Mrs. Magic's Picture
Mrs. Magic, Chapel Hill, NC Age and Occupation: 30, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Researcher Engagement Date: December 1, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2011 Venue: Barn at Valhalla About Me: I’m a tall drink of water (5’10”!) and a Southern bride with an enormous appetite for Mexican food, good deals, anything French, and all things wedding! By day I am lucky enough to work with individuals with autism and their families. By night, I’m even luckier to be able to spend time hanging out with awesome friends, crafting, shopping, thinking about exercising, and kicking it with Mr. Magic and our two cats. I tend to have sudden, intense cravings that will not be denied (seafood enchiladas! new jeans!) and I’m prone to being a disorganized mess of anxiety and stress. After waiting (and waiting!) to get engaged, I am finally planning the colorful, fun, fabulously awesome Fall wedding of our dreams. In an effort to share the fun and craziness that is wedding planning, I’m gonna blog about it for y’all---the good, the bad, and the pretty!
About Mrs. Magic

I freaking hate surprises, y’all. Totally. I always feel left out that I’m not part of the planning process, and get really anxious about what might happen, and feel sorry for myself that I can’t get excited and anticipate the event that is coming, because I don’t know what to anticipate. Then I get anxious again.

Yes, I have a problem…it’s been well established now in these blog posts.

Anyways, my bachelorette weekend was drawing near and it was a complete surprise. I kept trying to break all my friends individually to learn more about what was happening but they kept their secrets, well…secret. Here is what I did know.

I knew my little sister, Mini Magic, was in charge of planning, along with my bridesmaids. Now I love Mini Magic, but she is only 19, and has not had a ton of experience in party planning. Partying, yes…party planning, not so much.

This made me anxious (completely needlessly so, since she and the other gals pulled the entire weekend off amazingly).

I knew we were staying at the Hotel Tarrymore in downtown Wilmington.

I knew I was supposed to wear a black dress Saturday night, and everyone else was also wearing black dresses too, for the lingerie shower / fancy dinner / going out portion of the festivities.

I really thought it was going to be a French themed shower, which seemed like a fun yet slightly obvious choice. Oh, I was sooooooooooo wrong. It was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than that. It was the best surprise ever!!!

Do you like surprises, or would you rather know all the facts up front?

I’m bad when it comes to being on the receiving end of surprises. I like to know everything and plan well in advance.

I say I like surprises - and I do - but I don’t necessarily like KNOWING there’s a surprise coming. I get antsy. I told MOH not to tell me about the shower or bachelorette party, just because I don’t want to start controlling those events too (heh). But now it’s kinda driving me crazy because she keeps talking about how I’m going to love my bachelorette party and she can’t wait and oh just wait until you’re bachelorette party. Lord!

I love surprises, but I am very hard to surprise. I have great intuition or can see into the future or something, cause I’ve only been truly surprised a few times in my entirety. I can’t wait to see what your girls had in store for you!

This post makes it seem like you have some kind of quota to fill, but didn’t really tell us anything.

As I’m reading this post, I just got a phone call from my MOH asking me weird questions like, “what size are you?”, “pink or teal?”, and instructions like, “Make sure you have your hair and nails done by 7/30.” Huh?? No one is telling me anything…but at least now I have a date LOL I have a love hate relationships with surprises as well…

Yeh, bad with surprises. I tend to get overwhelmed seeing that many people at once, feel obligated to be everywhere talking to everyone at once, and miss out on my own party… then everyone’s gone and I’m left wanting more. That’s how my shower went. Don’t get me wrong, it was lovely. Just don’t like missing out on the prep (mental mostly) and before-time bonding.
