I normally love being the center of attention and enjoy getting my picture taken. But I have to admit I was feeling a bit awkward about engagement pictures. Don’t get me wrong, I was super excited that Mr. Cannon and I were going to get some pictures of us together. Ever since Cherry Bomb was born, we haven’t gotten many pictures of us. She is our favorite photographic subject, and pictures of the little lady have outweighed the pictures of us by a ton.

And honestly, most of the pictures of us prior to Cherry Bomb’s arrival were drunk self-portraits where we cut off half our faces. So the idea of having nice pictures of us as a couple is very appealing.

But, I was feeling very self-conscious and a little silly about it. You have to admit that it seems a bit vain to pay a stranger to follow you around and take pictures for a couple of hours. However, the pros outweighed the cons, and Mr. Cannon and I set up our appointment for early June. We wanted to have enough time to get a book of our engagement pictures back from the photographer to use as our guestbook for the wedding. Our photographer, Abby, suggested doing pictures during the Old West End Festival. We figured we could get some good pictures downtown and some carnival-type pictures by the food booths. So we agreed to meet there one Saturday evening.
We started the evening with a beer at a bar downtown with our photographer. We talked a bit to get to know one another better, and found out we had a lot in common. Abby was very easygoing and we all got along well. After chatting and finishing our beers, it was time to wander around Toledo taking pictures. It was a bit odd, but also a lot of fun. Abby had a bunch of great ideas and she even played along with my not-so-great ideas. (I happen to think that the upside-down Spiderman kiss was very fun. I’m not sure it will produce very good pictures, but we had a good time making Mr. Cannon hang upside down.)
I’m really excited to see how they turn out. Hopefully we look awesome and in love. I changed my mind about my outfit a million times and ended up buying whole new outfits. Of course then I worried I wouldn’t look like me in new clothes. But whatever—it’s all done, and I’m sure I looked fine. I know Mr. Cannon looked great. He bought a new shirt and he was looking pretty sexy. My biggest concern is how friggin’ hot it was that day. We were both sweating a ton, so I hope we don’t look completely disastrous. Argh, I just can’t wait to see the pictures!
How did you decide what to wear for your engagement pictures? Did you do your pictures anywhere special?
