Mrs. Marmalade's Picture
Mrs. Marmalade, Norwalk, CT/Raleigh, NC Age and Occupation: 27, Administrative Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Army Officer Engagement Date: December 31, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2011 Venue: Old Cadet Chapel/Highlands Country Club About Me: I'm a Tri-State area "lady," through and through. A big chunk of my life has been split between NYC and Connecticut, and I'm finally heading down south to live with Mr. Marmalade. Our long distance relationship has been one adventure after the next, we've spent time in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia, thanks to his military career. Next to Mr. Marmalade, my loves include live music, useless trivia, shoes, design, and my crazy half-tiger kitty, Oliver. I have a passion for food and wine, and I've been known to travel long distances to get my hands on the best meals. I come from a tight-knit big fat Greek Ecuadorian family---we're loud, we talk with our hands, and we spend hours talking loudly with our hands over large meals. I'm going to miss them so much as I pack up and begin my life, far away from home. But with Mr. Marmalade by my side, I'm ready to take on whatever may come. Next up: our wedding!

Decor—Inspiration Strikes!

June 28th, 2011 @ 10:22 am by Mrs. Marmalade

This picture from Snippet & Ink has been a sore spot in my inspiration folder.

It’s completely lovely, no doubt. But it’s completely different than anything else I’ve tucked away for inspiration. So now what? Take the inspiration and run with it, right?

We’re certainly incorporating text into our wedding, that’s for sure. But I don’t think the subway signs will work for us; I’m looking for something a little brighter. Then I forgot about this image until I saw this wedding on Green Wedding Shoes:

Wow. Whoa. HOLD ON.

They are absolutely perfect! I love the idea of introducing text into the room in a big way. Of course, I have no idea if this is feasible with our venue. (I will get to the venue soon, promise.) But if we get the thumbs up, I will happily buy some canvas, grab a paintbrush, and get to work.

What do you think? Too much? Too much work??

I think they are awesome. If your venue permits it, take it and RUN WITH IT AS FAST AS YOU CAN…. Without scissors of course :)

Absolutely not too much work. I LOVE these more that I can say. If the venue doesn’t allow them, I’d find another way to incorporate them. they are fantastic!

Yes, I love these. We can’t do them, as our venue won’t allow hanging things on the walls/ ceiling, but I can’t wait to see what you can do with it!

I want to do these, I’m just not sure how…any ideas? It doesn’t look freehand painted more like a type print….

These photos were in my inspiration folder as well! Like Miss Candy Apple, though, our venue wouldn’t allow hanging of any sort. Looking forward to seeing where you take this!

I LOVE the idea. ANd I don’t think the canvas’ would be too much work. Please provide a tutorial if you end up doing it!

If you wanted to be able to use them after the event I would paint on some fabric that could then be incorporated into quilts or blankets. That way you would be able to keep these. And if you are like me, then you would have another justifiable reason for putting extra care and thought into it.

I used to make banners like these for an organization I was in at college. We made ours using white flat bed sheets and painted the entire sheet one color, let it dry and then painted the pictures on.

I am sure you might want a nicer canvas than a painted sheet but for the other part, you can make any picture you want into a transperency. Then using an over head projector (ask a teacher friend or see if you can rent one from a library) you can sketch the picture on to your canvas and go from there.

Intricate banners can be a lot of work but it will be a lot of fun creating these with your fiance or even your bridesmaids!

Good Luck!
