Mrs. Hippo's Picture
Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
About Mrs. Hippo

By the time the ladies and I got to the art gallery, most of the guests had already arrived and were strolling the gallery. We decided to serve a little wine before the ceremony, so guests were able to grab a glass and look around for a bit before our house party and DOC circulated through the gallery to ask them to sit. I only learned after the wedding that the shuttle bus taking guests from the hotel had taken the long way to the gallery, so guests who arrived on the shuttle didn’t have as much time to check out the artwork before the ceremony as I had planned. Total bummer… especially since the art is divine.

Sequestered in the back of the gallery were the guys, hanging out in their movie theater-like space, and the ladies, in the art gallery’s office/storage area. Now, if you remember from this post (oh, and this one), we were going to do a ring warming right before the ceremony began as opposed to in the middle. Since the ring warming would be before the processional, the wedding party wouldn’t be present for it, so we did separate ring warmings with them. Our officiant first went to the area the guys were in and explained the ring warming to them, and then they passed our rings on the navy and yellow blocks I had made.

Our officiant then went to the girls room with the rings. I started to tell the ladies what we would be doing with the rings, but had to stop a sentence or two in. You know when your voice starts to crack and you know it’s about to be all over? Yep. That was me. Luckily our officiant took over so that I didn’t have to ball my makeup off and explained the ring warming to the girls. I have to say, seeing our wedding rings pass through the hands of my mother, sister and all my very best friends was one of the memories from our wedding I will always, always remember. We ended with a toast, some laughs and, of course, some final primping.

It was time! The house party headed out to help get our guests seated, and the big show was about to begin.

The gallery looks so awesome. I wouldn’t have thought about it, but glad that you did to include your wedding party in the ring warming before since they wouldn’t be able to do it during the ceremony.

I think it’s great that you included your wedding party since they wouldn’t be out there for the big ring warming - and I think it’s really special that you ended up getting to do a private ring warming with the wedding party!!

We didn’t do a ring warming, but I totally wish that we had. This is so beautiful! And the art at your ceremony location is great! Totally enjoying your recaps!

I still can’t get over the fact that you did your make up yourself. Your pictures are so beautiful it’s amazing. Anyhow, I love the concept of the ring warming. I was going to use it for my ceremony but I knew that most of my guests are used to long Catholic masses. It was bad enough they were outside during the heat in TX but adding a ring ceremony…. ;) Anyhow, I am loving your recaps Mrs. H!
