Mrs. Bunting, Grand Rapids, MI
Age and Occupation: 24, freelance illustrator & print production
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, graduate of history
Engagement Date: December 3, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2011
Venue: Spring Grove Park & St. George Banquet Center
About Me: I am a freelance illustrator and designer with a love of nature and a taste for adventure. Textures and color fuel my world, along with apple cider and noodles. I'll try anything once, especially if it involves heights or food. I've hiked the Grand Canyon, gone sky diving, cuddled a baby wolf, and now my latest venture consists of designing and planning a large wedding involving color, DIY details, love, and marrying my best friend.
I’ve always dreamed of having an outdoor wedding ceremony, so finding a venue with the perfect outdoor location was crucial in my early planning. We checked out banquet centers that had small gazebos. We checked out golf courses with their little designated wedding greens. We even checked out a fishing and hunting building, which had a beautiful outdoor space but a not-so-beautiful interior. From what was within our budget, everything felt like a little manicured garden with flowers here and a white gazebo there and a nude female fountain right over yonder. They were all pretty in their own sense, but it all felt so artificial and forced to me. It just wasn’t my cup of tea, so the search expanded to involve parks. Some of the parks we looked at would not accommodate a wedding very well, and others still had too much of a manicured feel.
And then we found it. A small park tucked away on a rural road. Set aside from the main park area was a lower grove designated for special events, complete with a large wooden trellis with vines clinging to its structure. There were winding paved walkways, a well maintained pavilion building with overhang areas, and enough trees to make a squirrel gleeful. But best of all? There was a natural spring on site, which fed a natural stream that meandered through the park. There were flowers and plants and all sorts of vegetation, and while the park does maintain the greenery, the landscaping is minimal so everything looks oh so natural. Perfectperfectperfect. After scoping out the spot with Mother Bunting and Daddy Bunting, we returned later with Mr. Bunting and he gave full approval.

Age and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography Student
Engagement Date: February 14, 2010
Wedding Date: January 2011
Venue: Gardens of the World
About Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.

We're keeping our wedding close to home---the venue isn't very far from our house, and we live within walking distance of 6 bridal salons. I'm using the wedding as an excuse to try out every craft project I possibly can, with the endless help and support of my fiance.

Mrs. Macarons, Tampa
Age and Occupation: 26, Graphic Designer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Renaissance Man
Engagement Date: September 12, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2011
Venue: Lange Farm
About Me: I'm creative at heart and a graphic designer with an unhealthy obsession with type. I love roller coasters, spicy foods, and a good glass of Crianza. We’re planning a soft and lovely vintage-meets-modern wedding in a state that’s known for its beaches, glitz and glam. I have a ton of DIY projects and lots of little details I’m dying to share and can't wait to celebrate with our closest friends and family.
Mr. Macarons and I are big time foodies. We’ve both traveled a lot, the mister far more than me, so we have pretty extensive palates. An average week’s meals could consist of bún thit nùóng, bulgogi, patatas con chorizo, madras curry, and maybe a little homemade udon when the temperature starts to drop. We’re always on the hunt for new places to eat, and if it’s a new cuisine, say Vietnamese, we make it a point to try every item on the menu and not to just stick with our safe bets.
So it should come as no surprise that we’re not fans of the average catering favorites. We wanted a menu that reflected our varying tastes and travels, but was still accessible to all of our guests.
My searches were coming up short, and then one caterer in particular came highly recommended. We’ll call him Foodie X. According to his website, he prides himself on custom menus based on your tastes and budget. Foodie X is also all about being upfront and honest about cost.
So I gave it a shot. I sent Foodie an initial email outlining the details about how many people we’d be expecting, as well as our budget. I told him we’d prefer a plated meal but we’d do stations if it’s all our budget allowed. I also gave him a little background info on the places we’ve traveled and some of our favorite dishes.

Engagement Date: December 1, 2009
Wedding Date: October 2011
Venue: Barn at Valhalla
About Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!
Reminder: this event is tomorrow! Hope you can make it!

