This past weekend I took a drive down to Columbus with my mom and Cherry Bomb. My grandma had requested a weekend to work on THE dress, and I was happy to oblige. After a long drive that Cherry Bomb very loudly did not enjoy the last half hour of, we arrived at Grandma’s a bit late to get any work done on Friday. So, we talked a bit, I tried on a top she had made with her pattern adjustments (it fit!), and we went to sleep so we could get an early start on Saturday.
Saturday morning we ate some breakfast and Grandma started cutting and sewing. I worked on paper flowers for the wedding while Cherry Bomb ran around playing with blocks, yelling, and otherwise being a toddler. It was around that time that my mom revealed her big secret- she’s been crocheting a shawl for me to wear at the reception! It’s really pretty, and the color she picked is a pretty perfect match with my crinoline. Mom worked on her crochet and I worked on flowers, stopping only when Cherry Bomb needed a playmate or a diaper change until lunch. I tried things on for Grandma whenever she requested, and she asked me what I thought each time. She made adjustments from there and then hid out with her sewing machine some more.
After we ate lunch, my aunt and cousin came over. My cousin has a cute squishy new baby girl, so I was excited to play with her a little bit. She also has a daughter who is a year older than Cherry Bomb, and she and Cherry Bomb had a blast running around and playing all day. It was a lot of fun to hang out with my family, and, in a surprising and delightful moment, Cherry Bomb actually showed some interest in her little baby cousin.

Not really a big deal, but she pretty much ignored her the last time she saw her, so it was nice to see her curiosity this time. Over all, the entire day was awesome. We all ate dinner together, the kids got to play together, I got some little baby snuggle time, and Cherry Bomb and I got to hang out with my grandma. Oh yeah, and I got my wedding dress mostly completed!
We got through the whole thing, but Grandma still has to make some adjustments to the top and wanted to perfect the zipper. I have to say, I was completely in love with it even without a perfect fit. She worked on it for thirteen hours on Saturday and she made so many changes to the pattern to make it fit me better and look prettier. I really can’t thank her enough for all the work she’s done. It’s beautiful and I’m thrilled. What’s that? You want a picture? Well, unfortunately, I didn’t take any. But I’m going back down in a couple weeks for finishing touches and adjustments, and I promise to give you sneak peek then.
