Mrs. Hyena, College Station, TX
Age and Occupation: 23, Marketing Specialist
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Aerospace Engineering Grad Student
Engagement Date: January 8, 2010
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: Downtown 202
About Me: I'm a Texas girl who met my future hubby in high school, then headed up to Oklahoma for a college education (BOOMER SOONER!) before moving back to the Lone Star State to be with him. I love reading and recycling, Photoshop and reality TV, making lame jokes and then laughing at them, quoting movies, and Mr. Hyena most of all. I'm perpetually early and I like to get things accomplished. When my cat meows at me, I meow back. We're planning a laid-back, unintentionally DIY wedding with a cocktail-party vibe, and can't wait to celebrate our nuptials with our nearest and dearest!
I shared the music we played during our ceremony, and then it was time to get the party started! We had our coordinator start our cocktail hour music right before people were set to arrive at Downtown 202. Here is the complete set list.

Fiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Animator
Engagement Date: July 27, 2010
Wedding Date: June 2011
Venue: Hummingbird House
About Me: My life is pretty much spent in a sea of fabric, paint, sequins and drama. When I’m not working, I play on a trivia team, take Broadway dance classes, read, buy shoes, and occasionally geek out on video games. I am an American girl who loves all things British and Mr. Waffle is a Brit who loves all things American...I guess it was meant to be!
Bonus points if you know what movie that’s from!

Ahhhhhh! Can you believe it? I mean, can you actually believe it? I can’t! How is this day here already? Not that I’m complaining. This is amazing! The whole week has been amazing…and surreal! The guests have been trickling in since Tuesday, there’s been a hustle and bustle of activity and I’ve been bouncing around the house á la Paul Revere chanting, “The British are coming! The British are coming!”

Mrs. Jaguar, Sydney
Age and Occupation: 27, Primary School Teacher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, IT Consultant
Engagement Date: August 8, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2011
Venue: Curzon Hall
About Me: I'm an Australian girl who is a self-proclaimed nerd, loves all things stationery and would be lost without books, music and the internet. Mr. Jaguar and I have been together for the past eight years and he finally popped the question last August. Hurrah! We currently live in Sydney, Australia with our adorable cat who thinks he's a person. We're a couple who likes to multi-task: we've been planning a wedding abroad, a permanent move from London to Sydney, and preparing to build our own home all at the same time. Travelling makes me giddy...as does Mr. Jaguar, of course!
I feel like I should have all these epic last minute DIY projects or surprises to unveil here before the wedding. In truth? It’s more like an ever-growing list of random ‘Stuff-I-Have-Forgotten-About-Until-Now’ & they are far from fun or exciting. I’m okay with doing things at the last second, which is a good thing considering the amount of ‘little things’ I’m now chasing up. Liiiiiiiiike these ones:
- I’ve spent the last few weeks panicking about how to inform our guests of which table they’re sitting at for the reception. I wanted to keep it simple and do a row of folded cards, but Mr. Jaguar was unusually vocal about not wanting to do it that way. (Why? I have no idea.) Thankfully, a few Bees have stepped in to help me out with this one – once everything is printed, I’ll share how it turned out!
- Programs & Place-cards: they’re being done today in a giant marathon sitting. My mum is heading over to our apartment, I have the programs printed and ready to assemble, and hopefully all will be well soon. If I never have to look at another piece of ribbon again, I’ll be happy!
- Mr Jaguar’s brother arrived in Sydney from London just this morning, and we’ve got to organise his final suit fitting and make sure everything fits based on the measurements he sent us from overseas.
- The venue needs us to drop off ALL of our wedding goods to them by Tuesday (OMG) – so I’m hastily making sure everything we’ve bought and got ready to put to good use over the last 18 months is packaged up, complete with letters of instruction/assembly. I sort of wish this wasn’t needed so early, but eh, that’s what they say.

