Drop it Like it’s Hot

July 18th, 2011 @ 9:48 am by Mrs. Sparkler

I’m slowly getting closer to completing my bridal ensemble, hive. Over the past few weeks, I’ve purchased pretty much everything I need. The only things left to buy are the shoes. But let’s save the shoe drama for another day… this post is about the veil. Yep, I finally bit the bullet and ordered a gorgeous, flowing, simple veil.

Remember the topper I was searching for? Well, that idea transformed the moment I saw a drop veil in one of my crazy Google image searches. It was perfect! Drop veils are super simple, when pulled back they are two tiers, and they come in a variety of lengths. I was sold.

GORGEOUS. You can see why they’re called drop veils. They are literally just dropped right on top of your noggin’. Usually held in place with a hat pin.

Once I knew what I wanted, I followed all the amazing suggestions you guys left in my last veil post, and headed over to Occansey designs. After a little bit of measuring, a little math, and (let’s just be honest) some guess-timating, I had a veil under construction!

I decided to go with a total length of 125 inches. When pinned at the crown of my head, it will fall 25 inches in the front (just above my bouquet) and 100 inches in the back. I left the back a little bit long because, as stated above, I have yet to find a pair of shoes (facepalm). I didn’t want the train to be too short if I decided to go with a higher heel.

Did anyone else go with a drop veil? How are you attaching yours? Hat pin? Or something else?

Oh that sounds like it’s going to be GORGEOUS! Ok, but stupid question - what exactly makes a veil a *dropped* veil? I know you said it looks like it was just dropped on your head? So is there no clip attached to it?

I found my veil the day I found my dress. When we realized the dress was perfect, my consultant said she had the perfect fingertip length veil. I thought I wanted cathedral, but I also thought I wanted a different dress. But this veil was PERFECT! And it also goes over in front of my face, which initially I didn’t think I wanted a veil to cover my face, but that was until I saw this veil. And oh it sparkles! Now I just have to wait a year to wear it =\

Yay! I wore a drop veil, too. I just put it on my head and used a hair pin. The hair pin was the hardest part as it was nearly impossible to find, but I had an old pin from a hair accessory (one of these type of things, except mine was metal, and used that. It was incredibly sturdy and I had no trouble with it falling off or sliding around.

i too wore a drop veil. so easy and simple with a raw edge it was both traditional and modern at the same time. mine was made by Jane at aMuse in Wilmington NC if there’s any crystal coast ladies looking for one.
