I’ve been a bwad wittle bee. We had our engagement photo session on Easter Monday back in April, and I’ve been sitting on them since then! Shh, shh, let me explain why it took so long.
We had an amazing friend in Zürich take the photos for us and he actually gave me all the raw files the same day as the shoot, but it meant I would be doing all the editing myself. (Which is good and bad for a control freak like myself.) I took the opportunity to teach myself more about raw editing in Adobe Lightroom because I usually keep to Bridge/Photoshop. I really enjoyed using the different software to experiment with the processing! It works wonders on your raw photos and helps me make photos like this pop:
With over 700 raw images to go through (woo hoo for lots of great photos!), it took me about two months to narrow them down and edit about 100 photos that have already been used for save-the-dates, invitations, profile pictures, etc. I’ve gotta admit…I absolutely love them! Mr. Funnel Cake is dreamy pants and I don’t look horrible in all of them.
Starting out in the botanical gardens in Zürich where we originally had our first meeting, we made our way down to the China garden in Zürich and through the old city. We kept our clothing choices pretty simple to try and keep the photos timeless and I donned those glass earrings I skipped during the Zivilstand. I also lent my special 90mm Canon tilt shift lens to the photographer. See if you can spot the pictures that use the blurring effect this lens creates.
Now… enough of my yappin, here they are!
One of the hard parts of being a photographer is editing… B&W or colour, shot #1 or #2? The options are endless! I think I’m relieved to know our wedding photographer will be handling this while we sit back and enjoy married life!
I loved how diverse our photo shoot was in showing Mr. Funnel Cake’s and my roots, as well as parts of the city we live in. The only thing I would have changed would be to include a “thank you” message for thank you cards. (Totally forgot that!) It was a little intimidating going through 700 photos and narrowing down which ones I really wanted to edit, but I think the hard work paid off and I’ve grown more as a photographer as well. As my friend’s first engagement shoot, I think he did a pretty amazing job. I owe him a big steak dinner!
Would you have a friend shoot your engagement photos?