Mrs. High Wire, Dallas
Age and Occupation: 23, Legal Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Director of Communications
Engagement Date: October 9, 2010
Wedding Date: September 2011
Venue: Clark Gardens
About Me: My loves include yoga, anything spicy, our eccentric cat, our rambunctious dog, and Mr. High Wire, of course! Like the steadiness act of the tightrope walker, this gal is busy balancing life while planning a wedding to the man of her dreams. We’re hosting a laid-back, vintage-inspired, bird themed wedding with heavy doses of love, good eats (did someone say tacos and margaritas?), and endless Texas charm. Mr. High Wire and I are so happy to have you along for the walk across the tight rope.
In the first of many activities to combat the post-wedding blues, we’re jetting off on a spectacularly spectacular honeymoon, planned solely by The Fiancé. I had a very short list of items I wanted him to include on our honeymoon itinerary: sun, sands, and a drink in my hand with no bottom, (no shoes, no shirt, no problem).
Originally it was going to be a surprise to me, but detail after detail leaked out.
Did you know we are terrible at keeping secrets from each other? I don’t know how he wound up not spilling the beans that he was proposing in Las Vegas. With regards to the honeymoon, over time I wound up knowing every single detail except for what exact resort we were staying at. Finally, I told him to just tell me the name of the resort so I could go ahead and Google it.
Any guesses as to where we are headed?

Mrs. Bunting, Grand Rapids, MI
Age and Occupation: 24, freelance illustrator & print production
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, graduate of history
Engagement Date: December 3, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2011
Venue: Spring Grove Park & St. George Banquet Center
About Me: I am a freelance illustrator and designer with a love of nature and a taste for adventure. Textures and color fuel my world, along with apple cider and noodles. I'll try anything once, especially if it involves heights or food. I've hiked the Grand Canyon, gone sky diving, cuddled a baby wolf, and now my latest venture consists of designing and planning a large wedding involving color, DIY details, love, and marrying my best friend.
I knew right off the bat that I would be designing our invitation suite. I also knew these invites had to follow very specific guidelines set by yours truly. They had to be colorful. They had to include illustrations. They had to reflect our wedding style. And most importantly, they had to be an accurate representation of Mr. Bunting and me as a couple and as individuals. (This is beginning to sound like a repeat of the save the dates, isn’t it?)
That last one is a lot of pressure to put on yourself. I’ve faced this challenge as an illustrator many times before as I struggled to develop an artistic style in college that reflected my “voice,” and I was about to face it again with our wedding invitations.
They had to be us, and man is hard to pin us down into a single design suite. The pressure was almost too much, so once again I procrastinated. A lot. I procrastinated by scouring the internet for inspiration, and just when I thought I’d found some elements that would be my inspirational focal point, I found another invitation suite that ran in the opposite direction (and was just as cool).
I finally had to gather all my favorite sources of inspiration in front of me and then just sit down and start drawing. I gave myself a pep talk about how there’s no way anyone can create something that embodies everything about us as individuals, so I focused on a starting element and things slowly evolved. Before I knew it, I had a general, consistent theme that just felt right. And despite all my procrastination, I started early enough so that I could pick away at all the little details until I had something I was really proud of. There were many neat elements and ideas that I had to sadly cast aside, but I realized that the illustrations needed to be the focal point and anything else was an unnecessary distraction.
So, without further ado, here are the Bunting wedding invitations!

Mrs. Macarons, Tampa
Age and Occupation: 26, Graphic Designer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Renaissance Man
Engagement Date: September 12, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2011
Venue: Lange Farm
About Me: I'm creative at heart and a graphic designer with an unhealthy obsession with type. I love roller coasters, spicy foods, and a good glass of Crianza. We’re planning a soft and lovely vintage-meets-modern wedding in a state that’s known for its beaches, glitz and glam. I have a ton of DIY projects and lots of little details I’m dying to share and can't wait to celebrate with our closest friends and family.
I was clueless about reputable florists in our area, so I started with the venue’s preferred vendors. I sent a few inquiries with guidelines as to how many guests and arrangements we’d need and described the look I was going for. I also stipulated I wanted to have ivory garden roses and mentioned peonies would be nice, even though I knew they’re pretty much out of season by September.