Mrs. Cardigan, Austin
Age and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education Teacher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems Analyst
Engagement Date: August 16, 2009
Wedding Date: January 2011
Venue: Vintage Villas
About Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
I’ll admit, I was concerned about our photo booth. I worried that it would be in the way, I worried that our guests wouldn’t be interested, and I just worried all around about the photos that we’d get (or maybe I should say lack of photos?)
However, I am so, so, so glad we did it. Our photo booth photos are some of our favorites from the day, and when we’re looking through them it’s clear that our guests loved participating in it.
As much time as I spent dancing (which was a lot) I spent a ton of time in the photo booth. I wanted to be sure I had photos with everyone I could possibly get photos with, and I’m so glad that I made sure to spend a lot of time there, because I really cherish the photos that we have.
These photos don’t need a lot of narration, so let’s just get to it!

Mrs. Candy Apple, Princeton Junction, NJ/ Seattle, WA
Age and Occupation: 26, Project Editor
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Attorney
Engagement Date: May 9, 2010
Wedding Date: August 2011
Venue: St. Joseph's Parish, Seattle Tennis Club
About Me: I am a Pacific Northwesterner, born and bred. I have lived in many cities---Santa Clara, Durham (England); Florence; Boston; Princeton Junction---but my heart will always be nestled up near the Cascades and Olympics, which is why we are holding our wedding there. I am a bookworm and a History nerd: I love that my life consists of books, books, and more books, since I work in Publishing! Recently, all waking time not consumed by work and my daily commute has been overtaken by wedding planning. Well, that, and watching Premier-League soccer. There is nothing I love more than a good Tana French mystery, traveling to new places, Anthropologie shopping sprees, Iittala dishware, Kate Spade shoes, impeccable typefaces (think: Archer), and a nice English ale (hellooo, Old Speckled Hen!). Oh, and did I mention my obsession with wedding blogs? Yeah, there’s that too. Join Mr. Candy Apple and me as we prep for our wedding, and, more importantly, our marriage!
Oh, you didn’t get enough shoes with the oh-so-darling, incredibly sparkly and bow-y reception shoes that I showed you? You want more, shoes, bows, and sparkles, do you? So do I, my friends. So do I.
That’s right - I have two pairs of shoes for my wedding day. You know, because I’m totally not a shoe person. Oops. But something about this wedding made me feel all girly and into shoes, so I decided that I need both heels and flats. Obviously.

I actually bought these shoes before I received the flats from Mr. CA, and had been coveting them from afar (aka drooling over them online) for quite some time before I bit the bullet and bought them.

Ms. Gazelle, Calgary/Vancouver
Age and Occupation: 32, Engineer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Technology Analyst
Engagement Date: September 3, 2010
Wedding Date: July 2011
Venue: Brock House Restaurant, Vancouver
About Me: I am a marathon runner, cyclist, Ironman triathlete and beautiful shoe fiend who also loves kicking back and watching Glee. I grew up a bit of a nomad as I traveled around the world with my family, living everywhere from Australia to England to South America and Indonesia. I finally settled in Calgary a few years ago and met Mr. Gazelle who loves me even though we cheer for different hockey teams. We are planning a bit of a destination wedding in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia and we can’t wait to share the day with our close family and friends.
I’ve been hyperventilating a bit this week. We ordered the less expensive version of Mr. Gazelle’s wedding band off the internet. It was now in the hands of USPS and Canada Post and was scheduled to arrive in the first week of June. And Canada Post served notice to strike later this week. I had visions of Mr. Gazelle’s second wedding band sitting in some postal facility for months on end, well past our wedding day. Would his ring arrive in time?
Imagine my relief when the ring showed up in our mail box yesterday, just in the nick of time!

