Dressing the Ladies—Part 2

June 23rd, 2011 @ 5:13 pm by Mrs. Cannon

I was half excited and half dreading the next incarnation of the bridesmaids’-dress-shopping trip: excitement about spending time with my ladies and dread over dealing with sales associates. I didn’t really get into it in my first dress post and I don’t want to get into it now, but let’s just say I wasn’t too pleased with some of the service we received the first time out. Since I knew we’d be hitting the same places, I was a bit concerned.

Machine Gun, Rifle, and Shotgun met up at my house around noon. (Everyone was late, but I kind of expected it. I know my ladies!) Cherry Bomb and Mr. Cannon went to Mr. Cannon’s parents’ house for a BBQ, leaving me to a girls’ day out. First, the ladies and I went to the same locally owned bridal shop I went to with Pistol the week before. Once again, it wasn’t too impressive. All the dresses were in the same size (coincidentally, a size that none of my girls wore), and it was difficult to navigate the tiny closet all the short bridesmaids’ dresses were crammed into. We left after a few lackluster attempts at trying things on.

Next, we went to David’s and had a really awesome experience. Everyone was in a silly mood and our consultant just let us do our own thing. It was a ton of fun. First, we wandered around and the girls all picked a bunch of dresses. Once they started trying them on, we reached some favorites relatively quickly. I ran back and forth getting different sizes and, before too long, we were ready to buy the dresses. I decided to buy them as a bridesmaid present, and everyone seemed pretty excited about that. (I told them it would probably mean crappy gifts at the wedding, but they said they preferred to get the dresses for free since they weren’t too enthusiastic about bridal-party gifts anyway.) Works for me if it works for them!

Sexy ladies

We got colors ironed out and then went out to lunch and had a few beers before Machine Gun headed home. I must say that if you can do a group outing for bridesmaids’-dress shopping, I highly recommend it. We made some great memories getting everyone together, and I think it was helpful to have so many critical eyes around. We were able to come to a consensus pretty quickly, and if a whole group of women are agreeing you look great, you know it’s true!

I’m glad you had fun! I went to Davids Bridal too at seperate times with the girls, It was nice to have 1 on 1 time with ‘em. I, too, bought their dresses as ‘gifts’ since all of them have never been in a wedding before I knew they would be severly dissapointed if their presents were a bit lack-luster.
Also, the dresses we picked are like the green one, except in wisteria!

Yep, we did the group trip as well, and it was great! Afterwards, I invited everyone over to my place for wine and appetizers. It was a nice way for the girls to all get to know each other!

We didn’t look at David’s Bridal but I really like the green dress, the top looks a lot like my gown!

I almost wish I would have. But with me being in SC, 3 of my BM’s being in NJ, one in NC, and one out of the country for school - it was more than likely never going to happen. On top of that, my MOH and one BM went one day and ended up finding dresses we liked (our original beach trip got rained out). We ended up having a great experience at David’s Bridal also, just because we were left on our own and just had fun looking and trying things on!
