Mrs. Pretzel, Seattle Age and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing Engineer Engagement Date: September 2, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown Studios About Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married. Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.
About Mrs. Pretzel

We had no plans to do a bouquet or garter toss. At 32 yrs old I was the last of my friends to get married. There was only a small handful of unwed women at our wedding and I figured it was just easier to skip this tradition.

My family had other ideas. Meet my cousin M and his girlfriend A. Aren’t they absolutely adorable? Soon after dinner was served my cousin M approached me to inquire when the bouquet toss would be. He wanted to make sure that his girlfriend caught the bouquet. I told him that we weren’t doing a toss but this information didn’t compute. Not doing a toss? Unbelievable.

M wasn’t the only one inquiring. His step dad (pictured above) also pulled me aside to ask the same question, as did his mom. I started to get the hint. I let him know I would rig a bouquet toss just for him and A. I was off to find a bridesmaid willing to part with her bouquet and to tell all the single women (there weren’t many) that we were doing a toss but to let the red-head catch the bouquet.

I love how obvious the other girls are about not catching the bouquet.

Mission accomplished!

My cousin was very grateful. As far as I know he hasn’t popped the question yet. Come on cuz, what’s the hold up?

Did you “rig” your bouquet toss?

Aw, that’s so cute that he was so concerned about it! And very sweet that you rigged something up for them :)

I tried to rig mine, but the girl that I wanted to catch it was actually in the bathroom at the time the toss was done :-(

Kinda…. we had joked about my mom catching it for weeks and sure enough come toss time she straight up tossed OFF her heals and went for it! She was serious…. And she got it! lol

I’m rigging mine! I was also against a bouquet toss, I don’t have very many single girlfriends who will be at the wedding…but about 16 years ago I caught the bouquet at my aunt’s wedding when I was just a kid. Everyone thought it was rigged but it wasn’t. So i thought it might be nice to ACTUALLY rig it so her daughter (and my junior bridesmaid) could catch it! I kind of just want to toss it to her for the sake of it, and not get everyone else called up…I just don’t know how well it will work out yet

Nice photos — as a wedding photographer, I know firsthand capturing the bouquet toss is one of the hardest things to do. Very cool series!

My Fiance’s SIL tried to rig hers so that his sister would catch the bouquet. I was right behind her and wasn’t even trying to catch the darn thing when it literally fell into my hands. I just opened my hands and there it was…

haha - I was the subject of a rigged bouquet toss at my MOH’s wedding (but it worked, as FI proposed about a month later!) - I have been planning to rig mine for my cousin, but she JUST got engaged this weekend! no toss for me now…
