Mrs. Cannon's Picture
Mrs. Cannon, Toledo, OH Age and Occupation: 27, Financial Analyst Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Assembler Engagement Date: February 28, 2011 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Epworth UMC & Ward Pavilion About Me: I'm the curious combination of being a go-with-the-flow, laid back, obsessive planner. I try desperately to stay as busy as possible at all times (and am succeeding big time right now!) My biggest loves in life are Law & Order: SVU, Community (the show, not the concept, although I like that, too), ice cream, white cheddar popcorn, beer, hiking, knitting, decorating, writing, being outside, spending time with friends and family and musical theater. Mr. Cannon is pretty sweet, too. We've had a lot of fun traveling and having adventures all over the country, but have finally moved back near our hometown to settle down. We're planning a low-key, colorful, fun wedding and an awesome-to-the-max reception.

Taking Engagement Pictures

June 25th, 2011 @ 1:35 pm by Mrs. Cannon

I normally love being the center of attention and enjoy getting my picture taken. But I have to admit I was feeling a bit awkward about engagement pictures. Don’t get me wrong, I was super excited that Mr. Cannon and I were going to get some pictures of us together. Ever since Cherry Bomb was born, we haven’t gotten many pictures of us. She is our favorite photographic subject, and pictures of the little lady have outweighed the pictures of us by a ton.

And honestly, most of the pictures of us prior to Cherry Bomb’s arrival were drunk self-portraits where we cut off half our faces. So the idea of having nice pictures of us as a couple is very appealing.

But, I was feeling very self-conscious and a little silly about it. You have to admit that it seems a bit vain to pay a stranger to follow you around and take pictures for a couple of hours. However, the pros outweighed the cons, and Mr. Cannon and I set up our appointment for early June. We wanted to have enough time to get a book of our engagement pictures back from the photographer to use as our guestbook for the wedding. Our photographer, Abby, suggested doing pictures during the Old West End Festival. We figured we could get some good pictures downtown and some carnival-type pictures by the food booths. So we agreed to meet there one Saturday evening.

We started the evening with a beer at a bar downtown with our photographer. We talked a bit to get to know one another better, and found out we had a lot in common. Abby was very easygoing and we all got along well. After chatting and finishing our beers, it was time to wander around Toledo taking pictures. It was a bit odd, but also a lot of fun. Abby had a bunch of great ideas and she even played along with my not-so-great ideas. (I happen to think that the upside-down Spiderman kiss was very fun. I’m not sure it will produce very good pictures, but we had a good time making Mr. Cannon hang upside down.)

I’m really excited to see how they turn out. Hopefully we look awesome and in love. I changed my mind about my outfit a million times and ended up buying whole new outfits. Of course then I worried I wouldn’t look like me in new clothes. But whatever—it’s all done, and I’m sure I looked fine. I know Mr. Cannon looked great. He bought a new shirt and he was looking pretty sexy. My biggest concern is how friggin’ hot it was that day. We were both sweating a ton, so I hope we don’t look completely disastrous. Argh, I just can’t wait to see the pictures!

How did you decide what to wear for your engagement pictures? Did you do your pictures anywhere special?

We felt self-conscious and silly taking engagement pics initially, especially since we were in an area with a good bit of people milling about watching. When the edited pics came back, we were over the moon! I’m sure your pics will turn out great!!

I’m in the same place as you - waiting! We felt really silly taking the photos but are hoping that they look good when they come back. Hopefully that’s very soon!

I am excited about getting out pictures done next week. I am frazzled about what to wear and if”this shirt makes me look fat.” After all these are pics I will have to see for the rest of my life and all my friends and family will see too. I am sure they will turn out great. We usually take great pictures together, and I have complete faith in my photographer. I am sure it will be fune, but I need to relax! We are doing out pictures in a large park that we have never been to. It was a suggestion by our photographer. She seems to have a great eye, so I have to give over control here and let it all flow naturally.

I felt weird about it going in, he didn’t really mind one way or the other. But in the end, it was REALLY fun! The photographer makes all the difference. They’ll be great!

I’m currently trying to figure out what to wear for our e-photos in 2 weeks. And how to do my hair. And my make-up. Oh, and my nails. Man! All those silly little details! Any more recommendations? I’m also super worried about the awkwardness, but hopefully we’ll be able to be ourselves and make it seem like we’re in love :). I can’t wait to see your photos!!!

@weddingstars2012: It was really nice to sit and talk with out photographer for a while before the pictures so it was less awkward. And the beer didn’t hurt either in eliminating the awkwardness! I’ve got my pictures back (don’t worry, I’ll post them soon!) and I think the only thing I would have done differently is get my hair done professionally. But I’m terrible at doing my hair, so if you are actually good at doing it, I wouldn’t worry about it. Other than that I LOVE them.

Miss Cannon: did you just not like the way your hair turned out or did it not hold up?

@weddingstars2012: Well, I did it myself by straightening it, and it started getting frizzy and curly due to the heat and humidity. It looks good in some pics and bad in others. By the end of the day I through it in a low pony tail, which is probably not the best look, but, meh, whatever, I like it!
