mail Order Misstep : wedding san francisco shoes Badgley badgley

Badgley Mischka’s “Dazzler” heels via Zappos

I was beyond excited (finally-some shoe excitement!) to officially begin the hunt for my perfect pair of heels. I first tried on the Kate Spade heels (and couldn’t help but think of Miss Candy Apple and her affinity for Kate Spade and pretty bows).

They’re pretty, but I was underwhelmed and uncomfortable (and it took like 15 pictures to get a shot that wasn’t completely unflattering). I don’t normally have width issues and all the reviews I read claimed this shoe fits true to size, yet somehow the shoes felt too small in every way. Sigh. I’ll admit it was a bit heartbreaking packaging these back up - I really wanted them to work!

I was not completely discouraged though - I still had that blingy pair of Badgley Mischkas to try out!

Meh.

They were definitely sparkly but, as brother Seal put it, “Too much foot and not enough shoe.” I was inclined to agree—they were super uncomfortable anyway. Plus they were a huge pain to buckle up—it took the combined efforts of Mr. Seal and me about ten minutes to put on and another ten to take off!

So, back to the drawing board it is. Hopefully the next time I check in with you on the shoe front I’ll come bearing good news (and cute shoes)! I think I might take the search offline next and head to the stores.

How’s your shoe hunt fairing?

I had width issues with that a very similiar kate spade shoe (I think it was exactly like yours, except the heel was 2″).

I ended up buying a pair of Stuart Weitzman shoes and love them!

I’ve purchased at least eight pairs from Zappos and Endless. Three have gone back, but I’m holding onto a few until my dress comes in since I don’t know what heel height will work with my dress (I’m tall to begin with.) I’ve actually got another pair I’m considered… I think I have a problem!

Aw, thanks for the shout-out, Seal! :) Love you.

You have fab taste in shoes! I loved that first picture of the BMs but I agree - they are a bit “too little shoe” for my taste. I hope you find something even more awesome!! I bet once you’re in stores and trying things on, things will go more smoothly. It’s so hard to gage fit and how things will look on when you’re just staring at a screen.

Even though they won’t work for the wedding, I think they’re still both great heels! I love your taste!

I bought, and returned at least 10 pairs of shoes- both online and Im stores. And then one day, I saw then- at a site I’ve looked at countless times. Ordered them there and then, and the minute I opened the book- I knew they were the ones! So have faith :)

Do you know what the most comfortable shoe I’ve tried on was… other than capparos… They totally remind me of you…

Oh my! My shoe hunt was Grrreeeat! My favortie color is blue (and so is my wedding) therefore, I knew I would be rockin’ a blue shoe. Zappos and Endless.com both had the same exact shoe, but Endless had it for 1/3 of the price ($60 on Zappos v/s $20 on Endless). Clearly I ordered from Endless! I even add some stones to the bottom to give it some sparkles! Love my shoes!

Sorry they didn’t work out, but I do love that bling around the ankle of the second pair. Hope the shoe search has some better results next time Seal!

You know, finding the right shoes was such a pain in my ass. I really really wanted the perfect navy shoe but couldn’t find it ANYWHERE. I ended up with simple ivory t-straps from Jcrew which served their purpose but haven’t been worn since :(. Good luck!!

Shoe shopping is supposed to be FUN, ugh, sorry you haven’t found your perfect pair yet. I have faith that you’ll find them. And if I lived closer I would totally go shoe shopping with you (I’m so benevolent, aren’t I?).

If you’re still looking for shoes you should try Hey Lady! https://www.shopheylady.com/shoes.php They’re super comfy and adorable! They even started doing fun colors! I’m wearing Twinkletoes for my wedding, had them picked out before I even found my dress. :)

People always talk about the stress of finding a dress, but I disagree - it’s the accessories for SURE! I got lucky and found the shoes I wanted pretty quickly, but I’m agonizing over jewelry right now. It never ends! :)

I saw THE SHOES in a DSW that I was pretty much running through at the time–I don’t even remember why I was in such a hurry, but I didn’t have time to stop and try them on. I kept meaning to go back, but I got so busy I didn’t have the chance.

Then… I was browsing Amazon, and I saw THE SHOES. I don’t know for certain that they’re the same shoes (although I secretly believe that they are), but they’re a relatively unsual style. I’m getting married outdoors in the woods, and I wanted something that was light-colored, real leather (much easier to keep nice than synthetics), close-toed, and had a heel of 3 inches or less. (I’m 5′6″, my man is 5′9″.) When I saw THE SHOES, I knew immediately that they were it. They were champagne, and I wanted ivory, but I didn’t care. They have a graceful, classic line, and there are cut-outs that are perfectly in keeping with the dress I’ll be wearing. (Which I haven’t seen in person yet. It’s in the family, which means that right now my sister has it in a box in Florida.) They’re Clarks–I can’t remember the name, but oh, I love them. I sat down last week and lovingly leather-lotioned them, and I love them even more now. I won’t wear them around before the wedding, but I could definitely wear them after.

@kristophine: Found them! http://www.amazon.com/indigo-Clarks-Womens-Sateen-Champagne/dp/B003V979LA/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I15SZU8DFK873E&colid=28NI3SGB4EADA

So comfy, so pretty. I agonized over them before I bought them, but I’m so glad I did.

Your shoes have to be comfortable! Nothing worse than hobbling around your reception miserable with a boo-boo face. Fingers crossed you find something sexy, flattering and comfortable! (stinks that those cute shoes didn’t work out!)
