Make Me Up

July 21st, 2011 @ 12:46 pm by Mrs. Pony

This is my basic makeup look on a daily basis (yes, the crazy hair accompanies this look as do the tired eyes):

Powder, blush, eye shadow, and mascara.

I pretty much know how I want to look on our wedding day: I want flawless skin, the perfect amount of glow on my cheeks, and eyes that pop (in a good way, not a creepy, Lady Gaga-esque way). Basically, an amped of version of my everyday wear.

I know what I want, this will be so easy, right? Psh, what am I kidding, this wedding crap is never that easy.

My issue is that my the majority of my makeup arsenal consists of free samples and random purchases. I know nothing about coloring. Mr. Pony and I even disagree what color my eyes are (for the record, they’re green because I’m right).

Blue or green—solve a longtime dispute for the Ponies.

And then there’s skin and hair coloring. I’m, um, pale-ish with…undertones of some sort. Is that a foundation color? No, well, that’s why I don’t wear it. And my hair is, um, brown, but neither dark or light, so…medium brown? This is why I’ve never colored my hair, I don’t even know the color!

I know that a talented makeup artist should be able find the perfect combination of colors to compliment my coloring, but I’d rather have a few ideas to start from. And I fear what I would end up looking like if I show up empty handed.

I have no idea whether the shades in these pictures will translate onto my face well, but these ladies look gorgeous. And I want to look gorgeous for our wedding, so they are my best hope right now since my makeup knowledge never progressed past the ninth grade.

Is this enough inspiration for a makeup trial? Am I on the right path for my colors? How’d you find your wedding makeup inspiration? How do you want to look on your wedding day?

How about we just go with…..blue-ish green? :)

I used to work as a makeup artist, and blue OR green, I think the sample images you have are enough. Any nude/brown/golden shades will make your eyes pop, especially golds.

And I LOVE the blush on that creepy faced girl.

Mrs. Cowboy Boot is my makeup inspiration too! And my eyes change color depending on what I wear…so maybe yours are blue and green :)

You are so on the right path! Cowboy Boot made it into my inspiration folders, too. :) So, so lovely.

Love it! I’m so terrible at makeup. I pretty much wear the sheerest lipstick I can get away with without having color. Luckily I found Bare Escentuals for face makeup, which is pretty easy to match colorwise, because yeah, I have no clue what I am. A fall? A summer? Yellow and pink undertones? I’m not even sure what an undertone is. I just walk into Sephora and plead for help and hope I don’t get somebody who will sell me things that won’t work.

And, I love the makeup on that second photo - I think that’ll look stunning on you!

Sorry, I vote blue! And if I had to name your hair color it would be something along the lines of warm brown with honey kisses

Have you ever gone to a makeup party, like Mary Kay or Avon? Or even the makeup counter at a department store? They can help you find the right foundation color etc, and also give you some pointers on how to apply it so that your features will “pop”.

I was also just about to suggest Mary Kay. The consultants work with you (for free) and you get to try things without purchasing. The best part is that they TEACH you how to do it so that you’re not stuck with a bunch of stuff that you don’t know how to use.

That’s plenty for your MUA. You can always tweak as she applies too. I loved my wedding day make-up (obviously) and wished I could rock fake eyelashes all the time.

We’re in the blue camp… sorry! The blue comes out first; only after studying does the subtle green appear. Whatever color they are, they’re gorgeous. (I’m stuck with boring brown.)

I too love your inspirations :)

We live by one rule in the Teacup household - happy wife = happy life. Green it is! Plus, they’re yours so you get to decide.

Your eyes are BLEEN! Haha I have the same issue. I think my eyes are green, but some people say they’re blue, so I go with “bleen”

I hear you on the blue/green eye debate. After we’d been dating for a few months, Mr. Q told me that I had “the most beautiful green eyes he’d ever seen.” Which is all well and good, except that I’m pretty convinced my eyes are blue.
Your inspiration pics are great - I’m sure you’ll look lovely!

I love the “creepy picture” make-up! Also, I’d have to say your eyes are blue. Sorry Miss P! They’re gorgeous either way! =)