Mrs. Giraffe, Chicago
Age and Occupation: 23, Graphic Designer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Music Student Teacher
Engagement Date: October 23, 2008
Wedding Date: May 2011
Venue: Trinity Lutheran Church & Idlewild Country Club
About Me: Coming from the suburbs of the Windy City, you'll often find me with my foot in my mouth while laughing for no reason or telling bad knock knock jokes. I've been crafty for as long as I can remember, and will DIY something twice over before I have someone do it for me. I'm a semi-awkward, typeface obsessed, design junkie and have been know to break out my dance moves for no reason as well as try my best to be ridiculous at all times. My love of pop culture, wordplay, and graph paper almost rivals my love of Mr. Giraffe (who is just the bee's knees). After a 2.5 year engagement, we're planning a modern-in-disguise traditional wedding, and cannot wait!
“Smile because it happened.”
Or at least that’s what Dr. Seuss tells you to do…or what Mr. Giraffe keeps telling me to do.
See, here’s the thing, Hive…In the interest of full disclosure, I’m going to be honest with you all. I feel conflicted about our wedding. I can look back and key into my feelings on that day and I remember how I felt: entirely blissful, glowing, sheer happiness. That’s the thing, I remember feeling that way, I remember telling Mama Giraffe that it was the best day of my life, I remember crying uncontrollably right after our ceremony (but before pictures—oops) because I was so overwhelmed with emotions and happiness.
I know that’s how I felt; I remember it, but I don’t feel that way anymore.
Mr. G and I had a long talk about this while we ate dinner our the beach during our honeymoon, but I’ll break it down for you guys.
It’s over.
The wedding is over and gone and I am so heartbroken about it.

Engagement Date: December 1, 2009
Wedding Date: October 2011
Venue: Barn at Valhalla
About Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!
I had hemmed and hawed and complained about the registry a long while ago, here and here, but Mr. Magic and I finally decided on a couple of registries that would fit our grown ass up needs. The first registry we created was at

I had suggested Bed Bath & Beyond for it’s affordability and awesome coupons, but Mr. Magic wanted something a bit more posh. After all, we’ll only get to request that our friends and families buy us expensive items that we could never afford ourselves once, right?
Walking around Crate & Barrel was hilarious, y’all.

Mrs. Taco, San Francisco
Age and Occupation: 29, writer/editor
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 37, editor
Engagement Date: May 13, 2009
Wedding Date: August 2010
Venue: The Green Room at the War Memorial Veterans Building
About Me: I like laughing and talking with good friends over good food and good drink, be it wine, cocktail, or brew. I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. I ran and didn't look back with a theme I called "urban vintage," and it culminated in the most magical day a taco could ask for.
A Bee’s Life: Taco
How a girl who loves San Francisco, eating out, and photo booths became a taco (tee hee).

It’s a bag that holds my makeup. Well-considered birthday present from my friend Sonia. I also got a new hat recently, which has nothing to do with tacos.
How did I find Weddingbee?
I had cursory knowledge of Weddingbee in mid-2009, around when I got engaged. But once I could start planning a wedding in earnest, I visited wedding blogs, including this one, more regularly for tips. I loved seeing people’s inspirations unfold, and I enjoyed the spunk these buzzing blogger bees had about their weddings. People have weddings every day, BFD, right? But there was something different about these ladies, and I appreciated their thought, planning, and sense of ownership over something this personal. And the ratio of supportive/productive comments to trolls is astounding.

Mrs. Snow Cone, Pittsburgh/Johnstown, PA
Age and Occupation: 23, Public Health Graduate Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Engineer
Engagement Date: April 9, 2010
Wedding Date: August 2011
Venue: OMOS Church ceremony/Sunnehanna Country Club reception
About Me: I’m one of the lucky ones---I met my future husband at the ripe old age of 13, started dating him as a mature woman of 15, and have been enjoying the ride ever since. Here we are, 8 years later, living in Pittsburgh, planning a "homestination" wedding in the place our school romance began---Johnstown, PA. I thrive on talking a mile a minute, eating my weight in chocolate, and internet shopping. I love a lengthy to-do list almost as much as I love a healthy amount of chaos in my life. Mr. Snow Cone and I watch countless episodes of Friends and The West Wing on repeat, root for rival college sports teams, and make each other laugh each and every day. We’re putting together a small-town wedding with a big personality and a classically modern (or modernly classic?) look for 250 of our closest family and friends. It’s been 8+ years in the making, and sometimes I still can’t believe I’m finally getting to marry my high school sweetheart!
Wedding planning always goes more efficiently when Mr. Snow Cone’s in the mix. While I like to take a look at all the options available to me, he likes to make a decision and move on. Even though his decision-making process is quite different than mine, including him in the wedding planning is always a breath of fresh air because he recognizes that there are many ways to achieve happiness so it’s not necessary to experience a buttload of stress trying to find the singular best option. Just find something that makes you happy and keep on keepin’ on.
With that being said, it’s really no surprise that our ring shopping consisted of one stop to one store to try on a very small handful of rings. We popped into Brooks Diamonds in the Clark Building of downtown Pittsburgh, where Mr. Snow Cone designed my e-ring. My ring shopping experience was pretty darned simple because of some forethought on Mr. Snow Cone’s part. When he designed my e-ring, he opted to place a prong setting on top of a diamond wedding band, with the intention of me getting that exact same band without the prong setting as my wedding ring. All I can say is, the boy has good taste. I slipped the band on with my e-ring, stared at it for a few seconds, and then promptly decided that would be it. One ring, one decision. Not too shabby.
Here’s a picture of my e-ring flying solo:

