Favor Flavors, Part II

July 21st, 2011 @ 9:39 am by Mrs. Crepe

Last I left off talking about our favors, they were a bit unfinished. Although I loved how clean and neat they looked without tags, I thought some might need a few hints as to what the pink granules were.

I printed these on brown kraft paper that I had purchased from Envelopemall using a laser printer. Since they were pretty small and I was starting to feel the time pressure, I just cut them up freehand with scissors. I had a pair of scalloped scissors that I had gotten at an art store years ago to add a little bit of detail. (I found another pair here at a great price, although temporarily sold out at the moment.)

To string them up quickly, I used a big embroidery needle to push the vintage metallic thread I had on hand to use. I think using different colored embroidery floss would have been another cute alternative to add bits of your wedding colors into the favors as well.

Once they were all cut up, I packed them into a small box, ready to be tied onto the bottles during set up. Here’s a snapshot of the favor all ready to go!

I wanted to come up with some sort of salt related quote and be clever but towards the end of it all, the DIY section of my brain was tapped OUT. What witty or sweet thought would you have used (or did you use for your favors)?

Cutest. Favors. Ever. You are so good, Mrs. C! These totally didn’t need a clever tagline! Perfect, as is :)

They look amazing, so you don’t need it, but you could have done some thing “Because you’re the salt of the earth…” or something. Maybe thats too cheesy? It’s perfect as is.

I’m kind of corny, so I’d say, “Something salty for someone so sweet!”
Love the scalloping of the labels! I’ve never had Himalayan salt. :)

Awww, they’re so cute! I’m struggling on what to use as our favor tag. I just got some cheapo bags from Michael’s and plan to stuff them with cookies and tie them up with ribbon… But I want some sort of cute saying on them!

Cute! We have some pink Himalayan salt that my FMIL gave us, but I’ve been too afraid to use it. It looks like bath salts!! I’ll have to give it a try one of these days…

We’re diy-ing similarly by making homemade vanilla extract and bottling it and corking it. Question though, where did you get those bottles?? There is no shortage of bottles with screw caps but I can’t find any with the cork tops… Please PM me with a website if you have the time. I would greatly greatly appreciate it!

Yummy! Good thing you put the sign on there — someone could have mistaken them for Pop Rocks. ;)

Adorable and unique favor. It’s amazing what a simple pair of scissors can do to easily jazz up a piece of paper. Filing that tip away for future use…

For those who are considering this favor and DO want to incorporate some theme of love + salt, look up the Water and Salt fairytale. Short synopsis cut and pasted from my bff Wikipidia…

“A king with three beautiful daughters asks three of them how much they love their father.
The eldest says, “I love you as bright as the sunshine.”
The second daughter says, “I love you as wide as the ocean.”
The youngest says, “Oh father, I love you as meat loves salt.”
The father, not satisfied with the youngest daughter’s reply has her thrown out of the palace. But one of the palace servants, an old woman, decides to keep her.
Months later, the king announces a banquet to be held in the palace. Learning of this, the youngest daughter requests that the old woman sees to it that no salt is placed in the meat that will be served at the banquet. The old woman has this done, and when the meat was served, the guests complained greatly about the way it tasted. The young daughter then appeared before her father. She explained to him that as meat is tasteless without salt, so too is her life without her father’s love. From that day she was once again treated like a princess.”
