I talk a big talk, but I know what you’re thinking: Show Me the Money!
So, without further ado, the Bacon invitations!
We picked the typewriter font to match the detail in our return address stamps. Let’s hope the Mouses RSVP! We also decided to get red envelopes to coordinate with our wedding colors rather than just using the plain white ones that came along, not to mention the positive memories I have of getting red envelopes as a child during Chinese New Year, Birthdays and Christmas!
After carefully opening the envelope, we reveal the inner packet!
These are heavily inspired by the fabulous bees that came before me: Gloss and Sprinkle. I had always known that I wanted to include bakers twine, but I couldn’t figure out how until I saw it married with a wax seal. Honestly, the baker’s twine and wax seal combination took forever to get right and the Baconator got some pretty mean blisters from some wax mishaps, but I think it was worth it… his left pointer begs to differ…

We are lucky enough to be getting financial help from both our parents for the wedding and we weren’t in love with the more traditional “the daughter of Mama and Papa Bacon is marrying the son of Future In Law Bacons,” so we wanted to have wording that was more about what we were doing. Ultimately, “Please join us as we stand to say ’I do’” really hit the nail on the head. We also didn’t want to get too casual since we are having a sit down dinner and the guys will be in tuxes, but we did want to convey the fun and playful nature of our wedding, so the mustache and kiss graphics with some more formal fonts let us toe both lines.
We kept going back and forth about how to mention on our invites that kids weren’t invited, so we settled on “Our celebration is limited to adult guests only.” That along with writing in our own guest count for each invitation, we figured that it was a tasteful way to make sure parents knew that the invite was only for Mom and Dad. (I know that our RSVP date seems early for our Sept 10 wedding, but international mail takes forever, so we wanted to be safe.) The nice thing is that with writing in the number of seats, we won’t have any awkward “Oh, so you decided to bring a plus one even though you’re single?” conversations, either.
Even though our ceremony and reception are in the same place, we wanted a way to get our hotel information to all the guests and a details card was an easy way to do it. Mama Bacon kept asking me if I was putting our registry info on the invite, but since I managed to convince her that doing so would be a big time American etiquette disaster, a link to the wedding website that housed our registry info was a great compromise.
That’s it—the whole kit and caboodle. Did your invites make you surge with pride?
