Mrs. Seal's Picture
Mrs. Seal, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 25, Personal Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Sales and Support Specialist Engagement Date: December 12, 2009 Wedding Date: November 2011 Venue: Sts Peter and Paul Church/The Bently Reserve About Me: I am a goofy, wannabe crafty, well-intentioned Renaissance Woman (OK, perhaps "aimless wanderer" is a more aptly suited term for me, but hopefully you get the point)—basically I dabble in just about everything and pride myself in such. Without warning, I occasionally breakout into soulful improvised songs and interpretive dances and there's just no stopping me! As so many others before me, planning our wedding has unearthed a deep, intense passion for all things bridal and I secretly fear the day it will come to an end. Mr. Seal and I are quite the pair and life with him by my side is extremely rewarding—I am so thankful to have found him. Together we are planning a black-tie San Francisco affair for 250—light on the stuffiness and with lots of extra Seal-y flair.
About Mrs. Seal

come to you today with both good news and bad. I typically like to lead with bad news to leave off on a happy note, but that just won’t jive well with my story.

So, here goes.

Shoes it or Lose it: My Solemate, So Close...Yet So Far. : wedding san francisco shoes 1533455 1533455

After my unenthusiastic start to shoe shopping and my online shopping fail a couple of weeks ago, I finally decided it was time to physically head to the stores to touch, smell and taste (ok, maybe not so much smell, and definitely not taste) some footwear.

So Mama Seal and I decided to hit the stores this past Sunday in search of my wedding shoes. We probably could have planned this trip better - stores tend to close early on Sundays and we didn’t exactly compensate for that, but off we went nonetheless.

We headed to Macy’s in Union Square first and nothing jumped out at me. Nothing. Mama Seal is an employee of Macy’s and finding the perfect shoes there would have had an amazing monetary perk: 20% off. But for whatever reason, despite having a lovely selection, not a single pair of shoes spoke to me…so onward we went.

Our next stop was at Nordstrom a short walk away. I should mention that, at this point, the store was about 30 minutes short of closing, so we were in a bit of a rush. Anyhow, we made our way to what I like to call the “danger zone” (aka the “Salon Shoes” section - think Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo and Kate Spade). My eyes could hardly focus on a single pair and my heart started pounding - there were so many viable options. I eventually honed in on a set of particularly sparkly shoes just as Mama Seal picked them up and said, “What about these?!

What about those indeed! Mama Seal handed the champagne colored shoe off to me and something wonderful and unexpected happened - I fell in love. And I fell hard. They were a bit out of my initial shoe budget but my dress came in way under budget and I was therefore able to contently rationalize the difference.

I anxiously fidgeted on the couch as the helpful sales lady went to fetch my size. The minutes seemed like years and she eventually returned with some of the worst news a shoe salesperson can deliver, “We don’t have them in your size, but…” I was relieved to hear there was a qualification, “…I have them in your size in a different color and we can always order them in the right color if you want.”

OK. I could handle that.

After one more exchange for the next size up and a comfortable stroll around the department, I had concluded that these were indeed my wedding shoes. Well, not the exact pair I tried on - the currently intangible pair that needed to be ordered in the correct color and size.

The sweet gal seemed confident that tracking me down a pair would be no issue and I followed her to the check stand ready to swipe my card and give her my information.

And then, the terrible began.

Her computer system informed her there was only a single pair available in my size and it was at a Nordstrom that was actually closer to my home. Sounds like great news, right?

No. A call to the store revealed that the shoes were returns and looked visibly worn. And I was not prepared to spend such a large chunk of money on pre-worn shoes. I was defeated. Heartbroken. I even asked the lady, “Are those the only pair of shoes left in my size in the whole wide world?” and she said yes.

Obviously this was not true - but they were the only shoes left at Nordstrom so my hunt needed to continue elsewhere.

If you’ve made it this far without pictures you deserve a treat. A sparkly, amazing, fantastic treat that will make your heart skip a beat! (Ok, maybe that’s just me.) I present to you the elusive pair of Jimmy Choo shoes that need to be on my feet come November.

The pictures really do them no justice at all. They are so much more sparkly and striking in person and the ones I want are a slightly different shade (but I was a terrible blogger bee and forgot my camera). For some pictures that will better express their beauty, check out Mrs. Panther’s equally blingy shoes. She settled on a different (yet totally stunning) style, but the champagne Choos she first purchased are the same material and color as the ones I lust for and will give you an idea of how my dream shoes shimmer.

My favorite part? They’re the most gorgeous pair of short-heeled pumps I’ve ever seen and are the exact perfect height to ensure that I won’t tower over Mr. Seal.

Sigh.

Yet. They are not mine. At least not yet. By the time we left the store empty-handed, all of the nearby stores that carry Jimmy Choo were closed and I was forced to deal with an emptiness in the pit of my stomach. They need to be mine! They will be mine.

I hope to come back with better news next time, hive.

Did you hit any speed bumps on the road to your perfect wedding-day shoes? Did you eventually overcome these obstacles?

Oh no!! Those are gorgeous shoes, I hope you can find them! Did you check Jimmy Choo boutiques? Or call Choo headquarters? I’m in a similar boat, also at Nordy’s, where they sold out of my dream shoe but the stock keeps changing (I’m assuming online returns, etc.) so I’ve been e-stalking them (literally. The page is just always open in my browser and I keep refreshing to see what sizes/colors have come back!) so you could try that. Good luck!!

Eeeeeee, I hope you can find them! Do you have a Jimmy Choo store nearby? If they don’t have the shoes you want, they’ll have them shipped over from another store anywhere in the country, and you don’t even have to buy them! They ship them over just for you to try on!

Call every large department store- saks, neimun, etc. Sometimes they have better luck than the choo store itself.

I can’t believe Nordstrom doesn’t have them anywhere!!!! Too bad they didn’t have them in DE. .. no sales tax! You’ll just have to start calling stores and until you track one down. I’m glad you found your shoe though! They are super pretty! My grandma yelled at me because I don’t have my shoes yet. ..oops!

Love the heel size. I had no idea Choo made smaller heels, clearly I am not a shoe gal.

They have them on the Jimmy Choo website.. and underneath the “add to shopping bag” button, it says “email for availability”. It might be a good start to finding them in your size!

Thanks for all of the suggestions, ladies! I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to track them down, right now it’s a matter of finding the best deal! If I purchase through the site—the shipping is pretty crazy. BUT, since I so diligently followed @Mrs. Panther’s Choo saga, I did think to check the local Jimmy Choo store—I’ll give you all an update on that real soon ;)

Ah, yes THE Jimmy Choos that I wanted too! I admired them online and in the store every time I walked by. They were a bit out of my shoe budget so I turned my blue eyes the other direction. Tear, tear, sniff, snuff. I hope you find them because they really are a beautiful pair of shoes!

P.S. I still gaze at them…even though I have shoes.

Such a lust-worthy pair of heels. I’ll keep all of my fingers and toes crossed for you, Seal! If it comes down to it, you might be able to find a gently loved pair on eBay. :)

Oh did I ever have issues finding shoes! I could not find them in the color I am using ANYWHERE!! I looked in stores, online, and when I finally would find a pair I liked, they wouldn’t have them in my size (or any size around mine) but they would have them in every other size and color. I finally bought a pair I had found months ago and I realized they are perfect for me!

Nooo!!! Those shoes are gorgeous! I am so hoping for a happy ending for you.

PS - If they were visibly worn would Nordys have given you a discount?
