About Mrs. Funnel Cake

Moving onward with the frustrating engagement ring search, we finally went to Örlikon, a suburb of Zürich where Mr. Funnel Cake grew up, and visited a small jewelry store Mr FC heard about from his father.

Engagement Ring: It's Your Decision : wedding columbus rings Fiechte fiechte

After we waved away the typical Meister rings everyone wanted to pawn off on us, they brought out the usual five “alternative rings” and surprisingly… they had something I liked!

I tried on a .12 carat 5-stone ring similar to the larger .5 carat version I liked with the killer 1500CHF price tag. It was “klein und fein” as I had requested and it was only 500CHF. Score.

But now I was torn between sizes. I really liked the .5 carat, but it was SO expensive and at the same time… my diamond demon thought maybe .12 was too small. I really wished there was an in-between ring with .25 carats, the same as my mother’s ring, but alas there was really not much choice to be found around Zürich.

Mr. Funnel Cake told me I could either have the smaller ring before I left for the US or I could wait a couple months and he’d get me the bigger one. It was my choice. Super.

Honestly, I still felt bad that I was asking him to buy me two rings when he wasn’t accustomed to it and Mr. Funnel Cake still thought the wedding ring should be worth more sentimentally and monetarily. I was so eager to be “100% properly engaged” before I visited home that I decided to ask for the more affordable ring. I was too impatient to wait and Mr. Funnel Cake seemed so much happier with the price of the .12 carat ring.

We ordered the ring and when it came in, Mr. Funnel Cake kept it a secret. He waited until the anniversary of our first kiss at the Eiffel Tower to take me out to our balcony, get down on one knee again and ask if I still wanted to marry him. Of course I said “Yes!” again, and then Mr. Funnel Cake asked “Uh, which finger do you want the ring on again?” Silly Mr. FC. He’s so sweet.

So without further ado, here is my “klein und fein” ring!

It’s so dainty and beautiful! I think it looks lovely on you! I’m glad that you were both happy with your decision, it’s a beautiful ring! Mr. D got me a place-holder ring, so we are currently in the process of getting me a new one, so I did not get to choose my ring- though I still love it for sentimental reasons :)

i love how delicate it is! Even though you were limited in your selection, I think your ring is very beautiful! More so than the gaudy rings I’ve seen on the market these days. Some of those rings cost more than my whole wedding!

Oh, wow. That’s really gorgeous, and I think the small size is what makes it so… it reminds me of some of those filigree detailed bands, but with gorgeous sparkly detail to it.

It’s so pretty and dainty! I love it :)
My FI and I went ring shopping a few weeks before he proposed (I thought it was a couple months before he planned to propose!)… We looked at several that day so he had an idea of what I liked. One was my favorite, but I didn’t dare tell him that because it was the most expensive one! It ended up being the one he chose… He said he chose it because he wanted the best for me :)

Your ring is really cute. I like this design and the thin band. I’m all down for smaller rings. I think they’re really dainty and simple. I did get to choose my ring and I don’t think there’s anything less magical about getting to do so.

Awww - that’s absolutely beautiful - it looks so delicate!

I also got to choose my engagement ring - DH proposed with his great-grandmother’s diamond. There’s a long story about his mom, grandma and physiotherapist arguing about whether it should be set in a ring for the proposal: he decided to put it in a cheap setting to propose with (about three sizes too big!), and then we went to a jewelry designer and created our own ring set for the stone. Sadly, he didn’t ‘re-propose’, but it was pretty special nonetheless!

It’s lovely! I did get to select my ring. Hubby-to-be said since the ring was mine to wear, and they aren’t exactly inexpensive, I should select the ring to ensure it is 100% what I want. Not that I’d be disappointed with his selection but if we were spending that kind of money I best be completely thrilled.

My FI took me ring shopping a few months before he proposed. He asked me to rank my top 3 so I did but I told him they were in no particular order. He ended up getting me the ring I reeeeally wanted! I guess he just knew :)

I love your ring. It looks great on your finger and it’s sooo pretty!
