Mr. Macs and I were finally able to go check out some rings over the weekend. The trip was all about him, as we had already decided to get the matching band for me.

Mr. Macarons has this thing about his hands. Unless he’s using something like his iPad or drinking a cup of coffee, his hands have to be free. His one carry-on item? You better believe it’s a backpack. Want him to hold my purse? No deal, unless it’s big enough to fit over his shoulder. I can’t say I wasn’t shocked to find out he doesn’t like the feel of rings.
He knew I wanted a ring for the ceremony but that he’d hear no grief from me if he chose not to wear it. Because of this I assumed it’d be a pretty simple and straightforward purchase. Man, was I wrong.
First he tried a brushed finish Titanium comfort fit band. You can’t get any more simpler, and I was sure this was it. But, he wanted to try more.

Mr. Mac pointed to a platinum ring, but the jeweler advised against it for someone that’s not used to wearing them. I’m glad he tried it on anyways because it made all the other rings seem so much lighter!
The next ring had a brush finished band in the middle with a double step down edge. This was my favorite in terms of styling. This seemed like the clear winner until he saw the next band.

Mr. Mac really liked the idea of his ring being inscribed on the outside, but wanted to see if it could somehow be customized.

I asked the jeweler about it but she wasn’t familiar with the line. I couldn’t find a clear answer either way, so I emailed Scott Kay directly. No dice on the customization.
I did some digging online and ran across e-weddingbands. In addition to traditional inside engraving, some of their rings can be engraved on the outside as well. I clicked on their Live Help button and asked Jillian which of their cobalt rings could be engraved on the outside. I was hoping for this one, as it was the closest to the first Scott Kay design.

Julia regretfully informed me it wasn’t possible given the type of gradation and the narrowness of the brushed part. But, she did have a suggestion.
Their 7mm Domed Step Down Edge ring could be laser engraved. And even though it was pictured with a polished finish we could get it with the same brushed look as the other for free.

I told Mr. Mac about it and the differences weren’t enough to dissuade him. We ordered the ring as is and if Macs is happy with the quality and fit we’ll go ahead and send it back for the engraving.
Anyone else thinking about a custom ring? Were you happy with the results?
