Mrs. Hippo's Picture
Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
About Mrs. Hippo

With my hair and makeup finished, it was time to put on the dress that had been hanging in the window all morning. I held the dress up from the front and Mama Hippo did the honors of zipping it up while the bridesmaids and house party looked on.

I have to say, I really loved my dress. It had just enough bling to feel special, yet was modern and elegant… and (bonus!) didn’t cost a million dollars. When I put it on that morning, I was so excited to wear it all day and even more excited to show it to King Hippo. Since we opted to not do a first look (as discussed here and here), it was going to be a long wait.

After putting on the gown, I moved on to accessories—earrings, bracelet and necklace.

And then it was time to put on the most uncomfortable shoes in the world. Now, I mentioned the shoes I wanted to wear and had spent a considerable amount of time breaking in here and here, but they ended up being too tall for my dress when I went in for a fitting, so I made a shoe substitution a couple of weeks before the wedding. Thinking I would be smart and save suitcase space, I left the new shoes in Dallas the weeks before the wedding… and thus, no breaking in. Big mistake. I had no idea how uncomfortable the shoes were, and it only took me about 15 minutes in them to realize that it was going to be a long night. I kept them on through our first dance, but took them off immediately afterwards for a more comfortable alternative (a.k.a. flip flops).

Dress? Check.

Earrings? Necklace? Bracelet? Check.

Shoes? Check.

With everything in place (or so I thought!), it was time to take portraits.

You look gorgeous you have a classic elegance about you that is amazing and even though they are the “shoes of death” they really do look FIERCE (as Tyra Banks would say) but YAY for back-up flop flops.

That …or so I thought sounds like some foreshadowing to me! Is there a garter missing from that equation?

You look BEAUTIFUL Mrs. Hippo!

Thanks ya’ll!

@Ms.Snax: The necklace and bracelet was actually one of my “something borrowed” but it came from the dress shop I got my gown in Dallas. The earrings were from Sam Moon, a huge discount costume jewelry kind of place in Dallas.

@mrsbowieii: You are too sweet! You also made me laugh ’cause I just mentioned Tyra in tomorrow’s blog post!

@Millie: Hi Millie. My jewelry was from the shop in Dallas where I bought my dress, although it was really borrowed from a friend. The earrings were from a different shop in Dallas that carries tons of costume jewelry called Sam Moon.

@Ms October: You are my new best friend. I was doing some serious weight lifting before the wedding, so I’m glad you think it paid off. THANK YOU!!!