Mrs. Sparkler, Chicago
Age and Occupation: 27, Communications Aficionado
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Publisher
Engagement Date: July 21, 2010
Wedding Date: September 2011
Venue: Chicago Illuminating Company
About Me: I’m a Southern lady living in the big city of Chicago. Well, lady may be a stretch, but I’m working hard to keep some Virginia charm in our sleek, urban, wedding-palooza! I’m addicted to marathons, not-so-famous bands, Chicago restaurants, and Mark Twain. I cry during SPCA commercials, and I think LOST was the best show to ever hit television. Mr. S and I met at a classy college mixer and, 7 years later, he’s still by my side. He’s the only child, laid back, free spirit... I’m the oldest of five kids, type-A, organizer. It doesn’t work on paper, but we’ve never paid attention to that stuff anyway. Somehow it works. And like they say, sometimes when you know…you just know.
So Sparks needs a suit. His groomsmen need suits. All of the men involved in the wedding need suits. And yet… not a single decision has been made on color, cut, or kind. And that’s fine. I will not freak out about this. After months of prodding (and sometimes begging) Sparks to make a decision, this is the answer I got:
Sparks: Well, it’s just that I don’t know what I want to wear yet.
Me: You don’t have to know what you want to wear. You just need to tell the groomsmen what to wear.
Sparks: Don’t we wear the same thing?
Sparks thought it was required that they all wear the exact same suit. No, no, no, Sparks… you can wear whatever you want! You’re super special that day. Silly.
But since that’s settled, we can move on to picking an outfit for our 7 handsome groomsmen. The way I see it, we have 3 options:
1. We ask the groomsmen to purchase a suit that we select.
This was my original idea. Yeah… until I realized how much a freakin’ suit costs. Wowwww guys. Seriously?

Mrs. Seal, San Francisco
Age and Occupation: 25, Personal Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Sales and Support Specialist
Engagement Date: December 12, 2009
Wedding Date: November 2011
Venue: Sts Peter and Paul Church/The Bently Reserve
About Me: I am a goofy, wannabe crafty, well-intentioned Renaissance Woman (OK, perhaps "aimless wanderer" is a more aptly suited term for me, but hopefully you get the point)—basically I dabble in just about everything and pride myself in such. Without warning, I occasionally breakout into soulful improvised songs and interpretive dances and there's just no stopping me! As so many others before me, planning our wedding has unearthed a deep, intense passion for all things bridal and I secretly fear the day it will come to an end. Mr. Seal and I are quite the pair and life with him by my side is extremely rewarding—I am so thankful to have found him. Together we are planning a black-tie San Francisco affair for 250—light on the stuffiness and with lots of extra Seal-y flair.
Rather than working on the unfinished wedding craft projects that have currently rendered my dining room table useless (seriously, it’s a disaster), I am daydreaming about my bridal shower and rehearsal dinner outfits. Care to contribute to my procrastination and look at pretty things?
Of course you do!
My French-inspired bridal shower look:

Clockwise from top: “Oui” Necklace via Etsy seller ArtWark; Miss Dior Eau de Parfume via Sephora; “I Lacquer A Lot” Dress via ModCloth; Enzoani Sandals via Zappos
I have been eyeing that “oui” necklace for months and I think I might finally bite the bullet this week and scoop it up. Mmm and the Miss Dior perfume is one of my scent staples!
