Hive, I have very exciting news to share: I purchased my wedding dress! Commence happy dance.

Exactly seven days after taking the plunge into wedding-dress shopping, I found and fell in love with my dress, took two days to sleep on the decision, and then confidently placed my order. I tried on a total of sixteen dresses, only four of which I considered for my own wedding. But when I tried on my dress, I instantly knew that it was the one I wanted to walk down the aisle in. I didn’t want to take it off or try on another dress, so I didn’t. I would have walked out of the store still wearing the dress if I could have.
Those of you who have been following my wedding-dress-shopping escapades are probably wondering which dress I decided to buy. And so, without further ado, I give you my wedding dress:

Yes, it’s Maeve. It’s always been Maeve. To be perfectly honest, this is the only dress that I could actually see myself wearing on my wedding day. After getting engaged, I would picture myself walking down the aisle and saying “I do” to Mr. Parasol, and I tried to imagine myself in several different wedding dresses. Although I still love many of these dresses (including Lindsey), Maeve was the only one that felt totally right, totally “me.” When I imagined wearing Maeve, something just clicked, and I knew that it was my wedding dress.
In reality, Maeve was just as stunning as I had imagined. As the consultant helped me into the dress, I couldn’t help smiling. Every aspect of the dress was breathtakingly beautiful, and it felt absolutely perfect on me. I also couldn’t believe how comfortable it was. And I thought corsets were supposed to be uncomfortable—in reality, they’re fantastic! I didn’t have to worry that the dress was going to fall down, and my waist was beautifully defined. Although the dress alone had me convinced, it wasn’t until the consultant put a gorgeous lace veil on my head that the look finally felt complete. This was what I wanted to look like on my wedding day. I could have gotten married right then and there.
After spending an hour in Maeve without so much as thinking of the other dresses—well, I thought of them, but only to conclude that they absolutely were not what I wanted to get married in—I had my measurements taken (!!). It all felt so real, even though I wasn’t buying that day. I honestly could have bought that day; I felt more than confident and totally excited about this dress. But I wanted to get outside of the emotional high in the bridal salon and really think through my decision. If I truly loved my dress and wanted it for my wedding, then waiting a few days would only make me more confident about buying it. And that’s exactly what happened. If anything, I felt even more excited about the dress two days later when I went back to POB to purchase it. Without a moment of hesitation, I put my order in and embraced the ecstasy of having found my wedding dress.
And buying my dress is exciting not only because it means that I now have a wedding dress (and this fact alone fills me with joy and relief!), but also because the dress was my first wedding-related purchase. I still haven’t bought save the dates, decorations, accessories, or jewelry, or put a deposit down on anything yet. Now that I’ve made my first wedding-related purchase (and some might say it’s the most important one!), I feel so excited, like this wedding is really going to happen.
And it really is going to happen. Mr. Parasol and I decided that even though eloping is so appealing, we really do want a wedding. We’re still going to try to keep it as intimate and personal as possible—nothing too big and fancy for us fun-loving Parasols! We’ve also set our date and will be mailing in our venue deposit later this week. I still can’t believe that we’re getting married this September; it feels so close, and I’m suddenly aware of how much there is to do.
But for now, I am basking in the joy and excitement of knowing that I am going to be getting married in the most beautiful dress ever created.
