About Mrs. Pony

Accessory Indecision

July 1st, 2011 @ 4:33 pm by Mrs. Pony

Yesterday I had my first dress fitting, which was super exciting (and made me feel super productive even though I just stood in front of a mirror and lifted my arms a couple of times), but it reminded me that I am utterly confused about how to complete my wedding look.

I’ve showed you my shoes, we’ve discussed earring options (which I’ve almost made a decision about thanks to all of you), and I’ve shared some other accessory inspiration that made my heart beat a little faster, but making final decisions is a lot harder than I imagined it would be.

As a reminder, this is what my dress looks like:

But first, time to go Mr. Pony. Don’t make me an angry Pony.

So, my dress (I decided not to post pictures of me in my dress before the wedding because I’m lame and I forgot to take pictures at the fitting):

Because my dress is quite simple, I don’t want to take away from it by piling on the accessories. But earrings alone don’t seem enough either. Since we’re getting down to the wire, these decisions are becoming more and more pressing. And I am coming to you ladies (and stylish gents?) yet again for assistance.

If I decided to add a necklace, I imagine it would be something delicate and understated so it doesn’t take away from the detail around the neckline of my dress.

Something dainty like this is what I am thinking:

Or I could take the opportunity to show off my love for the Hive:

I seriously might buy this anyway. And wear it every day. Necklace from Etsy seller Annekiel

Or I could add a bracelet, like this one I’ve been swooning over for a few weeks:

Bracelet from Tejani

One of my friends mentioned that a bracelet could get caught and snag my dress, which terrifies me, so I can’t quite bring myself to buy this bracelet even though I love it (someone tell me she was crazy and this would never happen, or did it happen to you? I need to mentally prepare for all possibilities).

And then there are hair accessories. Hair flowers, while lovely, don’t really fit the idea I have for my overall wedding look and I plan on wearing a veil, so additional hair accessories seem superfluous. But I can’t get pretties like these out of my head:

Accessory Indecision : wedding bloomington jewelry wedding dress Haircom haircom

Via Etsy seller lolasJewelry

Accessory Indecision : wedding bloomington jewelry wedding dress Haircom01 haircom01

Via Etsy seller RomancingTheBling

And now I’m back to my perpetual state of utter confusion where I endlessly search for accessories on the internet with no real idea of what, if anything, I should be searching for and ultimately buying.

Can you help a girl out?

I hate to say it, but jewelry can definitely snag on a dress.

One thing you can do to see if it will: run it over a tie. Most men’s ties are similar to satin-y dress materials. If it snags on the tie, beware. You can get a men’s dress tie at Goodwill or Value Village for a buck or two.

With that neckline, my only real comment about the jewelry (I think you can do LOTS of things with it, beautifully) is to make sure and keep track of where jewelry is going to sit relative to your collarbone. If you have a necklace that sits high, it might make the space between itself and your neckline look immense; if you have one that sits low, it might look really boobtacular. (Long y-necklaces with dangly bits are kind of difficult, for that reason.)

Necklace and hair comb! I love the blingy hair combs and I think the really subtle necklaces go great with this dress. Then you won’t have to worry about snags either! :)

I definetly think earrings and a necklace are a must! They would complete your look so much. I would add a bracelet too–I’m doing it all haha

I wore a bracelet and never had any problems with it besides me not being able to figure out the latch. It never got caught on my dress!

earrings and neckalace!!!! Go with that. Bracelet you can do like really simple bangles (smooth) wont snag the dress… Very simple and understated look. your dress is amazing and you dont need alot. Simple goes a long way. YOU WILL BE BEAUTIFUL

I forgot how stunning your dress is - such a beautiful choice! I love the idea of either of those stunning hair combs with a simple single pearl drop necklace and a four or five-strand pearl bracelet (maybe with a crystal embellishment?) - um, I might like pearls….! Can’t wait to see what you choose!

I’m kind of in love with that bracelet! I like the idea of the bracelet and hair comb, but I’m biased, as that’s similar to what I did. :)

Can you bring some accessories to try on with the dress to see what you like?

I think it’ll be too much with a hair comb in addition to the earrings. Also, while that heart necklace is super cute, I don’t think it really goes with the earrings you’ve been considering. What about a drop solitare gem?

I would skip the bracelet, I don’t think it really goes with the dress. A dainty necklace and some bling in the hair would be fun though!

I love the necklace + hair comb combination! I don’t usually wear bracelets, so unfortunately have no idea snagging would be a problem. :(

I vote for the necklace and haircomb! I’m afraid of bracelets for the same reason. Plus, your dress is so lovely that I really doubt your accessories will take away from it!!

I think you should do a bracelet and a headpiece. The detailing at the top of the dress makes its own statement and a necklace may just take away from it. But towards the middle of the dress (where your hands would hang), it’s very simple, so a bracelet would be nice. Have you ever thought about pearls? They’re simple & elegant and would go REALLY well with your dress!

I vote bracelet. I can’t imagine it would snag the dress but I am not mentally prepared for that option. I completely support your decision to buy the horse shoe necklace to wear every day!

I voted for blinging it up but honestly, the bracelet could snag - my pick would be haircomb and necklace.
