Mrs. Marmalade's Picture
Mrs. Marmalade, Norwalk, CT/Raleigh, NC Age and Occupation: 27, Administrative Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Army Officer Engagement Date: December 31, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2011 Venue: Old Cadet Chapel/Highlands Country Club About Me: I'm a Tri-State area "lady," through and through. A big chunk of my life has been split between NYC and Connecticut, and I'm finally heading down south to live with Mr. Marmalade. Our long distance relationship has been one adventure after the next, we've spent time in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia, thanks to his military career. Next to Mr. Marmalade, my loves include live music, useless trivia, shoes, design, and my crazy half-tiger kitty, Oliver. I have a passion for food and wine, and I've been known to travel long distances to get my hands on the best meals. I come from a tight-knit big fat Greek Ecuadorian family---we're loud, we talk with our hands, and we spend hours talking loudly with our hands over large meals. I'm going to miss them so much as I pack up and begin my life, far away from home. But with Mr. Marmalade by my side, I'm ready to take on whatever may come. Next up: our wedding!
About Mrs. Marmalade

When I think of my bridesmaids, the theme song to The Golden Girls pops into my head. So here goes…

Clip via YouTube

Sigh. I love that show. Oh, but what the heck am I talking about here? Bridesmaids!

Deciding on who would make up my bridal posse wasn’t as easy as I first thought. To be honest, there was a list of 10 (TEN!!) women I love dearly, who I could have asked to stand up there beside me. What can I say? I’m a lucky girl. But, I decided to save something special for three of the girls, because they live insanely far away. I want my wedding to be a time of celebration and not a time of stress for my friends.

Then, I struggled with when and how to ask them. So I put it off. With BM Cuz’s wedding still in the works, I didn’t want to jump the gun. Until we got to seven months before the wedding, and then I freaked out and realized that I had to ask my girls right away! It wouldn’t be fair to wait any longer. But that meant no time for cute DIY cards, or a pic of the Golden Girls with our faces superimposed…

Asking them was a little awkward for me, and I didn’t want them to feel pressured to say yes if they couldn’t do it. The whole thing reminded me of the good old days of dating when you would get a note that said something like this:

Thank You for Being a Friend... : wedding bridesmaid raleigh Marm1

So I thought I would write them a note like that and fold it up, old-school style! But that was shot down by my friend and co-conspirator, L-Cray. Desperate, I scanned my brain for a quick way to ask them.

And then, lightning struck: e-cards!

Thank You for Being a Friend... : wedding bridesmaid raleigh Marm2

Card created via Someecards

TA-DA! My quick and dirty way to form your bridal party. And who could say no to that?! I made it myself! No cutting and pasting necessary. And hey, at least it got a laugh.

How did you ask your friends to be your bridesmaids? Was it tough to choose who would make up your bridal party?

What an awesome card - I heart someecards but never realized you could make your own, thanks for opening my eyes! I swear, all the creative ways you Bees came up with to ask your bridesmaids make me feel like Bride FAIL - I just…called them and said “ohmygodwe’reengagedwillyoubeabridesmaid??!!” The choice wasn’t hard - my only sis is my fabulous MOH, and my three best friends have told me they’d be bridesmaids practically the day I introduced them to Mr. PP. (guess they like him!) and, my two FSILs are great and so in the spirit of family and inclusiveness they round out my side to a nice even six.

OMG that is so adorable. I’m really impressed with your patience, too. I barely lasted a month before asking my ladies!

I understand waiting- many of my friends have expressed to me to do so- things change, even in just a year. And all say stay small. Especially my friend that had ten (plus two JR BM’s!).
Our party was so easy- we’re each just having one. FI has his brother, and I have a dear friend that I’ve known since I was 12. Done and done!
I wish I would have thought of that e-card to send her! I still might…

I may be a guy, but I use to watch the golden girls all the time. I love Blanch and her whorish ways, and Betty White is amazing in this show!

I love it! I didn’t realize that you could make your own someecards, that’s great! My one and only BM/MOH would love one, I just don’t know what to put on it. I’m still not sure how exactly I’m going to ask her, but I’m getting some killer ideas from WB!

OMGosh i LOVE the Golden Girls! I stupidly asked them in a text message because I was just way too excited and rushing into somethings the moment we got engaged, that my creative side didn’t even get a chance to flare up! BLAH. But that e-card is seriously cute! And if one of my bridesmaids can’t do it, I may ask my other friend with something like that!

Mauve! I was in my step sister’s wedding, and my dress was mauve. “Dusty rose” it was called. No, it was nasty mauve. :) I like the “I promise” card, funny! And the Golden Girls? Love it. Good job, Marm!

you are so kind a person! i think your girl friends should be rather willing to be your bridesmaid after receiving your cards. :-)
This is a good idea and i will copy your idea hope you do not mind, lol, as i have the same worry as you, afraid that my wedding might be their pressure in daily life.
