Mrs. Seal's Picture
Mrs. Seal, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 25, Personal Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Sales and Support Specialist Engagement Date: December 12, 2009 Wedding Date: November 2011 Venue: Sts Peter and Paul Church/The Bently Reserve About Me: I am a goofy, wannabe crafty, well-intentioned Renaissance Woman (OK, perhaps "aimless wanderer" is a more aptly suited term for me, but hopefully you get the point)—basically I dabble in just about everything and pride myself in such. Without warning, I occasionally breakout into soulful improvised songs and interpretive dances and there's just no stopping me! As so many others before me, planning our wedding has unearthed a deep, intense passion for all things bridal and I secretly fear the day it will come to an end. Mr. Seal and I are quite the pair and life with him by my side is extremely rewarding—I am so thankful to have found him. Together we are planning a black-tie San Francisco affair for 250—light on the stuffiness and with lots of extra Seal-y flair.
About Mrs. Seal

We have a winner! (And she will be announced at the end of this post to forever live in BEE GLORY!)

In Part I, I introduced you to Mr. Piggy and asked you all to wager some guesses as to how much he was worth. If you recall, Mr. P was housing the savings for our favors (which I promise to reveal soon) and we set a goal of around $600.

Big Brother Seal is a coin aficionado (a hobby passed down from my maternal grandma) and he and FSIL Maria kindly agreed to help me sort out my change one evening.

We started out with this:

Money-Saving Methods: The Piggy Bank (Reveal) : wedding budget san francisco Coins coins

I don’t know if you can see that fat stack of cash on the left—Big Brother Seal told me putting cash in the piggy was cheating. I said my Piggy doesn’t discriminate—money is money!

After inspecting the coins for hidden gems…

…and adding a couple of special finds to Big Brother Seal’s collection…

…and filtering out the foreign coins…

(I bet Miss Gazelle and Mrs. Cinnamon Bun could tell you more about this one)

…we ended up with:

Money-Saving Methods: The Piggy Bank (Reveal) : wedding budget san francisco Img 15103 IMG_15103

Bills

  • $1 x 62 = $62
  • $5 x 12 = $60
  • $10 x 6 = $60
  • $20 x 5 = $100

Coins

  • Pennies x 850 = $8.50
  • Nickels x 360 = $18
  • Dimes x 400 = $40
  • Quarters x 240 = $60
  • Half Dollars x 6 = $3
  • 1 Dollar Coin x 2 = $2

GRAND TOTAL…

Money-Saving Methods: The Piggy Bank (Reveal) : wedding budget san francisco Piggyba piggyba

Not too bad, eh? Only a couple hundred shy of our total goal and over four months left to save. ;)

Thanks to everyone who played along!

The winner, with a guess of $413 is…dinajean! Woohoo! Congrats!

And…if she doesn’t claim her prize (of virtual high-fives from yours truly), the booty will go to the lovely Miss Pony with an amazingly close guess of $412.89.

How are your piggy banks doing? Are you close to reaching any of your “mini-goals”?

Wowza! You go, Seal!

We have coffee cans full of change tucked away and have a constant jar going…but have yet to “break them open” just yet. I’m hoping that it scores as much as your Mr. Piggy did for you!!

My piggy is still small, I think about $15 but that’s enough for a manicure! lol.

I did have $60 in there but I had to buy some leather cording for our favors and some fames for our guestbook table.

I never have cash and so therefore never have change, but I’m seriously going to go to the bank when I get paid on friday and buy a roll of quarters or something to put in there! :)

J and I have a huge 5 gallon water jug that we dump bills and change into. I love it. We probably have about $300 in there so far.

When I was little I started a coin jug in a 5 gallon water jug. It has gone everywhere with me, sat in a storage place when I lived over seas. I can no longer lift it and have to roll it if I want to move it. One of these days I will crack it open and count it.

Last year I found a penny that looked a bit off. I kept it, took it to a coin collector person. It was a rare wheat penny that is worth about $150. It might take a while, but it does not hurt to look for old change in the piggy bank, some times a penny is more than just one cent.

Now you’ve inspired me to shake out my change jar and find out how much is hiding in there! (Mr. PaC used to save his coins for gambling trips to Atlantic City.)

Thanks everybody :D We’re pretty proud of ourselves too!

@Miss Pony: You are one heckuva guesser, Miss Pony! GO YOU! ;)

@mittens111211: Hey that’s a start! One less expense to cross off the list!

@DesireeAnne: That’s awesome! It’s amazing how quickly all that change adds up!

@dinajean: YAAAAY! YOU WON! Virtual high-five to you! ;) I wish I had something more awesome to give you…I can give you that Canadian penny if you’d like?! Heheh. Thanks for playin’!

@carol: So true! We spent quite a fair amount of time sorting through the coins—I, with my brother’s help, came across a 74 y/o nickel (back when they were made of actual silver)…def. worth more than 5 cents ;)

@s2bBradsWifey: Hehehe, we totally have one of those envelopes too ;)

We have a “What the IRS missed” jar (I’m an accountant and yes, a nerd!). We emptied it out last year and spent it on a night out on the town so we don’t have near as much as you saved, but I’m still anxious to cash it in right before the wedding for last minute items! Way to save!