Age and Occupation: 27, Communications Aficionado
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Publisher
Engagement Date: July 21, 2010
Wedding Date: September 2011
Venue: Chicago Illuminating Company
About Me: I’m a Southern lady living in the big city of Chicago. Well, lady may be a stretch, but I’m working hard to keep some Virginia charm in our sleek, urban, wedding-palooza! I’m addicted to marathons, not-so-famous bands, Chicago restaurants, and Mark Twain. I cry during SPCA commercials, and I think LOST was the best show to ever hit television. Mr. S and I met at a classy college mixer and, 7 years later, he’s still by my side. He’s the only child, laid back, free spirit... I’m the oldest of five kids, type-A, organizer. It doesn’t work on paper, but we’ve never paid attention to that stuff anyway. Somehow it works. And like they say, sometimes when you know…you just know.
Ohhhh, you guys, look what came in the mail the other day!

Hey, that’s a letter with a picture of Sparks and me on the stamp! How cool! And…

Mrs. High Wire, Dallas
Age and Occupation: 23, Legal Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Director of Communications
Engagement Date: October 9, 2010
Wedding Date: September 2011
Venue: Clark Gardens
About Me: My loves include yoga, anything spicy, our eccentric cat, our rambunctious dog, and Mr. High Wire, of course! Like the steadiness act of the tightrope walker, this gal is busy balancing life while planning a wedding to the man of her dreams. We’re hosting a laid-back, vintage-inspired, bird themed wedding with heavy doses of love, good eats (did someone say tacos and margaritas?), and endless Texas charm. Mr. High Wire and I are so happy to have you along for the walk across the tight rope.
We chose a pretty specific theme for our engagement session, but this post is full of plenty of good tidbits of things you can do to prepare for your session, themed or not. Nerves begone! (I always like to prepare and learn as much as I can to help with any anxiety.)
I really am so thankful that my wonderful fiancé indulged me in my fantasy of pretending to be an engaged couple from the 1950s for our engagement-photo session. There was potential for that idea to look really cheesy, I’ll admit it. However, I had full faith in our wonderful photographer (Joy Neville Photography) and knew she could take that vision and do it right.
In the week leading up to our shoot, we made sure to discuss the final necessary details with our photographer, such as meeting place, time, who needed to bring what, etc. Then, before I started shopping for potential props, I took a look in our own apartment to find things that matched the theme, but also happened to have meaning to us (which was a suggestion from our photographer).

One of the first craft projects I took on besides the save the dates was making a feathery, flowery clip to wear in my hair on our wedding day. I know you haven’t seen my dress, but I’m keeping it a secret as Mr. Macarons checks the blog and has almost become as bad as me when it comes to surprises. So my accessories and other frilly things will just have to do for now.
Anyway, I had a love affair with Fay and Lyla by Lo Boheme.

Mrs. Funnel Cake, Zürich, Switzerland/Columbus, Ohio
Age and Occupation: 24, Visual Communication Designer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Application Engineer
Engagement Date: May 30, 2010
Wedding Date: October 2011
Venue: Catholic church followed by a botanical conservatory
About Me: I'm an American designer who moved to Switzerland for love after a fairytale beginning at the top of the Eiffel Tower. I love travel, photography, museums, learning German so I can speak with my mother-in-law, cooking (eating), cuddling, and I'm not afraid to try something new even if it terrifies me. My Swiss/Brazilian man and I are both down to earth people planning a traditional Catholic wedding in my hometown with some quirky cultural exceptions to reflect our different backgrounds. We look forward to celebrating with friends and family from all over the world in a classic, sophisticated fusion of heritage and love.
May 30th marked our engage-iversary, so I think the story of our proposal is a little overdue. After such a romantic beginning to dating, Mr. Funnel Cake will tell you we had an anticlimactic proposal, but I still think it was romantic.
At this point in Swiss-visa-land, I was working as a designer with a 12-month temporary permit that was able to be extended an additional six months. Mr. Funnel Cake and I traveled to Brazil together in April 2010 for his cousins’s wedding. I was lucky enough to go for two-and-a-half weeks and meet lots of Mr. FC’s Brazilian side of the family, who were so very welcoming and nice despite my inability to speak Portuguese.
