About Contests

Congratulations to our winners:

~~~
Recently @dove tweeted a contest for brides to win the chance to have celeb stylist Gretta Monahan perfect their wedding day hair. Amanda from Georgia won because she saw @weddingbee’s retweet of the contest! Congrats to Amanda!
And while Amanda scored her perfect wedding day hairstyle, Dove wants you to have perfectly soft wedding day hair as well! They’re giving away 10 sets of their new Nourishing Oil Care collection to 10 lucky Weddingbee readers!
Dove Nourishing Oil Care Collection Giveaway! :  wedding features Dovecollageupdate dovecollageupdate
Amanda let us know how her big day went, including tips on communicating your wedding day hairstyle to your stylist—check out the pics above and our interview below!
How did you learn about the Dove contest?
I actually started following @Weddingbee on twitter. I came across the ad and replied back immediately thinking my chances were probably not so good. Two weeks later, after a horrible hair trial, I found out I had won and was totally elated!!
What are some of your favorite online wedding planning resources?
I religiously follow Weddingbee for DIY tips and moral support. It was a great resource for me to talk to other ladies during the planning process.
What’s your everyday hair style?
I love easy. With the humidity in the South, I find myself pulling it back into a cute ponytail most days.
What’s your overall wedding look?
I was going for elegant and classy. My dress was a modern corseted a line (Maggie Sottero Shelby) and I went with a modest cuff style crystal bracelet and drop crystal earrings.
How did you communicate with Gretta what you wanted for your wedding day hairstyle? Do you have any tips for other brides and communicating what you want out of your hairstyle for your wedding?
Gretta and I did not have a trial, but I wasn’t worried in the least. I am very easygoing so I sent pics of the look I was trying to achieve. I wanted something that was unique but still true to my style so that I wouldn’t have mirror shock once it was completed. I got way more than what I asked for with Gretta. She was excited to get her hands on with my hair and jumped right in. I loved it so much when I saw the final product that I cried. I felt so glamorous and beautiful, and thanks to Dove’s team, Gretta, and her wonderful assistant, I felt like the most beautiful bride ever.
The most important piece of advice that I can give you is stay true to your style. Your future husband wants to see you walking down the aisle, not a Hollywood version of someone that looks like you. I achieved that with the help of Gretta and felt amazing!
~~~

A big thank you to Amanda for letting us know how her day went and for sharing her pictures with us.

Dove has sooo many awesome products. My secret isn’t really a secret! I just was/condition it on a bi-nightly/nightly routine and brush it before and after washing. (I do braid my hair while it’s wet, which I’m pretty sure is a no-no, but it keeps it from tangling while I sleep…)Usually if I braid my hair after brushing it while wet, it has few to NO tangles the next day!

I mix anti-friz creme and gel together to tame my naturally wavy hair.

Soooo stunning Amanda! While I’m at work thinking of it (just did it at my desk, haha)…I’m loving all the braided styles coming back. Whenever I get flyaways (southern girl again) and just need the front layers back/disguised a bit at work I’ll make a few smaller braids, then weave them in and out of non braided hair for a peekaboo effect then pin them. Saves a humidity ridden style in a pinch and keeps flyaways out of my face if I get into intense research at work.

ooo. I forgot to tell my secret. (p.s. my fi is a dove fanatic). This isn’t really a secret…more like my routine. I wash my hair every other day to keep from having to blow dry everyday. This keeps my hair healthy and with less split ends. I’ll also wet and “scrunch” on my off days for a fun beach-hair look. :)

I do hair masks once a month to try to keep my ends from splitting. It’s a tough battle, as i have very long hair, so some new Dove products to try would be fabulous!

My secret is jojoba oil. Before I wash my hair, I always make sure to work a tablespoon of it through my hair and massage it onto my scalp, and leave it for at least 30 minutes. It leaves my hair SO soft and shiny. Even after blow-drying and straightening, it’s still soft and smooth.

I end my showers with a quick rinse of cold water for my hair! Supposedly it seals the cuticles and I can definitely see more shine! Plus, it always wakes me up a little! Love this idea, I’m always looking for more tips! Thanks!

My secret is massaging my scalp with shampoo TWICE every other day. Not really a secret but it seems to keep my hair healthy and with very few split ends.

I wish I had some great tips, but mostly I just try to not shampoo or blow dry too often to keep my hair healthy to maintain its shine.

Gorgeous hair Amanda! My hair care secret is dry shampoo. I have super oily hair so this helps on the off days when I don’t have the time or energy to do a full blow out.

I use a blue shampoo that helps cut the orange out of blinde (dyed) hair. Otherwise, your light golden blonde color typically starts to get a disctinct orange tint to it a few weeks after coloring. You apply the blue color shampoo and let it sit for 5 mintutes 3 x’s/week.

My hair care secret is to leave my conditioner in my hair while I shave my legs.

My secret is I shampoo and condition every other day. Not so much a secret, but my hair has been so much healthier since I started doing that! I have a feeling anti-frizz cream might become my new secret! :)
