Mrs. Marmalade's Picture
Mrs. Marmalade, Norwalk, CT/Raleigh, NC Age and Occupation: 27, Administrative Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Army Officer Engagement Date: December 31, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2011 Venue: Old Cadet Chapel/Highlands Country Club About Me: I'm a Tri-State area "lady," through and through. A big chunk of my life has been split between NYC and Connecticut, and I'm finally heading down south to live with Mr. Marmalade. Our long distance relationship has been one adventure after the next, we've spent time in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Georgia, thanks to his military career. Next to Mr. Marmalade, my loves include live music, useless trivia, shoes, design, and my crazy half-tiger kitty, Oliver. I have a passion for food and wine, and I've been known to travel long distances to get my hands on the best meals. I come from a tight-knit big fat Greek Ecuadorian family---we're loud, we talk with our hands, and we spend hours talking loudly with our hands over large meals. I'm going to miss them so much as I pack up and begin my life, far away from home. But with Mr. Marmalade by my side, I'm ready to take on whatever may come. Next up: our wedding!
About Mrs. Marmalade

Sometimes, after a rough day, all I can think of is meeting up with friends and unwinding over a glass of wine, maybe some pizza (probably both). Well, I had a bad day last week and, instead of craving a glass of red, I had the craziest urge to make something. Instantly I thought to myself, “Cuz needs a ring-bearer pillow. I can tackle that. And if she likes it—great! And if she doesn’t, at least I tried.”

I took my inspiration from the sweet ring-bearer bowls by Paloma’s Nest

…combined with this bird’s nest pillow by Designed By Love that BM Cuz wanted but couldn’t have (because the shop had taken a hiatus).

To make this:

The One Where We Make a Ring-Bearer Thing... : wedding diy raleigh ring bearer Ringdi ring+di

Full disclosure: there may have been a glass of wine involved in this process, which would explain the horrible iPhone pic. It was just one of those things that I thought was a great idea at the time, but…

It’s still a work in progress, but it’s so close to being done. The moss needs to be secured to the dish (you can see that it’s still not attached at the bottom), and I need to make sure the ribbon is the right length. The main thing about it is that BM Cuz likes it! So that’s a success, right?

Materials:

  • Small terra cotta saucer, four inches
  • Ribbon
  • Can of metallic spray paint
  • “Moss” (I mistakenly bought fake moss, which I originally hated but I’m all right with now.)
This project took about an hour, which allowed me time to spray paint the saucer in between bites of my dinner. So suffice it to say, it shouldn’t take that long to make.
What do you think?

OMG! I love it. Perhaps it is self explanatory, but can you do instructions when you are done?

Do you have anything under the moss to add depth/fill it up? Soil or anything?

It’s perfect. I really want to buy a paloma’s nest ring bearer thing but I have no ring bearer :( Maybe a prewedding present to myself!
