Mrs. Hippo's Picture
Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).
About Mrs. Hippo

As soon as the ring warming was complete, it was time for the procession to begin. The guys were lined up in the back of the gallery and made their way to the front, with King Hippo and our officiant pulling up the rear.

The Old 97’s song Question played as the wedding party processed. Play the song… you’ll feel like you were there!

Once the guys were settled at the front, with King Hippo and the officiant stationed safely on the platform, it was time for the ladies to make their entrance. The five members of the house party started, each walking down the center aisle then sitting in their designated seat near the front of the gallery. They were followed by the bridesmaids, who remained standing at the front.

Now, what you can’t see from these pictures is the shuffling/dragging/fussing that Mama Hippo and I are doing at the back of the gallery at this point. See, Mama Hippo was convinced that King Hippo could see me as we were waiting in the wings… behind the NINE ladies of the wedding party. In her attempt to “hide” me, she was trying to pull me quickly to the side while saying in a loud whisper, “He’s going to see you! We need to move!” but in a long dress with a train and shoes of death, being moved quickly with a tug wasn’t in the cards, and I nearly toppled over. I don’t know if Mama Hippo was nervous about her walk down the aisle or what, but she was really concerned about him seeing me and wanted to get me moved, stat, and I wasn’t too happy about nearly falling on my ass just moments before I was about to walk down the aisle. I mean, I was about to walk down the aisle! It’s OK if he sees me! The whole episode was completely frenzied and lasted less than a minute, but I remember saying, “Stop!!! Just. Stop!” in my angriest loud whisper. Not my proudest moment. We both shook it off, and got prepared for our grand entrance.

Anyone else have a not-so-proud moment during their wedding? C’mon… I can’t be the only one!

Hippo my dear, I booted my mother out of the bridal suite before my dress was on. So there you have it. You’re not alone. ;)

I would have been a little frazzled too, but I’m glad you were able to shake it off. I think we hid too long because we were having to high tail it through the ballroom (where the bridal party started their walk from) to get to the doors on time.

I’m sorry your mom was being so frustrating! Both my mom and my MIL were surprisingly cool … I was totally expecting SOMEONE to stress me out!
Also, I’m in love with the artwork behind the guys in that first pic. :)

Hahahaha. I told my mum in not so kind words to GET OFF MY DRESS as she was coming in to give me a hug. Awful. Your venue is so cool!

I’m glad you two were able to shake it off! Although weddings are such joyous events, they’re so emotionally charged that sometimes rhyme and reason fly out the window! My mom had her uber fussy moments, too.

I love the song your wedding party processed to. :)

I love your ceremony space, it’s so cool! Also, I definitely had a similar moment right before I walked down the aisle where I hissed at my dad to “SHUT UP” bc he kept making these stupid comments and I was trying to focus…It happens, no biggie :)

Hahaha I am sorry I’m laughing at this, I’m sure it wasn’t funny at all!! My friend was married last year and her mother escorted her down the aisle… Momma kept stepping on the bride’s dress!! My poor friend was trying to smile, but was whispering through her teeth “Ma, stop stepping on my dress!!”.
