About Miss Snapdragon

So we’re engaged. Now, what?

I’ve been through this whole wedding planning thing before. I am well-versed in Wedding World: where vendors play on your every emotion, drama follows you like a rabid chimp, and somehow spending 300 hours crafting pocketfold invitations that are exactly the correct shade of blue is normal. I have been to Wedding World, and it scares me.

Bossyboots and I took our time to enjoy being engaged at first; but after about a month, we realized that we actually needed to get this wedding thing on the road! We made our decision in true The Price is Right fashion:

In Which We Decide to Wed... : wedding dallas relationships Finishedpir FinishedPIR

(Source / Adjusted by me)

DOOR #1 - the Vegas/courtroom/teeny teeny teeny route. Door #1 was quite tempting. My grandmother (who I take after) got married in Vegas. I could buy a fancytimes dress, go nuts, gamble away my money on slots instead of cocktail napkins, and surprise everyone! I actually love this idea, but we both knew we’d regret not sharing this huge life moment with our huge families (and friends that are like family). No to Door #1

DOOR #2 - a super small bbq-style, midday backyard sort of affair. Well, we’re getting married in TX because most of my siblings are severely disabled and can’t travel, which means 90% of our guest list is travelling from Chicago. Bossyboots and I felt funny asking people to buy an expensive plane ticket for a casualish party. Great idea, if we didn’t have so many peeps flying in long-distance.

DOOR #3 - Whole hog. Fancy dresses, tuxes, nighttime, plated dinner, fluffy frosty cake, uplighting, etc.

We chose Door #3. Yes, we did.

In the end, we really wanted everyone we love around us for this day. Those people will be travelling a long, long way. Also, we love a party. Allow me to illustrate with this high-tech graph:

In Which We Decide to Wed... : wedding dallas relationships 23 2

See, the choice was clear. Door #3 it is! However, we will be PURCHASING the pocketfolds this time. Read my lips, and not in the George Herbert Bush way.

Which door was right for you?

Door #3 is very tempting. Pocketfolds as a DIY are not.

Door #3, also mostly due to the guilt of having people travel so far. You have to give them a good show if they make the effort, plus it will be really pretty too :)

Hahaha, omg… DIY pocketfolds no no. We were so lazy about our invites. Sort of. But not really.

(Door #3 for us as well). :)

My sweetie wanted Door #3 and I wanted Door #1 but with a 2 week trip in Europe instead of gambling in Vegas soooooooo in the interest of future marital harmony we compromised and went with Door #2
