Mrs. Hyena's Picture
Mrs. Hyena, College Station, TX Age and Occupation: 23, Marketing Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Aerospace Engineering Grad Student Engagement Date: January 8, 2010 Wedding Date: May 2011 Venue: Downtown 202 About Me: I'm a Texas girl who met my future hubby in high school, then headed up to Oklahoma for a college education (BOOMER SOONER!) before moving back to the Lone Star State to be with him. I love reading and recycling, Photoshop and reality TV, making lame jokes and then laughing at them, quoting movies, and Mr. Hyena most of all. I'm perpetually early and I like to get things accomplished. When my cat meows at me, I meow back. We're planning a laid-back, unintentionally DIY wedding with a cocktail-party vibe, and can't wait to celebrate our nuptials with our nearest and dearest!
About Mrs. Hyena

Mr. Hyena and I had decided that we didn’t want to give gifts to each other before the wedding. Instead we decided to write each other love letters, to be read the morning of the wedding.

We wrote our first love letters to each other in high school; one of our senior class projects was to put together scrapbooks commemorating the year, and we were required to include things like essays about what we had learned about life during the year, as well as letters from others. Mr. Hyena and I wrote to each other, and we both kept those letters.

I had Bridesmaid J hand-deliver my letter to Mr. Hyena that morning.

Mr. Hyena had put a vase of pink and burgundy flowers in the bridal area along with his letter the night before, and I didn’t notice it until about half-way through the morning!

This was one of the few moments during the day where I got completely teary-eyed. Writing letters to each other was a wonderful idea, and I’m looking forward to keeping his letter and reading it for years to come.

That is a great idea! I wish we would have done that. I can imagine how much that added to the morning, and right before everything kicked off! So sweet :)

We exchanged gifts the week before the wedding (which was really our last alone time before everything began) and then letters the morning of the wedding. It was SO nice to read what the Mr. had written after spending so much time apart in the days leading up to our wedding.

That is such a sweet and excellent idea! So excellent that my FI and I are going to have to use it. It is very heartfelt and romantic. It’s also something that will be treasured throughout the marriage. I have an idea of a few things I want to give him for the wedding, but they don’t seem totally appropriate to exchange the morning of the wedding.

The pictures are so sweet. I love the ones where Mr. H is covering his mouth and laughing. So much emotion! :D And you look so beautiful.

Love letters?

We decided against gifts, but we are doing letters/cards… My FI has made me cards since before we were officially dating, and I’ve written him cards since that time too… So we like cards and thought it would be sweet to do :)

@Mrs. Ostrich: I know! He’s such a good hubby! :)
@2bMrsG: I recommend writing letters! Even if you do gifts too.
@JackieDe: Thank you! And HA, I knew there was a Friends reference in there somewhere! Good job. :)
@Jenlon: How sweet!

How sweet that you kept your letters all this time! And, major brownie points to Mr. H for giving you flowers (in wedding colors, no less)!

I don’t know if we will have enough money for gifts after paying for the wedding! However, I feel so badly about my guy buying me my wedding band. Since his band is barely even a fraction of the price, I am considering getting him a watch as well! But I love love love the idea of exchanging love letters. So sweet.

Mr. Cucumber Sammie has already been informed that he needs to buy me a present for our wedding morning but now I am adding love letter to the honey-do list as well. The pictures are amazing.
