About Mrs. High Wire

The Best Self

July 7th, 2011 @ 6:32 pm by Mrs. High Wire

A while back, I talked about some healthy goals I had taken on in order to be my best self for the wedding. I’ve been incorporating most of these goals in a big way (except drinking water, and I don’t even want to depress myself trying on those stupid black shorts).

Today and right now, I feel good. I want to bottle this up and tap into it whenever I need to. That’s the great thing about blogs, the opportunity to preserve the kinds of moments you want to hold on to forever.

The fact that I feel good right now is no random accident and I have to remember that. All of the books I’ve been reading, yoga I’ve been doing, and weights I’ve been lifting have helped me tremendously. I’m capable and strong and unique.

My biggest goal in all of this body-image “stuff” is finding peace with it all.

Figuring out how to find a happy middle ground between being obsessed with it all or ignoring it completely and not taking good care of myself.

I refuse to be distracted on my wedding day with negative thoughts about myself. That isn’t MY day. It is OUR day. To celebrate the best parts of each other and to enter into a lifetime commitment to one another for better or worse, no matter our physical appearance.

ALL brides are beautiful on their wedding day. Every. Single. One. Including me. Including you. There’s nothing we have to “do” to achieve that. It is natural. As long as we all feel healthy and fresh and loved on our wedding day, that’s all that matters, right? Right.

What three words would you use to describe how you want to feel on your wedding day?

Great post, I think sometimes us girls get so wrapped up in trying to be “perfect” for the wedding. I want to feel calm, confident and loved. Oh and if I can pick another I will take cool, as in temperature cool. Nothing like being over heated in a 20 pound dress.

Great post!

I think the three words I felt on my wedding day were “alive,” “loved,” and “joyful.” I couldn’t ask for more.

great look and great attitude! p.s. you look really cute in your jeans and sneakers… I wore that to work today and felt all kinds of awkward, so kudos to you for pulling it off with confidence :)

Totally agree - I have never met a bride that didn’t look radiant and joyful and beautiful on her wedding day! It’s that bride auora, so we all need to get over this prefection “standard”. Great post HW!

This is a great post, lady! It’s lovely to read about a woman who feels great about herself! Three words that I’d use to describe how I felt on our wedding day are: euphoric, beautiful, and IN LOVE! :)

I love this! I’m completely there with you! I haven’t been obsessed with my appearance for several years now (thank goodness), but I definitely want to make sure I am happy with myself on our wedding day. Just knowing I’ve made an effort to be healthy, which is what I want to do in my normal life anyway. It’s been hard living with my fiance’s parents to put in 100% of the effort because they buy the food, and I always hate leaving the dog on them if I were to go to the gym after, etc. But I’m looking forward to moving out this month and just really putting in the effort with our wedding day as a MAJOR motivation!

Getting into shape for life, and also just in time for your wedding, is a great idea. My fiance and I are trying to get back in the groove of exercising. We want to do something we can maintain past our wedding day. You’re an inspiration.
