Mrs. Cannon's Picture
Mrs. Cannon, Toledo, OH Age and Occupation: 27, Financial Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Assembler Engagement Date: February 28, 2011 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Epworth UMC & Ward Pavilion About Me: I'm the curious combination of being a go-with-the-flow, laid back, obsessive planner. I try desperately to stay as busy as possible at all times (and am succeeding big time right now!) My biggest loves in life are Law & Order: SVU, Community (the show, not the concept, although I like that, too), ice cream, white cheddar popcorn, beer, hiking, knitting, decorating, writing, being outside, spending time with friends and family and musical theater. Mr. Cannon is pretty sweet, too. We've had a lot of fun traveling and having adventures all over the country, but have finally moved back near our hometown to settle down. We're planning a low-key, colorful, fun wedding and an awesome-to-the-max reception.
About Mrs. Cannon

When I set up my bridesmaids’-dress meeting, I figured we’d all go together and get dresses knocked out. But the weekend I had set aside for it didn’t work for my sisters, so Bombshell, Pistol, my mom, and I all ended up going the week before I planned on going with everyone else. Bombshell requested we check out a dress shop near my parents’ house, so I drove out there to check it out.

The shop was small but not crowded. All the bridesmaids’ dresses were in the back of the store. Bombshell started digging through dresses and trying on various styles. “What’s that?” you say. “Trying on all kinds of styles?” Yes, my friend—although I haven’t discussed it yet, I decided to let each girl pick whatever dress she wanted as long as it was short and the correct color. Each girl has their own color to fit in with the rainbow theme. Bombshell is green, Pistol is orange, Rifle is yellow, Shotgun is purple, and Machine Gun is blue. So, I was mostly there to approve the color and tell everyone they looked fabulous.

Anyway, Bombshell dug through dresses and Pistol, Ma, and I talked. Pistol didn’t do a lot of looking at this store because they didn’t have much to try on in her size. We had already planned to go a couple other places, so we weren’t too worried about it. Bombshell tried on all kinds of things. Some looked good, some not so much. Just for kicks, my mom picked out a dress the shade of green that I liked for her to try on so we could see how the color looked on her. Honestly, none of us was all that impressed with it on the hanger. But when she came out of the dressing room in it, we were all blown away. It looked great! My mom made Pistol go out to the car to get heels for her to try with it. Even better!

And, since the dress she tried on was in her size and the right color and fit perfectly, she bought it and took it home right then and there. She wants to sew in some spaghetti straps, but I already mentioned she’s an awesome seamstress, so we’re not worried about that. So, one down, four to go (five including Cherry Bomb).

This picture does not do it justice. It looks killer in person (and hopefully will when a pro photographer captures it).

With such success, we were hoping Pistol would be just as easy. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. We went to David’s Bridal and had a sort of irritating attendant, so she didn’t try much on. What she tried on looked good, but not amazing.

Meh

We also went to a locally owned bridal shop, but all their samples were way too big and we were not digging anything. We finally went to the mall to see if anything jumped out, but orange is a tough color to find at the mall. (Well, we did find this dress that I got Pistol to try on for a laugh. We got quite a few laughs when she accidentally got locked out of her dressing room and had to wear it for fifteen minutes while we found someone to unlock it!)

So we ended the day with no dress for Pistol, since we were all pretty sick of looking by that point. We still had plenty of time and figured we’d give it another shot another day.

Did you have a tough time dressing any of your girls?

OK first, I love the rainbow look for bridesmaids. My very very favorite pictures involve girls in different colors, patterns, etc. So good choice!

Yeah, we had a little bit of a kink, simply because I think my girls were (and still are maybe) a little uncomfortable with being able to choose their stuff. We have same color, same fabric, same length, same designer for the dresses, but I let them choose their style. They can choose their shoes in any color as long as they’re pink, yellow or gray (or silver). And they can choose their own jewelry.

I end up getting lots of emails with pictures of things seeking my approval - but I say yes to all of them! They have great taste. I trust them.

The “green dress!” We tried that one on, too, and two of the girls ended up with that style. Our sample was green, so we kept referring to it as “the green dress.” It’s a good one!

I thought this part was difficult. It was hard to make firm decisions but still keep everyone, including me, happy with the outcome. Alfred Angelo dresses are pretty and the green dress especially is wearable again, I think, so it worked out.

Ohhhh, the rainbow is going to look fantastic! Orange is a tough color to find, though. :( Looking forward to reading about the hunt, continued!

I have a friend who was a bridesmaid in a rainbow BP and the photos were amazing, so I think this is a great choice for your ladies!

ok i can’t wait to see how your wedding turns out! i LOVE the idea of rainbow dresses for the bridemaids, i just wouldn’t know what to do with myself when it came to decorating the venue with a rainbow color scheme! and i don’t think that orange dress is half bad! lol.

yeah i’ve heard random stuff about david’s bridal, so i was planning on refusing to go there for anything. but my MOH said they were having a sale on BM (lol) dresses and i wanted to be fair to my BMs’ wallets so we gave it a shot. needless to say we found THE dresses and in a completely different color than i had originally planned. my only issue now is making sure every BM (hahahaha…sorry) gets it before they apparently get discontinued. because apparently David’s Bridal will only give you a 1 week notice. ridic. and that’s to say if you completely trust that they contact you like they’re supposed to.

p.s. i bet if you were to head to Clemson, SC you’d have NO issues whatsoever finding an orange dress!
