Poorly Planned Registry

June 27th, 2011 @ 10:14 am by Mrs. Cannon

Creating a registry is something you should probably plan. Mr. Cannon and I did not. Bombshell was putting together shower plans and commanded us to register so she could tell people where we were registered, and so we went. We had no idea what we were going to register for. We don’t really need anything, but there are definitely things we want. Off we went, with vague ideas of wanting.

This is probably going to sound weird, but registering was kind of romantic for me. Not the actual registering part (that was kind of boring), but we had a babysitter for Cherry Bomb, so it was just Mr. Cannon and me walking around together. Almost every time we get a babysitter, there is a reason for it, and we attend to that reason and that’s it. But while we were registering, we didn’t have anything else to worry about except each other and our scanner guns. So it felt like a nice little date. We just wandered around holding hands and were able to give our full undivided attention to each other, which is a pretty rare treat. Yeah, it’s lame, but I really enjoyed it.

Romance, Aisle 10

Mr. Cannon felt weird about the whole thing. He said he felt like he was a little kid making a wish list for Santa. I don’t really get the big deal. But then again, I still write a wish list for my mom at Christmas. To me, it’s just a matter of being practical and letting people know what you want so you don’t get things you don’t need or (even worse!) don’t like. I still need to log in to the registries and change a few things, but overall I think we did pretty well. The only things I felt weird about registering for were a cake cutting set and champagne flutes. I probably wouldn’t have even thought to register for them, but the lady who helped us with the registry suggested them. So I threw some on. I feel like they’re kind of fancy for our casual affair, but they were pretty and I guess we need to cut the cake with something, right?

We have one more place we need to register, but we saved that romantic rendezvous for another day. (Actually I thought we could register online at this place, but found out we can’t. So out we go again!)

How did you pick your registry items? Were you a planner or did you make it up as you went along like we did?

We had an idea of the things that we needed (like a new blender) and some things that we wanted to upgrade (silverware, plates and bedding) but other than that we just walked around and picked out things we liked. I did edit some of those things off once I got home and didn’t really think we needed them.

You are too cute - romantic registering! :o) Our registering experience was more of me wanting everything and my husband trying to calm me down! That and us fighting over china/cake serving set - apparently I only liked the “girly” ones. Hee hee.

Yeah, we registered like this: I asked him where we should register, he said he didn’t care. I said what about Crate and Barrel and Bed Bath and Beyond, and he said fine. I showed him the first 5-10 things I put on the registry, then finally gave up and stocked it myself. 3 months later, he asked me where we were going to register. So I sent him the links and he sent me a few BBQ items and a New York Yankees grill cover.

But seriously, it was fun :)

We had certain items that needed to be replaced, but beyond that we had no plan. A lot of editing was done online for ours in the months that followed!

We went in without much of a plan either. All of our kitchen stuff was in boxes, so we couldn’t really know what we needed to replace or didn’t have already, so we tried to guess and hoped we registered for stuff we actually need. I see lots of online editing in our future!

We registered online using a site called MyRegsitry.com that lets you pick things from any store… it was super chill because we could add a few things one day and a few the next so it wasn’t too stressful. It actually became our “something to do during the commercials of Top Chef” activity for quite awhile haha. Maybe that’s why we both registerd for aprons that we’re never going to use? haha, still a fun and easy way to do it though!

Hehe, I’m glad it was such a romantic experience for you two! :D We kinda just wandered along figuring things out as we went—Mr. Seal had way too much fun scanning whatever his little heart desired…it was adorable to watch, I must say.

I still make a christmas list too! We registered at bb&b and crate and barrel. We tried to register for only things we were in desperate need of an upgrade like new pots, knives and sheets. But now I have been totally sucked into adding things from the comfort of my couch that we don’t need at all!

We haven’t registered yet but I wanted to comment, when our kids were (really) young…we’d have a good neighbor of ours babysit so we could steal away a grocery shopping trip without all five trailing behind, hanging off of the shopping cart like lil monkeys.

We called it our “date night” HA!

We didn’t plan very well, either. My wife and I talked about a registry, and she said “all I really want is some more nice sheets.” So, we registered for the trusty Thomas Lee sheets that we know and love (http://www.thomasleeltd.com), and then didn’t really know where to go from there. We did end up registering for some wine and did a honeymoon registry, which worked out really well for us!
