Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich, Washington, DC/Cape May, NJ Age and Occupation: 28, School Counselor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 40, Collegiate Athletics Engagement Date: March 27, 2010 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Congress Hall Hotel About Me: I am a school counselor who spends my day wrangling children and my nights attempting to be creative with wedding projects. My enthusiasm for each of these activities far surpasses my skill. Thank goodness Mr. Cucumber Sandwich is there to pick up the pieces and be the voice of reason about my DIY tries. I have an obsession with terrible romantic comedies (‘From Justin to Kelly’ anyone?, anyone?!?), competitive Scrabble play, and hot dogs. I could eat astronaut ice cream for every meal and can’t seem to resist buying more shoes. Our wedding is going to be a true hodge podge of semi-destination, tradition, Yuengling, New England charm, with just a dash of ‘Jersey Shore’ thrown in. It has been six years in the making and I can’t wait to marry my best friend.
About Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich

Out of Control

July 18th, 2011 @ 10:16 am by Mrs. Cucumber Sandwich

Hello, my name is Miss Cucumber Sandwich and I have invitation envy. It feels so good to say it out loud. Venue: knew I wanted to get married there since I was 16 and haven’t had a moment of doubt. Dress: knew it was perfect for me and haven’t even felt compelled to look at other dresses. Invitations: I have become the green-eyed monster!

I have absolute faith in Kyndal and I haven’t even seen our custom-designed invitations yet, but that hasn’t stopped me from going a little nuts. I barely committed to a design and two minutes later I am panicked about not liking it. Everywhere I turn, there are gorgeous invitations afoot. And the truly crazy part is my invitations could be one of them—I don’t know because I haven’t seen them yet!

What has been causing me to lose my mind?

This makes my heart go pitter patter. I love the vellum outer envelope and the twine. The swirly names, the envelope liner…swoon!

I am head over heels about this next one because all of her details went with her invitation. This is pretty much my dream: to have one cohesive element that brings the wedding together. She is living my dream.

And it just goes downhill from there. I am envious of every invitation I see. I am not discriminating at this point; I am overwhelmed with jealous.

I am completely out of control. I am hoping that by blogging about my invitation envy, it will be cathartic and I will get it under control. I think I have just made it worse.

Please tell me there have been things you were jealous of and I am not the only one?!

I still wonder “what if I’d done that” about my invitations and they were all completed and sent a month ago! I’ve heard that when you only have a couple of options you will be more satisfied with the one you choose, and this is definitely the case for me with invitations. I guess they’re probably the best wedding thing to want a little more of though since invitations are something you could have more than one of in your life (birthday parties, anniversary parties, Christmas?) whereas you will probably never wear a veil or another wedding dress…

I was the same exact way! Seriously! And who couldn’t love/drool over/obsess about Mrs. Gloss’ invites! They were a favorite of mine, as well!

I get this way with many of our wedding decisions, including invitations, but now that they are out, there’s nothing I can do about it anymore! And I love Mrs. Gloss’s invitations too, they’re so perfect!

I’m not jealous of invitations (my FI picked ours out) but I am jealous of veils. My mother went dress shopping with me and loved the veil the consultant suggested. She insisted that this would be something special between us and she would pay for it. It was sweet, but now I look at it and hate the blusher that falls to my shoulders. I’m not wearing the blusher over my face, that ship has sailed….but I don’t like the way it lays in the back. I would have preferred a much less fussy veil and when I see pictures of women wearing fingertip length plain veils clipped in the back of their hair I am sad…and envious. This is totally irrational though. I’m sure no one is going to go on and on about my veil at the wedding. Thinking back to weddings I’ve attended I don’t think I’ve ever thought. “Oh, oh…that’s too bad, a different veil would have looked better on her…” lol

I’m sure once you see your actual invitations it will be okay. The FI picked ours out, as I already mentioned, and at first I didn’t like them but they’ve since grown on me. I think he did a great job. It sounds like you may be getting a bit stressed and the invitations are the proverbial straw. How is everything else going?

Ohhhhh I love Mrs. Gloss’ invitations! We made a conscious decision to not include a million inserts in our suite, but whenever I see things like that, I wish we had a whole array like this. Especially since I <3 stationery. But yes, my advice is always… own your decisions :) I continue to see invitations I love even as ours near the date they’ll be sent out, but I still love OUR invitations!

I have dress invite, hair, and last but not least and surely not the only but engadgement photo envy at times but when I get in the zone of putting together my accessories and keep my thoughts on focus I lose the envy immediately I am re aligned with what is important, my life, my quirks, imperfections that make me , me. Which I think men love about us woman since we are already close to perfection with our soft skin soft hair its fresh to see us from there eyes that we arent perfect. Life would not be fun with perfection I think and I have to agree with lisaelanna. And we ALL know how minor the invites are yet when we see someones elses we wished we did ours like that, I know I have. But she is right that there are other pieces of the wedding we will never do again like being able to wear a veil and a beautiful white dress that screams for attention b/c its so amazing. And maybe having to practice on focusing on whats most important helps out with what we dont have. Because those people invites that we envy have missed something that we dont see but they do. Those invites might be great but they may be dealing with things also….. but this is such a great topic I think.Cheers from Ohio!!

Oh, I definitely have had my bouts with envy! In particular, I loved a friend’s wedding bouquet, and I seriously wanted to just copy it, but I feel so awkward about doing that, so I just found something else I liked (thought I still really love hers!). Wedding envy is so tough to conquer!

Ohhhhh letterpress! Every invite that comes thru our house gets swooned over, especially one from this April. I obsessed over letterpress and how I HAD to make it work with our budget. Then, my sweet little puppy ate it. Haha it put everything back into perspective :)

Joining the Gloss invitation fan club! I *still* find myself drooling over paper products long after the wedding is done! I have a feeling that’s going to continue once you get your design back from Kyndal. ;) Thanks for the shout-out, CS!

All things paper are the object of my affection. I love seeing bees’ invitations. Every one of them is so different and is a window into the personality of the bride and groom.

I have little graphic talent and even less software to work with but really want to make our invitation suites. They can be personalized so much and become a special momento from the day (at least, it will be for me). Convincing the Mr. that we must buy more software, yes!!

We are 381 days out and we have yet to decide what we are going to do - there are just so many fabulous, talented inspirations out there!! Ahh velum how I love thee, and wax seals and fonts, pocketfolds…I can feel the envy swelling up again :)

@ms_nickie: Now that you said it I think you absolutely right. I have never seen a bride and thought she should wear a different veil. I am sure you will absolutely stunning in yours!
@Miss Magic: My list of envies is getting longer too.
@Mrs. Tartlet: How could I not…. Your invites were gorgeous!@weddingstars2012: I have it already ;) coming soon!

I’m on this boat with you, Cukes! It’s the only area I ever get it in. But… My invites were only $1 each, and the ones I drool over are $5-15 each. So I guess that’s how that ship sailed.
