Veil Me Up Scotty.

July 19th, 2011 @ 10:44 am by Mrs. Funnel Cake

Before I had a chance to think about what kind of veil would work with my theoretical wedding dress, SIL Funnel Cake had emailed me with a picture of both her and her mothers’ veils to borrow if I wanted.

I know they look like lumpy marshmallows here, but work with me!

Her mother’s veil was a beautiful vintage piece, but it looked like I would have trouble matching gowns to the discoloured headpiece. I asked Mama Funnel Cake to bring along my sister-in-law’s veil when she brought Sabelle to see if the colours would work together.

Of course I remember what SIL Funnel Cake’s veil looked like on her because I have wedding pictures! Gorgeous.

In the meantime, sister Funnel Cake also offered her veil to borrow, but it was currently being used in a friend’s wedding, so it wasn’t available for travel. It’s pretty similar to SIL Funnel Cake’s veil though.

Why buy a veil when you can get one for free? How did you get yours?

That’s awesome! I wore my mom’s veil from my parents wedding. Her’s was really yellowed, it was 31 years old after all! But a quick trip to the dry cleaners made it look brand spanking new. It also had a head piece similar to your SILs, but it was lace and not solid (if that makes sense). We also used my moms ring pillow as well.

The crazy thing is, my moms veil had lace edging on it, and it matched my dress to a T, even though I had mine custom made. It was crazy, people thought I had the veil made with the dress!! I loved wearing my moms veil :)

I like the way you think FC! I’m also borrowing a veil and I think it will be perfect!

The boutique where I bought my dress gave it to me for free because I loved it so much! It was a style they were discontinuining so I got to keep the sample. Cathedral veil for free…I think so! It was pure luck. :)

I’ll admit it, I bought mine. I didn’t know anyone who’d been married recently, and then I fell in love with a veil I found on Etsy!

My mom borrowed her veil, so I was bummed that one wasn’t available…but then my SIL offered hers! It’s ivory so I’ll have to go with an ivory dress to use it, but I think that’s my preference anyway!

My fi has 2 sisters. One got married 2 years ago and bought a veil. The one that got married 8months ago borrowed hers. And now, next month I’ll be borrowing it :) they bought it in dt la for $20. Its simple and GORGEOUS. best $20 they’ve spent I’d say :)

I’m still debating on the whole veil thing. I’m the first person to get married out of my friends and family for the most part, so there is no hand-me-down veil which is part of what is making this so hard! :)

@MrsSl82be: wow, I wouldn’t have thought of that! Sounds really neat! Now I sort of wish I thought about that… but it’s too late to check now. :P

@Ms October: wow, free Cathedral veil? Score!

@Miss Doily: don’t worry Doily there are plenty of AMAZING veils out there that I would love to drool over and obsess about. Cathedral veils, veil jackets, blushers, birdcages, poufy ones, drop veils… ahhh the list goes on. :)

I negotiated to have mine thrown in with the dress - cathedral veil, free alterations and $300 off the price of the dress, I was very impressed with myself!

Free veil? Sounds like a winner to me! Those bad boys are FREAKING. EXPENSIVE.

I probably should have looked into borrowing one but we’re all so excited about the dress that when the consultant had “the perfect veil to go with it” we couldn’t leave it there once she placed it on my head.
