About Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich

Before and After

June 30th, 2011 @ 4:16 pm by Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich

I think our engagement story suits us as a couple. It is convoluted and a little accident prone, but very sweet and sentimental. Mr. Cucumber Sammie is going to kill me for starting at the beginning, but if I left it out I wouldn’t be telling the whole truth.

Mr. Cucumber Sammie and I started talking about getting engaged awhile ago. We discussed what kind of ring I would want and when he would ask. If I am going to throw him under the bus in a minute, I might as well be honest about myself as well; I was not the most patient bride-to-be. I got a little antsy toward the end and might have started nagging. It was not pretty. Mr. Cuc Sandwich got the not so subtle hint and got me a ring.

He couldn’t decide when to pop the question, so he carried the ring around in his pocket for a while, where I promptly found it. Yes, you read that correctly. I found the ring before he proposed. In my defense, it was not my fault. (I blame the pickle puppy.) I went to take the dog out and grabbed the first jacket I saw off the coat rack. It turned out to be his jacket, and I would have thought nothing of the bulges in the pocket had he not panicked.

“TAKE IT OFF, TAKE IT OFF!”

Of course I gave him the crazy eye and took off his jacket. About five minutes later he was clearly still thinking about it and gave me some excuse for flipping out. (I think it had something to do with important USBs.) Once he realized I was not buying it, he fessed up and told me he had the ring. Declaring that I had ruined it, he said he was going to wait to propose until I forgot about it. (How naive to think that anybody could forget about a diamond.)

All this happened in February 2010 and, true to his word, he waited. Every time we went out to dinner or had a nice evening planned, I thought, “This is it.” At this point almost two months of my constant vigilance had gone by. Finally, at the moment I least expected it, Mr. Cucumber Sammie asked me to marry him.

It was a Saturday morning, and I was in my glasses, painting sweatshirt, and sweat pants. I must really love you, hive, if I am going to share the pictures of my “just engaged” outfit.

Every girl’s dream engagement outfit

Mr. Cuc Sandwich was supposed to be taking the puppy out, and I was in the kitchen making Cream of Wheat. I was yelling for him to tell me what he wanted on his, when I whirled around and there he was on one knee. Mr. Cucumber Sammie gave me the most sincere and loving speech about how he had thought long and hard about where he wanted to do this. He thought about fancy restaurants and surprises, but he realized he wanted to do it here in our home where our family first started. Hopefully my answer is obvious!

Mr. Cuc Sammie reenacting the proposal

After all the excitement and fanfare, we sat down to a lovely breakfast of Cream of Wheat! We waited a couple of hours to just spend time together before we called family and friends. It was an amazing way to start the weekend.

Did anyone else have a morning proposal? Accidentally find the ring?

Coming up next: the ring!

I had a night proposal! It was like 11pm and I was actually sleeping, he had been out working with his dad and when he came to bed he woke me up and I really didnt pay attention that he was on one knee until he was like I love and want to be with you forever, he then wispered in one ear “will you” and the other ear “marry me”. I said yes of course.

I had been nagging him though we have been together for 5 years and I really thought it was time and was scared he was going to have the same commitment(sp) issues as the rest of his family and I told him that if we werent engaged soon I wanted to know if he did indeed want to be with me forever.

Now we will be together forever! :)

That’s sweet that Mr. Cucumber Sandwich was still able to catch you off guard after finding the ring.

Awwwww! That sounds like mine (which I’ll be sharing later ;)) I was also totally impatient. And I snooped. All the time. Gotta love him for loving me anyway :)

Aw, poor Mr. CS! He probably about died when you put that jacket on! Mr. P asked pretty quickly after getting the ring because he was afraid of something like that happening, but I think it makes for a cute story. :)

I had a morning proposal! I always told my guy that I wanted to get engaged in the morning so that I could celebrate the entire day. And I think that getting engaged at home is super special. You are a lucky girl!

I got engaged Christmas morning. He gave me a lamp and I seriously thought, are you kidding me?! A lamp?! I have to admit, I did like it, but I thought after two years of living together, all he gets me is a desk lamp?! LOL
I hate to sound materialistic, but come on! I put some thought into his gifts. Then he said there is another present for you on the tree. I looked around and all I found was a marzipan pig. Yep. The same gross little pig I found while out shopping earlier that week and brought home to try and convince him to eat. No go. So I stuck it on the tree.
He laughed and pulled out a box ornament that i have had for years and handed it to me. I opened it and the ring box fell out. I opened the ring box and saw the diamond ring.
Now he hadn’t said anything up to this point and I thought, oh my goodness, what does this mean? So I said, “how beautiful!” and he said “well is it good enough to marry me?!” And I said of course, I would have taken a tinfoil ring! And then he actually said “will you marry me?” and then I cried. Aw. Gets to me every time!

I had a similar experience, we had gone ring shopping and after being together for over 5 yrs I was very anxious! So I thought I would know when he would propose….I came home from work on a Saturday after work and made a lunch..without all the gooey details he totally caught me off guard and proposed! I had to swallow a bite of my ham and cheese before I could say yes :)

Ahaha, I love how cute and homey your proposal is. They all happen in different ways and this seems perfect for you. I love that he freaked out with the jacket… haha. Way to hold your ground Mr. CS and surprise her anyhow!

My sister-in-law was washing the dishes by herself when my brother disappeared and then showed up in the kitchen in his best suit and got down on one knee to propose. Also pretty spur of the moment since she had her rubber dishwashing gloves on. I think it’s cute when they want to propose in an intimate environment like the home. :)

I was def in the same boat of nagging, although in my defense I tried really hard to restrain myself though lol.

I told him it was like promising a 5 year old little girl a sparkly pink pony, and the little girl knows she’s getting a pony, but she just doesn’t know when and she wants that pony and its all she can think about!!! So post ring-shopping and before he engaged we referred to my future engagement ring as a pony.

YES!!! Sounds very similar to our engagement! I knew the ring was coming because sadly one evening he was really stressing out and in mid flip out he shouted how he was so stressed because he was paying for my ring!!!
