Mrs. Parasol's Picture
Mrs. Parasol, San Ramon, California Age and Occupation: 25, Non-profit writer, editor, and blogger Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Law school student Engagement Date: December 19th, 2010 Wedding Date: September 2011 Venue: Bent Creek Winery (Livermore, California); Reception: Family Residence (San Ramon, California) About Me: I am a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, sunny days at the beach, and hiking in the woods and mountains. I also love good books and am fresh from completing my Master's degree in English and Comparative Literature in New York City. Living in NYC was an amazing experience, and while I'm glad to be back on the West Coast, I'm also thankful that my two years back East gave me an opportunity to explore new places, make new friends, and indulge my passion for Broadway shows. Oh, and I received a pretty awesome proposal from Mr. Parasol in Central Park. Above all else, Mr. Parasol is my biggest cheerleader and my best friend. But even though I'm thrilled to be marrying him, I wasn't always totally on board with this whole wedding thing and at first, I wanted to run off and elope. I've finally been convinced to throw the wedding I never thought I wanted, and so now I'm busy planning an intimate September wedding filled with DIY details. Along the way, I'm slowly learning to appreciate, perhaps even love the wedding planning process.
About Mrs. Parasol

So now that I have purchased my wedding dress, I have been starting to think about the other elements of my bridal look: makeup, jewelry, bouquet, the works. Each of these can (and probably will) be dealt with in their own posts, but for now I want to talk about one particular aspect that both excites and scares me: hair.

Like most brides, how I’m going to wear my hair on my wedding day is a very important decision. Since getting engaged, I have refused to cut my hair. Even though I prefer it shorter (about shoulder length), I’m afraid a cut will limit my options for my wedding-day hairstyle. I’m now at the point where I need to go in for a little trim, but I’m still a bit terrified they’ll take too much off.

Right now, I’m still undecided about what exactly I’m going for. I know it will be something curly or at least wavy because my hair is naturally pretty curly and holds curls really well.

Exhibit A, with my namesake / Personal photo

I’m pretty sure I want some sort of loose, curly updo. I do love a lot of the down wavy hairstyles I’ve seen, but I feel like wearing my hair down may be a little bit too casual for me. Though this style is almost enough to change my mind:

I love her soft curls and the braids. Her hair looks so romantic, and if she had a few small flowers sprinkled in her hair, her look may have been perfect for me.

Aside from all the glamour, this look is pretty close to what I’ve been imagining:

Again, I love that her curls look so soft and loose. I don’t like tight updos that are too polished, and I think that the “messiness” of this one is so pretty. And I love how it cascades down her neck and that the curls so beautifully frame her face.

As far as what I want the back to look like, I’m envisioning something along the lines of these two hairstyles:

Soft, wavy, a little disordered, and very feminine and romantic. Neither of these seems overwhelming, and I love the little decorative touches with the pins and the flower. They also look like they’d be very comfortable hairstyles and, as a woman, this is a very important piece of criteria. There’s nothing like wearing a painful hairstyle that causes headaches for hours on end.

Although I’m still undecided on exactly what I want, I’m excited to explore all of my bridal-hairstyle options and (eventually) have my hair trial. I’ve never had a professional hairstyle done, and I imagine that will be quite the treat in and of itself. I’m mainly just excited about finding the perfect look that makes me feel romantic, beautiful, and like myself on our special day.

What type of wedding hairstyles inspire you? Do you know how you’ll be wearing your hair on your wedding day?

I’ve been trying to describe to people what I have in my head as a hairdo for the wedding (I usually get a lot of blank stares), but you found it! These are exactly what I wanting. Yay!

I love the curly updos! I also love that first one but I’m scared my curly fine hair won’t hold up in the Florida sun!

I just fell in love with that first hairstyle! I’ve been thinking I’d like to do something half-up(so I can attach a veil, but still have hair down like the FI loves). Good luck with your trial!

That Taylor photo is a very popular inspiration image — both of my bridesmaids showed up with that same picture. Cue hysterical laughing, right?
