Adopting a Sweet Tradition

Now that he’s gone, we can talk about a Southern Tradition I’m totally on board with, despite not being from the South. The Groom’s Cake!

To be honest it’s something I never really considered until after our meeting with Nomeda. Our hands down favorite flavor was her European chocolate, but we didn’t make it the bottom tier because more than a handful of our guests are allergic to chocolate. So, not only is it another way I can surprise Macs, it takes care of our flavor remorse.

As far as the design was concerned, I originally thought about combining the Captain and some of his other favorite comic book characters.

I love how the artist incorporated everyone, but it’s a whole lot of color and a whole lot of cake. I also didn’t know how he’d feel about it several years from now. Maybe he’d suddenly hate the Captain? I doubt it, but I opted to go with something a little more timeless: sweets!

Aside from all things marzipan, Macs’ other favorite indulgence is the Ferrero Rocher. Totally delicious but not wedding dress figure friendly. You can’t help but eat more than one.

Nomeda is going to create a super-sized one, complete with the crinkly gold wrapper and Ferrero Rocher sticker. She’s also swapping out her usual filling for a Nutella cream, so it should taste pretty darn close to the real thing. Macs is going to flip out and I CANNOT wait. I’ve done my fair share of surprising him over the years, but I know this one will definitely take the cake.

Are you adopting any traditions just because?

Oh my word, I totally love the red velvet armadillo cake from Steel Magnolias as well! If Mr. Parasol and I could have that at our wedding, I think we’d both die happy.

Lol! Steel Magnolias is one of my favorite moves EVER. AND OMG! That Ferrero Rocher cake is going to be amazing. What an awesome idea :D Mr Seal is a big fan of nutella too—so that’s getting worked in somehow for his cake also ;)

We’re totally going with a Superman groom’s cake for our wedding. :-) I’m almost as excited about it as he is!

We had an absolutely delicious grooms cake. Beautiful. Cheesecake. We were so excited when we saw it. However, the venue shared it all out and FORGOT TO LEAVE A SLICE FOR US. It’s been two weeks and I still get steamed thinking about it. Please make sure your venue leaves you a slice or two.

First of all, the Ferrero Rocher cake is such a good idea! We used Ferrero Rochers for our place cards and I just love them. But my main point for commenting is your adorable “No Peeking” graphic. Those macarons are making my mouth water!! Yuuuum!

That cake sounds SO YUMMY!!!! I am still trying to decide whether or not to have a groom’s cake. Mr. D is from the northeast and I’m from the midwest, not places that usually have it. But they are a great way to show some personality. Hrm, choices, choices.

I have to have a grooms cake as FI does not eat cake, so for him, I am going with apple crisp, his favorite dessert. Does that count?

We actually ARE having a red velvet armadillo at our wedding! We were both born and raised here in Georgia, so it just seems apropos. I work in a bakery here in Atlanta, so one of my coworkers will be making it for us. :)

Steel Magnolias is one of my all time favorites! I agree - you cannot eat just one and that is an awesome design for a cake!

OMG THAT. SOUNDS. AMAZING! I LOVE Ferraro Rocher. Funny story though, when I was in Budapest like 2 years ago, there was massive, like 5.5 ft tall massive, wedding cake made of Marzipan! I, personally, do not like marzipan though. Also, I had no clue the groom’s cake was a southern thing!
