Mrs. Seal's Picture
Mrs. Seal, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 25, Personal Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Sales and Support Specialist Engagement Date: December 12, 2009 Wedding Date: November 2011 Venue: Sts Peter and Paul Church/The Bently Reserve About Me: I am a goofy, wannabe crafty, well-intentioned Renaissance Woman (OK, perhaps "aimless wanderer" is a more aptly suited term for me, but hopefully you get the point)—basically I dabble in just about everything and pride myself in such. Without warning, I occasionally breakout into soulful improvised songs and interpretive dances and there's just no stopping me! As so many others before me, planning our wedding has unearthed a deep, intense passion for all things bridal and I secretly fear the day it will come to an end. Mr. Seal and I are quite the pair and life with him by my side is extremely rewarding—I am so thankful to have found him. Together we are planning a black-tie San Francisco affair for 250—light on the stuffiness and with lots of extra Seal-y flair.
About Mrs. Seal

In my last post I wrote about our See’s Candies buffet guest favors and explained the family history behind that decision. I had mentioned that there was a bit more to be told on the favor-front and I will now (finally) explain what that “bit more” is!

And this time it has to do with this pretty lady:

I was fortunate enough to have Nana in my life for eight years. During that very short time, before losing her battle with cancer in 1993, she taught me the essentials—like an appreciation for costume jewelry, how to play poker, and a passion for San Francisco sports teams.

She was a wonderfully strong-willed woman with a ton of heart. And though her life was definitely not without adversity, she took each trial and tribulation with gumption and grace.

After moving from her hometown of Georgia, she met and married my Papa Seal and the two raised their four boys in San Francisco.

For years, Nana Seal worked as a carhop at a Mel’s Drive-in.

And this, my dear friends, is where the favors come in.

Seeing as how we worked my Grandma Mary’s profession into our wedding, we’ve decided to do the same with my Nana. So, in lieu of traditional favors and in addition to the candy buffet, our guests (the smart ones that stick around) will be treated to a late-night snack courtesy of Nana.

Though they won’t be served via roller skates, towards the close of the evening, our caterer will be bringing out sliders and fries in red checkered boats.

I can’t say I knew my grandmother well or that I knew her for long, but it is with great happiness that I can say I knew her at all. And having her with us at our wedding, in any small way, warms my heart. :)

Are you having a late-night snack? How has family history influenced your wedding decisions?

I absolutely adore this idea, although the picture is making me very hungry! We’ve been trying to come up with an idea for our late-night snack and we might just have to steal yours :)

Looks so tasty and it will be a great homage to your grandmother!! Also, you look just like her, especially in the first and third pictures.

“I can’t say I knew my grandmother well or that I knew her for long, but it is with great happiness that I can say I knew her at all.” Definitely brought tears to my eyes Seal! This is a great way to honor your grandmother and make your guests really happy at the same time!

I love these ideas! Late night snacks are fun in general. But that fact that there’s so much meaning behind makes it all even better!
