Mrs. Macarons, Tampa Age and Occupation: 26, Graphic Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Renaissance Man Engagement Date: September 12, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Lange Farm About Me: I'm creative at heart and a graphic designer with an unhealthy obsession with type. I love roller coasters, spicy foods, and a good glass of Crianza. We’re planning a soft and lovely vintage-meets-modern wedding in a state that’s known for its beaches, glitz and glam. I have a ton of DIY projects and lots of little details I’m dying to share and can't wait to celebrate with our closest friends and family.
About Mrs. Macarons

And I plan on filling that space with light!

If you recall my inspiration board, I love the look of lace wrapped candles. They’re just so soft and romantic—what’s not to love? Beth Helmstetter gives a brief tutorial here, but I thought you’d appreciate a more detailed account.

First you’ll need the following:

Lace Is as Much About the Space Between the Threads as It Is About the Threads Themselves.* : wedding decor diy tampa Tumblr tumblr_

  • My favorite scissors
  • glue sticks for your glue gun
  • lace of choice, cut to appropriate length
  • glass cylinders or straight sided votives
  • Candles

I purchased the lace from eBay, the tall cylinders from Michaels, and small votives and candles from quickcandles. FYI, I originally ordered the ivory candles to match the lace, but they were way more yellow in person. The white were less expensive and looked just fine.

Step 1: Make a very thin line of glue on the glass. I waited a second before placing the lace on top and pressing down. This made sure I had very little glue oozing out between the lace.

Step 2: Wait a second or two then make another very thin line of glue on top of the lace and attach the other end. If you’re using a lace that isn’t quite as open, I’d fold over the top edge to have a clean seam. Doing so with with my kind of lace just drew more attention to it. What about that little piece that’s out of place? Cut it off.

I repeated steps 1 & 2 but flipped the lace with the scallops facing down.

I’m using floating candles for two reasons.

  1. They’re significantly cheaper than pillars
  2. Just look at that dreamy glow.

I plan on grouping the tall pillars around the room and the votives will be sprinkled around the centerpieces. I still have plenty of lace so I’m thinking about picking up a few more pillars. There can never be too many candles, right?

Are you doing anything special for lighting?

I did the same thing, except I used double-sided tape. Hopefully it holds up! I plan on placing them everywhere around our venue!

I love those scissors! I have the Honey Bee ones and they’re just so handy! Great for snipping tiny things.

Those candles are dreamy. :)

@Miss Cinnamon Bun: I love my Honey Bees but I’ve put them through a lot and I think they might not be as sharp as they used to. Have you tried sharpening yours at all?
@sunitabee: I’ve been bad and haven’t really been keeping track. I bought the cylinders over time from michaels when they were on sale for 2/$5. Dollar Tree has ones about the height of the shorter ones but I didn’t find that out till after I had already made them.
@lolo7835: Take a look at Ebay, that’s where I found mine.

I love these!!!! This is the first real-life (as in, somebody I sort of know in the sense that we’re fellow ‘bee bloggers) execution of this I’ve seen, and they’re wonderful! See, this totally makes me want to do candles.
