I am an aspiring foodie with a weak spot for the unusual and I love semi-reality food television. My other loves easily include laughing as a form of exercise, a book that I can't put down, summer baseball games, espresso with whipped cream, couch potato days and nights with the ridiculous Mr. Bacon, and our two kitties, Lincoln and Sawyer. We're planning a faux-destination wedding for 150 of our closest friends and family in the city we've both adopted as home that has a modern, yet whimsical twist and as many personal touches as we can manage.

The Beauty and the Baconator

July 11th, 2011 @ 5:30 pm by Mrs. Bacon

I could never pull off a giant yellow ballgown, but I do love myself a guy with some unruly facial hair. The Baconator decided to give himself a mustache last week; I’m charmed, clearly. That is neither here nor there.

When I chronicled through the quest to find all of our wedding vendors, I left out the very special vendor that would make sure that I looked beautiful for the whole wedding day. That’s pretty much because I was torn and not quite sure what direction I wanted to go in.

At first I figured that I’d just have all of us ladies go back to the counter at the mall where I got my makeup done for the engagement pictures. All we had to do was spend $50 a person and we got to keep the stuff, besides, I’ve been to her once and it was great. Then we started working on the morning schedule and I realized that there was no way that she could do all of our makeup before we needed to be back at the hotel at 11:30 AM. With a new plan in mind, I traipsed back to the mall to see if she’d come and do our makeup at the hotel. Nope, apparently the girl I like is only part time because she is a student and has decided to study abroad during the wedding. How rude! ;)

Instead, I talked to a new girl and she offered to do our makeup at the hotel for a slim $75 a head. But we’d clearly need a trial, first because the last time I got my make up done by some random woman at the mall and it wasn’t my fave lady, I ended up looking like a sea creature. Legit.

The ’80s Sea Creature Look is soooo hot right now, and, yes, that is bright pink lip gloss.

Figuring that her deal was the best offer I’d get, I told her I’d let her know and was on my way. In the month and a half since then, I’ve managed to complain to some fellow brides that I knew and a solution found its way into my lap. One of my most recent newlywed friends hooked me up with her makeup artist! Her prices are way more reasonable than some stranger from the mall, she’s been BFF with one of my coworkers since they were kids, my friend was totally gorgeous at her wedding AND she did my makeup trial for free! This friend of a friendor was like a godsend—I know that she’s totally going to come through on the day of the wedding.

With Flash in Natural Light

So the first pic isn’t great and my face looks all shiny because it was 93 degrees today, but you get a better idea of what the eye shadow looks like, and why the Baconator was all “Oh, that’s a lot of makeup…”

Without Flash in Natural Light

The second pic is way better, and much more important since we’re spending a bunch of hours outside in the natural light, and it’s proof that you need a heavier hand to take pro pics otherwise you get washed out.

So, hive, keep it real. What do you think?

Besides the eyeshadow, I think your skin in the first one looks much much better than the last two.

So much better than the sea creature look! (What in the world was that first girl thinking???) I love it - the lip color is great and whatever is going on with your lashes is super flirty!

The eyes and lips look great! The foundation, however, seems a bit too light: it doesn’t really match the rest of your skin tone, and in the first pic, you can see its outlines at the top of your forehead. Really sorry if that sounds too critical, but I had the same thing at my own wedding, and the outdoor photos look fantastic, but the indoor photos….oy! I look like a vampire! Pro pics are one thing, but most of the guests took photos with their own point-and-shoots (with flash on, of course), so I am terrified to think what kind of a Dracula/kabuki bride they have captured in photos!

I love the eyes! I agree with the above that maybe the foundation is a smidge too light. Maybe you could bring in your everyday foundation for the makeup artist to apply so it matches more perfectly?

Oooh, but that sea creature look is so HAWT! You could pair it with some poofy sleeves, shiny hot pink bridesmaids dresses with teal accents and have a retro wedding. Or is 2011 too early to relive 1985? :D

The 2nd look is much better. I think maybe a little more blush so you don’t look washed out, and I agree that your face is a couple shades lighter than your body (which is actually very normal in summer).

Good luck!

There are some make-up artists who will travel to you and your wedding party - and charge about $40 a person (because it’s bulk LOL) and they will do a free trail run. Love the natural look of your skin in the first one

I don’t know, I kinda feel like the effect of your face being lighter is actually being brought on by the flash. You look even Steven to me in that last pic. Which, by the way, is fan-freaking-tastic. ;)

I love the second look! The first one is a little…much for my tastes. Your skins looks so great in both though, you must have some secret you’re not sharing ;)

The first is something I’d see on some of my model friends… when they’re doing some of their more outrageous shoots, that is ;)
LOOOVE the second round! SOOOO much better than the “sea creature” make-up!

Whenever I try to put my own eyeshadow on I end up with that “sea creature” look. :P You have a beautiful smile, and I love how the second look photographs!

I love Beauty and the Beast! That’s actually the theme to my bridal shower…even though I’m really not supposed to know! =P Shhhh….

I think your eye make up in the second trial looks great! I do think you need a bit more blush. Brides need to be glowing on their wedding day! You’re going to be beautiful! =)

You look so happy :) I agree with French Manicure, just a little more pop of color on your cheeks.

The lip color stands out more in the middle pic than the bottom pic. You’ll definitely want that blushing bridal glow to stand out in your wedding photos!
