From DIY and Back Again

July 5th, 2011 @ 9:48 am by Miss Snapdragon

Bossyboots’ and my biggest concern when we decided to have The Big Wedding was avoiding unnecessary stress. For me—and this is coming from an A1 crazy crafter—DIY tends to be a huge source of stress. Out in the real world, plenty of events employ some sort of DIY element. Weddings are different because… it usually ends up being just the bride doing the work. And not from a lack of offers to help. Your mom offers—we refuse because we don’t want to be an imposition. Our sisters offer to help—we refuse because we want that bow tied just so. Our bridesmaids and friends want to help—we say no because we don’t want others to see The Wedding Stuff Room in our houses (you’ve got one, I know you do…). Even our grooms offer to help… well, OK, they can help. Until he spills coffee on my 110lb Crane Lettra paper. Then he has to get out!!!

My point to Bossyboots was… I did not want to take on a part-time job known as 1,000 Wedding Craft Projects. Neither did he. I bet you know what comes next, right?

We started talking about invitations. Beautiful, luscious invitations. The thing is…I draw maps for my friends in my spare time, and I have opinions.

Bossyboots is also a designer of his own sort and a man of opinions. We have this vision of pocketfolds with a hand painted print on the inside, a double sided painted map, etc., etc. I have yet to find such a thing out there for anything resembling my meager “wedding paper” budget. It definitely exists, but only for a million trillion dollars. I have a VISION, people. I love invitations, and I have a VISION.

So… that Invitation Vision has earned itself the one and only spot on my DIY wedding list:

I can’t help it. I’m a masochist.

What about you—are you an invitation masochist, too? Group hug.

*We are still purchasing the pocketfold part—Bossyboots and I stand firmest of firm on this point!

haha, I’m glad you are limiting your list, it will help you keep your sanity.

On a separate note, your illustration is fantastic! You could do that for a living.

I think it’s great that you’re keeping the DIY list so small! And I’m in love with your maps, so I can’t wait to see how your invitations come out!

I think keeping your DIY list small is a great idea, that way you can put a lot of love into the invitations and hopefully relax about everything else! Also, your map is fabulous! You’ve got awesome skills girl!

Ms. Snap - I just spent the morning going back and reading through all your adventures on weddingbee (you know…inbetween work projects) and you’ve got me hooked! can’t wait to read more :)

also, we bought our pocketfolds on paperandmore.com and they were beautiful! high quality, cheap and fast shipping ($3.99 for your whole order!) and they have some beautiful colors (we did the steel grey metallic and got tons of compliments). highly recommend checking it out!
