About Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich

I still need to scan some pictures from my dress-shopping excursion, so we are going to start with dressing the bridesmaids!

Our colors for the wedding are navy, gray, white, khaki, and a splash of orange. I wanted the Sammie BMs to think, “Hey! I could always shorten this and wear it again!” Just kidding. But I did want them to be able to pick their own price point and a dress they would not be horrified to wear. So I am letting them choose their own knee-length dress in navy! I figure navy blends together well and there are not that many shades of navy so there shouldn’t be a problem matching.

I love that the second photograph appears to be completely different dresses and not just mismatched necklines. Irregardless (it’s a word!), I heart them all!

While I was incredibly busy at work one day, I took a fast-as-lightning break to look for navy dresses. I told my lovely ladies that they could pick whatever they wanted but I wanted to send them just a couple of ideas. Everyone loves helpful suggestions, right?

Of course there is always the mecca of bridesmaids’ dresses, J.Crew. I will have to wait I guess to see what they pick!

Now I just had to figure out what to do about shoes! Should they all wear the same? All the same color? David Tutera of My Fair Wedding would be appalled if they had mismatched shoes, so I decided to find cheap shoes in a light gray. Ta-da:

The Sammie BMs are in the process of buying these $30 shoes from Payless in silver cloud. I loved the idea of flats since we are getting married in the grass and heels might be tricky. I think they are subtle enough they won’t even be noticeable, which is the look I am going for.

Did you allow your bridesmaids to chose their own dresses?

I gave each of my bridesmaids $100 to get their own dresses, with no parameters. I just wanted them to love their dress, and be able to (seriously) wear it again. Whatever colour and style they wanted to get, go for it. They are awesome women and have been wonderful in helping me with wedding plans, I didn’t want them to have to shell out money to participate in the wedding.

Own dresses, shoes, and accesories. They only had to wear the same color.

I told my girls any silver heels will do - I want their footsies to be comfortable. Love the navy!

I would have allowed it if I didn’t find an awesome deal on JCrew dresses, but they get to pick their own shoes/accessories.

I originally handed my BMs a color palette and said “go forth and shop,” but we ended up making it a group decision while shopping together! The grey and navy are going to look so sharp together. :)

I have a MOH and 2 BMs… They’re all in the same dress. MOH in purple with a jade sash and BMs in jade with a pistachio sash.
I’m giving them their jewelry (again, MOH is the same as the BMs but in a different color).
I’m giving the BMs each a headband to wear and the MOH a hair flower.
And they’re all wearing the same shoes - Silver flats from Payless. With the BOGO 1/2 off sale and a coupon, they were less than $15 each.

My bridesmaid’s are also picking thier own dresses…in navy! :) I agree with you that choosing navy will allow individuality but the shad of navy isn’t drastically different. Can’t wait to see yours come together!

At first I said any black dress but now I’m loving the black convertible dresses. The best of both worlds, unique, budget friendly, sexy and reuasable.

You should totally add some kind of shoe jewelry to the flat! I think it would be really cute!

@weddingdiva-in-training: Ooooh love it!@tocarat: Agreed. There are very few ’shades’ of navy so they should go together well.

I’m loving the blue and orange is my favorite color! I can’t wait to see how these colors come together with your stationary and decorations.
