About Mrs. Waffle

I would like to start things off by saying…

MAUI IS AWESOOOOOOOOOOOME!!!

Also, I would like to say thank you to every bee who sent me PMs and left me info on Maui. It was so helpful!

Now, I would like to pass on some helpful information to you.

GET THIS BOOK!

Wafflemoon: Some Tips for Getting Mauied : wedding austin honeymoon 111 11

Maui Revealed is written by someone who has lived here and done it all. This book has info on where to eat, the best things to see and which companies are worth your money for excursions, etc. We even used this book on the road to Hana instead of buying a $20 CD! It lived in our Jeep all week long and was our best companion!

Budget, research and bring lots o’ cash, cause Maui ain’t cheap!

We ended up staying in a highly rated, privately owned condo building which was cheaper than any of the hotels and resorts, the closest residence to the beach and had FREE parking. It also had a full kitchen that was stocked with all the essential tools so that we could cook our own meals and there was a supermarket one block away. You can see here that I’m having a shandy and a sammie on our balcony. We had many beautiful, private, sunset dinners on our balcony and that helped us save A LOT OF MONIES! Basically, do your research in advance so you can get the most bang for your buck! Some of our favorite experiences in Maui were the ones that were free or cheap and off the beaten path.

Splurge and upgrade your car rental to the Jeep!

Not only was it fun to ride around in, but it proved to be really helpful for some of the roads and parking lots we experienced. Plus, it’ll make your new husband grin from ear to ear and it’ll be one of the first things he tells people when you are asked, “How was your honeymoon?”

Sunscreen, sunscreen, SUNSCREEN!

Wafflemoon: Some Tips for Getting Mauied : wedding austin honeymoon 44 44

Take a small break to reapply…OFTEN! There are several factors that will conspire against you to make Maui one of the easiest places to burn…latitude, density of atmosphere, water and too many Mai Tais. I got this nasty burn on our 2nd day because I didn’t want to interrupt our fun to reapply. Silly me. I was very diligent for the rest of our trip and turned a nice golden brown instead of being a crispy, burnt Waffle.

Get off the beach and bring a hoodie and pants. I know this sounds insane considering you’re in MAUI, but we went on some amazing hikes and adventures that were in the hills and up the mountains where it can get pretty chilly and windy. Maui is composed of several microclimates. There were times I felt I had experienced 3 different countries in one day considering how much the landscape, vegetation and weather changed. Had I known this I would have packed at least one hoodie/sweatshirt and a pair of pants so we didn’t have to cut our plans short because I was freezing.

Have you been to Hawaii? Got any other tidbits you’d like to share?

Maui Revealed is KEY. You NEED this book. It’s amazing. You’ll see a bunch of other in-the-know people have it too, but you will make friends with them and talk about how awesome that book is!!

We actually have the Revealed book for three of the islands, and it is by far the best. I wouldn’t go to any of the Hawaiian islands without it!!!

We miss Maui. We got married there approximately 3 months ago, on Makena beach house days after the tsunami. It was absolutely great! We stayed at Westin Maui Resort and Spa, booked the cheaper room and was upgraded to the suite, no extra charge when we informed them we were getting married. Also received free breakfast and breakfast was $30 per person. Also if you sign up for free SPG card, you can get alot of discounts and points for your next vacation any where in the world (see website). For instance, weeks after we arrived home, we received an email for 6 days, 5 nights stay at their new Westin Condo for $798. Lastly, in Maui you can find cheaper souveniers at the local Walmart and Old Lahaina by the Banyan Tree. Hope this helps.
