Mrs. Candy Apple, Princeton Junction, NJ/ Seattle, WA Age and Occupation: 26, Project Editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Attorney Engagement Date: May 9, 2010 Wedding Date: August 2011 Venue: St. Joseph's Parish, Seattle Tennis Club About Me: I am a Pacific Northwesterner, born and bred. I have lived in many cities---Santa Clara, Durham (England); Florence; Boston; Princeton Junction---but my heart will always be nestled up near the Cascades and Olympics, which is why we are holding our wedding there. I am a bookworm and a History nerd: I love that my life consists of books, books, and more books, since I work in Publishing! Recently, all waking time not consumed by work and my daily commute has been overtaken by wedding planning. Well, that, and watching Premier-League soccer. There is nothing I love more than a good Tana French mystery, traveling to new places, Anthropologie shopping sprees, Iittala dishware, Kate Spade shoes, impeccable typefaces (think: Archer), and a nice English ale (hellooo, Old Speckled Hen!). Oh, and did I mention my obsession with wedding blogs? Yeah, there’s that too. Join Mr. Candy Apple and me as we prep for our wedding, and, more importantly, our marriage!
About Mrs. Candy Apple

I mentioned in my last post that I went through a brief invitation hiatus after Mr. CA and I made the decision that Rifle Paper Co.’s invitations were out of the running. However, I did bounce back eventually—mainly out of necessity, as we were getting closer and closer to the wedding, and I had no idea what to do about invitations! So, I moved on, and found lots and lots of invitation inspiration.

Want to take a peek? My first light-bulb “a ha!!” moment came through a site that I visit every day. Etsy. Curious?

Inspiring the Invitations, Part II : wedding invitations seattle stationery Default default true?

Yep, that’s right. It’s the default avatar for Etsy accounts.

It makes me smile every time I log in—I haven’t had the heart to change it to an actual picture of me. I actually filed this inspiration away in my mind long before our wedding invitations came up—I knew that I loved silhouettes, and the whole old-world feel that I got from them. However, I was not sure exactly how they could fit into our wedding until I ran across this beautiful image:

Another “a ha!!” Beautiful, fun silhouettes offered the personalized aspect that I so loved, but they were a bit more formal and elegant than the custom, folksy drawings that I had been coveting. So I dug some more into the internets and found oodles of inspiration.

I absolutely loved the silhouettes. They were beautiful, and old-fashioned looking—very Victorian-esque, which, I suppose, is a vibe that I am going for with our wedding. (I mean, they did lots of silhouettes, didn’t they? Cameos and such? Maybe?) They just scream “classy elegant” to me. But, while they give that more vintage, classic, old-timey feel, they also allow for the option of incorporating more modern typefaces and design elements, to give it that little punch of fun. Win win, I say!

The only problems were, how the heck would I go about getting some sort of custom-silhouette work done? And would we be able to afford something along these lines? And, lastly—would Mr. CA approve?

Anyone else find themselves pulled toward the custom portrait or silhouette designs? Feel free to share your faves in the comments!

Ask Mrs. Knitting! I believe she found an Etsy artist to do the Knittings’ silhouettes for their guest “book”.

I have silhouettes sitting on a tree watching the sunset on a beach for our save the dates… I used to love the cameos when I was little, and we both love sunsets, so this is a pretty good mix of both. Not quite the vintage silhouette, but still =)

i love silhouettes on wedding invitations! our museum is at a wedding, and one theme is kind of picture frames/art, so we chose this silhouette invitation:

One of our groomsman, who also happens to be an amazing graphic designer, had been working on a silhouette project for a few years and actually already had one of my FI before he offered to help design our custom invites and wedding signs. I sent him over a picture of myself and he got it done in no time! For those interested in his project: http://www.coroflot.com/sebastian_ebarb/silhouette-project

Loooove silhouettes! I was originally going to have them on our invitations, but after playing around with them for a bit I realized that our profiles were not our most flattering angle (read: I have a big nose). I still did portraits, but they were straight-on, which doesn’t work very well as a silhouette.

If you’re still in need of a silhouette artist, I’d be happy to help! And I promise I won’t ask your arm or your leg for it.

OOooh, I can’t wait to see how this comes together! I love the look of silhouettes but since I really dislike my profile, decided against for wedding decor.

I really like that yellow letterpress one with the states under the silhouettes! I’m so excited to see what you end up with!

We got ours made by Vana at http://lepapierstudio.com. Check out the wedding invitation suite — she took our engagement pictures and chose 3 different ones and integrated them into our invites/envelopes/rsvps, with our colors of choice. She was really easy to work with. We are having a small wedding so only had to order 28 invitations, and I thought the prices were really reasonable.

I made our invites and made our silhouettes using this method:

http://www.younghouselove.com/2010/10/head-shot/

and simply plugged the finished silhouettes into our invite in photoshop.

I’m a silhouette bride too! It took the fiance a little while to see my vision, but now he’s totally excited about the personal aspects that are incorporated into the wedding. I was lucky enough to have a super savvy friend to help us out, and the invitations and other goodies have turned out awesome!

Ooh I do love the silhouettes. And that you are writing about your invites, because I hope that means we can see them unveiled soon. :D

Moments like this probably make every bride wish they had a graphic designer artist friend to design their dream invitations for them. Perhaps that’s just me? I can’t wait to see how the silhouettes get incoporated into your invites.
