A Dress for a Giraffe

July 19th, 2011 @ 12:09 pm by Mrs. Giraffe

Just to clarify by “a Giraffe,” I mean me.

I realized I’ve never told you about my wedding dress/dress hunt. Why, you ask? Well, it’s not really a good story.

Really. It’s just not much of a story at all.

Here’s what happened.

Mr. Giraffe proposed, and that night I bought 3 wedding magazines. I flipped through one, saw an advertisement for a dress, and decided I wanted that one. A month later, I was home from college for Thanksgiving, I headed to store, tried on that dress, and was sure I wanted that one. We set a date 2.5 years in the future. Then 1.5 years later, I headed to the same store, tried on the same dress, and bought it.

That’s really it, the whole shebang. I didn’t cry, but I was happy and wanted that dress.

When I first went to try it on, another girl was in the dress I wanted, so to kill time, I tried about 5 other dresses. I wasn’t planning on even trying other dress, but by doing so, I confirmed I had what I wanted.

It may sound like a boring dress experience, but it was pretty much how I roll. I hate hate hate trying on clothes normally, and don’t really getting excited about big shopping ordeals so I pretty much did what I normally do when shopping. Find something, pick it out, buy it. I would’ve hated a big fussy dress ordeal, so I’m glad it worked out the way it did.

I don’t like fancy or frou-frou things, so I automatically knew what I was looking for..or, more like I knew what I wasn’t looking for: no lace, no beads, no bling, no train, nothing tight, nothing too fancy.

And I’m sure you’re all wondering what this dress is, eh?

But, let’s be honest, you want to see who really makes that dress look good?!

Anybody else have a super easy dress hunt? Really?

I love how simple and easy you made dress-shopping, Giraffe! You’re a girl after my own heart! Although my experience wasn’t as cut-and-dry as yours, I still made up my mind pretty fast, and I chose a dress I had picked out months before as “the one.”

Mine was pretty easy feat too. But now looking back I wish I had waited more and enjoyed browsing around for more dresses and playing dress up. I mean how many times in your life will you have an excuse to go wedding dress shopping?
BTW it looks great on you! Glad it was an easy and non-stressful task for you. ;)

I originally saw a photo of my dress online and knew I had to have it. Unfortunately there were no shops near me that had the dress in stock. And so, I tried on what felt like a million dresses, yet I could not get that photo out of my mind. My mom and I finally found a shop that had the dress. I went there, tried it on and said Yep. This is it.

Done. No tears, no hugs, no jumping up and down. Just relief that I had finally found my dress and didn’t have to try on any more…

Envious because mine included many shopping trips and tears (not on my part).

Here’s to drama and anxiety-free wedding dress shopping! I too only went to one place (Filene’s Running of the Brides) and bought my dress that day. I did try on about a dozen dresses total, but that was because I didn’t have a specific kind in mind, and had no idea what would be available. I narrowed it down to two dresses, checked out the photos my friend had snapped, and picked the one that had straps and made me look wicked skinny. Done! :)

It was the same story with me! FH proposed, bought my first wedding magazine the next day, the first ad in the magazine was for the dress I had to have….I didn’t really do much in the way of searching for where I could find the dress, but when my mom took me dress shopping the next month, there it was, right in the middle of the front window of the first salon! I tried on 7 other dresses of all different styles first, but only so I could have the experience of trying them on. It was always that dress. I can’t wait to really wear it!!

Love the dress!! My hunt was fairly easy since most local shops didn’t carry my size so I was limited to a handful of dresses in my size/budget.

Davids bridal kept calling and calling me so I finally said ok make me an appt. I wasnt planning on buying one that day…or at all actually. I tried on the 4 differnet styles, sheath, mermaid, a-line and then to just see how I would look in one, a ball gown…..next minute (actually about 30 minutes) I was still wearing the dress (ball gown) and calling my parents. 1 hour later, dress was mine!!! =)
