About Mrs. Pony

Wedding Scatterbrain

June 28th, 2011 @ 10:54 am by Mrs. Pony

I have a serious condition, Hive. As we are getting closer to the wedding I feel as if my brain is working very very efficiently, but only for about .09 seconds at a time. Obviously, this is not ideal behavior for wedding planning (or, you know, working).

Usually my solution is to write a list of what is on my mind so I can rank things by importance after visually examining all the things floating around in my head. It also helps clear my mind so I can fall asleep a little easier at night.

But lately, my list making has resulted in this:

 Wedding Scatterbrain : wedding bloomington 2011 06 2011-06

That would be big pile o’ lists

A disorganized mess of thoughts. So instead of seeing all the things that need to be done I have separate lists for things to do this week (or next week, or the week after…), things for Mr. Pony to work on, things I need to buy, people I need to call, and about five different ’master’ project lists.

Not to worry, my contracts, receipts, and invoices are kept in a nicely organized binder so that someday in the near future they can be handed over to my coordinator and I can relax my mind, but the little things that need to get done are haphazardly spread across twenty or so loose pieces of paper.

All of these lists then cause my already scattered brain to temporarily shut down and seek out the cat nearest me to entertain me while my brain tries to reboot. Yet, as I sit at my computer trying to formulate thoughts for the next sentence I write, I vividly recall the URL for the retro swimsuit piece from the Country Living we got in the mail today. And I totally interrupted my writing to click over to check out their selections before trying to figure out how I could make an entire blog post about vintage swimwear seem wedding related (I couldn’t.). But just for the hell of it, I’ll share with you my favorite:

Wedding Scatterbrain : wedding bloomington Swim swim

Betsy Johnson one piece available at Diane’s Beachwear / Via Country Living

Married bees, please tell me this gets better. Or humor me at least? Planning bees, do you have wedding scatterbrain or do you compulsively make to do lists like I do? Anyone else want to just give up and go shopping for something completely non-wedding with me (anyone remember those days, when you shopped without thinking how you could use something for your wedding. Oh, I miss those days. I digress.)?

Ive got about a million lists like that too. Oh and “sketches” of the setup. I use that term loosely…

This is exactly how I feel!! I can’t get anything done because I get so distracted once I start something.

I remember those days! It gets better, don’t worry! I am a list maker too, and it seemed like I was just making lists of lists just a year ago. LOL. But do whatever it is you need to do to feel in control - and don’t feel guilty when you want to search out some super cute retro swim wear! :)

I was a compulsive list maker like you! Mr. E would make fun of me for adding stuff to the list just to cross it off, but I liked having record of what was completed. P.S. - It’s so weird for me to go to a craft store now, I have to remind myself that I don’t need wedding stuff anymore.

Haha! Yup, totally am the same way - about a day after we got engaged, my brain started whirring in eighteen different directions and hasn’t stopped since - now if only I could find a way to bill for “frantic list-making totally unrelated to any client matter” - have you had any luck on that front? :) but I do hear it gets better afterwards - AND, that you will once again be able to go to a mall without trying to think about how you can repurpose the Crate and Barrel display into a great cake table at the reception!

Feeling like that now. I make all these lists and constantly have lists of things to do going through my head, and then when it’s time to do something, I’m out of energy. Just a little less than 3 weeks, there is a lining!

Just wait until you’re 11 days away! My brain will not. stop. making. lists.

Not very reassuring, but at least you’re not alone!

It gets better! I spent a couple weeks completely unable to focus, but right before the wedding you’ll be able to buckle down and get everything accomplished!

I finally put Task List Pro on my iPhone so I could add stuff whenever I happened to think of something. You can add lists within a task as well, plus it keeps track of the things you check off! I love seeing all the completed tasks at the bottom!

If you think you’re bad0- I have PILES of stuff, not just lists. Piles and piles or lists, contracts, etc. Oh, and let’s not forget my over obsessing and photoshop montages of what the bridal party will look like, what our ceremony will look like and more! I’ve even gone so far as to order special TOILET PAPER. I need help ;)

I’m completely scattered - I start something and can focus on it for about 2 minutes before I find myself jumping elsewhere. The big torture for me now is that all my invitation components were delivered yesterday, so I can start DIYing them, but I have other work that needs to get done - it’s very hard to try to focus on NONwedding projects when theres fun wedding stuff to do!

I have been this way for a few weeks now and I still have 102 days (thanks to a countdown app on my phone I know this fun little fact). Work is a challenge because I lose focus so quickly, especially on long boring projects. There are times when I am able to focus, but they are few and far between. Give me a DIY project for the wedding and I can focus on it for hours! I make spreadsheets and email them to my FH. He just goes with it, knowing it’s part of my wedding craziness. When I totally blank on something or lose my focus for the thousandth time, I call it Bride Brain Can’t Remember Sh#t or BBCRS. It’s really a tragic illness that strikes brides all over the world. There is no cure…

That swimsuit just sucked all the productivity out of my body. OhmiGAHHH.

Miss P, you are fabulous. Have faith that everything will fall right into place when it’s ready. And in the meantime, KEEP SWIMSUIT SHOPPING & SHARING PICS. ; )

i cant stop making lists, and it’s not just wedding stuff. I’ve always been a compulsive list maker when I get stressed and feel like I have millions of things to do and not enough time to do them.

It always puts things in perspective and makes me feel better…

P.S. I was so sad to see how much that bathing suit is… i should have known, Betsy Johnson is super high priced :( but so super cute too!

I must have AT LEAST twenty lists. I’ve scratched notes on napkins, index cards I find lying around FI’s house, excess papers from work, and even clothing tags!!! I’ll write on anything I can get my hands on!!! And I write things down as soon as I think of them, or I guarantee, I WILL forget them!

I’m planning, and I am totally with you on the lists! I make countless post-its! They are everywhere!! It looks like the cover of Office Space. None are organized, and when they get peeled and stuck too many times, they start to lose their sticky and fall off to never be seen or heard from again. I am so paranoid about the stuff that’s not going to get done because of lost post-its!!!

I am exactly 1 week into planning my wedding, and I already have a STACK of lists. I’m pretty sure I had my first argument EVER with my fiance this morning about them! I have to organize my brain that way, or else I am even nuttier!!
